Hello
@Tegel: Can you give me a stats bureaucrat at map-bmswp. Becaus at there no bureaucrat stats Thanks Arifys (talk) 12:43, 9 January 2016 (UTC)
- Hi. No, I can't do that. You have to announce it locally that you request bureaucrat flag and then after 7 days place a request at Steward requests/Permissions. But based on the small wiki and that there is only active administrator (you) I don't see a need for a local bureaucrat. If there is a need for new administrators you can place a request at Steward requests/Permissions and for bot flags there is Steward requests/Bot status. -- Tegel (Talk) 12:49, 9 January 2016 (UTC)
- Oh thanks, but I also need check user stat for verificate new user. How I get stat checkuser?
Thanks Arifys (talk) 12:58, 9 January 2016 (UTC)
- For being a Checkuser the wiki must be much larger than it is today, and you need to be at least two checkusers. For now if you have a check that needs to be done you place a request at Steward requests/Checkuser and a Steward will do the check for you. But why do you want to check new users? -- Tegel (Talk) 13:05, 9 January 2016 (UTC)
- Because there are many users who abuse their account.
Arifys (talk) 13:10, 9 January 2016 (UTC)
- Can't you just block the user? -- Tegel (Talk) 13:14, 9 January 2016 (UTC)
Yes, But I should verificate this user, So do not duplicate account. Arifys (talk) 13:21, 9 January 2016 (UTC)
- Then you place a request at Steward requests/Checkuser. -- Tegel (Talk) 13:22, 9 January 2016 (UTC)
- Thanks for inform Arifys (talk) 13:52, 9 January 2016 (UTC)
You just lost me 30 minutes of work
I was debugging something important on mediawiki.org, and you came along and deleted my work without even warning me. I was just on the verge of finding a bug in TemplateData that had to be tested in the Template: namespace, not in a sandbox. I even named my template to indicate I would delete it shortly. I can understand keeping things tidy (I run a wiki with 200,000+ pages) but you could have just messaged me instead of destroying my work. Now I have to recreate my test cases from memory. --Maiden taiwan (talk) 18:15, 13 January 2016 (UTC)
- Why don't you do tests on a test-wiki, such as https://test.wikipedia.org/ instead of an active wiki? Since you're not an admin on that wiki you can only blank the page after your done testing, and then we have blank pages to delete. -- Tegel (Talk) 18:23, 13 January 2016 (UTC)
- Thanks for the suggestion. I have never heard of test.wikipedia.org before. I will go see if the same behavior occurs on that server. Would you mind please pasting the last content from my two templates into a <pre> tag on my user talk page on mediawiki.org, so I don't have to start from scratch? Thanks. --Maiden taiwan (talk) 18:27, 13 January 2016 (UTC)
- Looks like test.wikipedia.org does not run VisualEditor, so I cannot test on it. Any other suggestions? --Maiden taiwan (talk) 18:34, 13 January 2016 (UTC)
About enwiki
Hello,
My IP block on ENWiki expired, but (just wondering) does the sock policy apply to good faith IP edits? I don't plan on making accounts, just making some edits such as an AN report for Messina and unblocked socks. I'm kinda scared as in I will get my IP globally blocked so be honest. 96.237.20.248 00:24, 20 January 2016 (UTC)
and I am trying following the standard offer and to be useful
- You might want to ask someone that is active on enwiki regarding their policy's. As a generic opinion I would say that if you have been blocked you are blocked. If you create a new account, or editing without an account, you circumvent your block and there is a big chance that you will be blocked again. -- Tegel (Talk) 00:45, 20 January 2016 (UTC)
- OK, I'll be cautious but bold. 96.237.20.248 12:17, 20 January 2016 (UTC)

Future IdeaLab Campaigns results
Last December, I invited you to help determine future ideaLab campaigns by submitting and voting on different possible topics. I'm happy to announce the results of your participation, and encourage you to review them and our next steps for implementing those campaigns this year. Thank you to everyone who volunteered time to participate and submit ideas.
With great thanks,

User:Ϣ at crwiki
The user was creating blank pages.
But the names of his pages were not random.
They were the names of places in northern Ontario and Quebec where Cree people live.
"Moose Factory" is the name of a town in Ontario.
There is the possibility that he actually speaks the language.
In Canada, Varlaam (talk) 05:09, 30 January 2016 (UTC)
- There is a user that goes from one small wiki to another and creating blank pages, or almost blank pages. I have tried to communicate with the user a number of time on a number of wikis, but without luck. Maybe you are more successful in communicating with this user. -- Tegel (Talk) 11:05, 30 January 2016 (UTC)
- Interesting.
- Does he normally create pages that are relevant to the project he is in?
- Is he saying, in effect, "I think this project should have these pages" and he is, more or less, correct when he says that?
- He is an intellectual? With no language skills?
- Thanks, Varlaam (talk) 17:51, 30 January 2016 (UTC)
- (I do miss Sweden. I was last there in 1987.)
- He has just renamed himself to Даниил Алексеев (Daniel Alekseyev).
- Varlaam (talk) 03:36, 2 February 2016 (UTC)
- Then it's probably not the same user that I was thinking about, just similar behavior on small wikis. The page name seems OK. If it would just contain something like "XX is a place in YY". Now it was just empty pages. -- Tegel (Talk) 14:53, 2 February 2016 (UTC)
Iliev2
I see you locked Iliev2 globally; is Iliev the same? Seems to have a productive past, but now seems to be making the same edits as 2 on the English Wikipedia. Only (talk) 12:55, 30 January 2016 (UTC)
- Based on the edits that I checked it seems like they are fighting each other. Iliev placed a request here: Steward_requests/Global#Global_lock_for_Iliev2 that Iliev2 marked as not done. So based on the information that I have seen right now I don't think that they are the same user. -- Tegel (Talk) 13:02, 30 January 2016 (UTC)
- I see now this tagging on En. like the report here for global lock. It was just weird to me that Iliev hasn't edited since November and happens to show up the same day and is now reverting IPs at the same pages where Iliev2 was editing. Only (talk) 13:10, 30 January 2016 (UTC)
- And I see now that he's a sysop at the Bulgarian Wiki so I do feel terrible having had my suspicions like that! Thanks for the input, Only (talk) 13:13, 30 January 2016 (UTC)
- Only, no problems with the suspicion. ;) In fact, proper suspicion is an integral part of our job (accounts get stolen, for example). I do apologize however for not making more clearly what the situation was, but I assumed (probably wrongly) that the case with ZOKIDIN/Никита-Родин-2002 and his/her confusion-through-impersonation attempts are well known (also, we've had similar cases in the past on bg:W, so it was a well-known bad guys' tactic for me). I would also like to thank Tegel and all the other people who have (and are) taking the brunt of such attacks! Cheers, — Luchesar V. ILIEV • T/C 15:53, 30 January 2016 (UTC)
Brutal Attacks on Macedonian values and Identity
Dear Tegel, please remove text https://sh.wikipedia.org/wiki/Korisnik:Orijentolog/Janevistan on SH.Wiki , because there User:Orjentolog deliberetly denominates Name of the Macedonian State, Name of the People of Macedonia and brutaly attacks Macedonian Nation! If possible remove all his rights and block this person on Wikipedia. Wiki was here blatantly misuse to brutaly offend rights and feelings of all Macedonians. Thank you 93.87.170.58 11:09, 9 February 2016 (UTC)
- Hi. Sh.wiki has local admins, so if you want this user blocked and pages deleted you have to bring it up locally at sh.wiki. -- Tegel (Talk) 13:10, 9 February 2016 (UTC)
- So the people who were engaged in brutal propaganda against all institutions in Macedonia, all values, identity, including the name of people and the name of language, making jokes about government, etc, one should go and ask them "please remove that nationalist propaganda content" !? Instead, Stewards should block and remove all rights to that Vandal revealing even private informations, and remove the administrator who protected that masterpiece. 93.87.170.58 15:37, 9 February 2016 (UTC)
- And now he added slanders in N*zi style references https://sh.wikipedia.org/wiki/Korisnik:Orijentolog/Janevistan . 93.87.170.58 17:11, 9 February 2016 (UTC)
Tegel, this IP has been banned on Serbo-Croatian Wikipedia for using multiply accounts and propagating himself as "famous diplomat, philosopher and musicologist" without any reliable sources (see details), so he was banned and his biographical article was deleted. Subsequently he started to vandalize various articles and user pages of all contributors involved in his case, and he even threaten to slaughter us. Alleged "chauvinistic" article is only a parody of his fictional World and it's part of Wikipedia humor category. In short, ignore him. --Orijentolog (talk) 18:14, 9 February 2016 (UTC)

Legiallity's global block
Did you add the rest of the global block templates to User:Legiallity? I was in the process of adding some of the templates to their user page other Wikimedia projects, but I'm only here to say thanks if you did. *smiles* XCONZ (talk) 19:48, 20 February 2016 (UTC)
- Adding a lock template on every wiki where a locked account exist is not something that we do. So don't spend any time on that. Was it your account that got locked? -- Tegel (Talk) 19:55, 20 February 2016 (UTC)
Inspire Campaign on content curation & review
I've recently launched an Inspire Campaign to encourage new ideas focusing on content review and curation in Wikimedia projects. Wikimedia volunteers collaboratively manage vast repositories of knowledge, and we’re looking for your ideas about how to manage that knowledge to make it more meaningful and accessible. We invite you to participate and submit ideas, so please get involved today! The campaign runs until March 28th.
All proposals are welcome - research projects, technical solutions, community organizing and outreach initiatives, or something completely new! Funding is available from the Wikimedia Foundation for projects that need financial support. Constructive feedback on ideas is welcome - your skills and experience can help bring someone else’s project to life. Join us at the Inspire Campaign to improve review and curation tasks so that we can make our content more meaningful and accessible! I JethroBT (WMF) 05:39, 29 February 2016 (UTC)

Confirmation discussions
Dear Tegel,
As you probably know, the confirmation discussions for Stewards have been closed. In order to determine the outcome of these discussions, you are invited to comment on Talk:Stewards/Confirm/2016 before scheduled closure of the confirmation section "one week after the appointment of the newly elected stewards" (Sunday 6th of March, 17:22 UTC), though the closing time might be extended at the ElectCom's discretion for an extra week if it is believed "further input is required before concluding". All stewards are welcome to comment, including those newly elected.
For those who ran for confirmation, consider revising comments regarding you, and replying to those where appropriate. Savhñ 08:01, 4 March 2016 (UTC)

Hi Tegel, I write because I tried to put my page ("Pobreza en Costa de Marfil") on the Spanish wikipedia but I could't. Through June, we’re organizing an Inspire Campaign to encourage and support new ideas focusing on addressing harassment toward Wikimedia contributors. The 2015 Harassment Survey has shown evidence that harassment in various forms - name calling, threats, discrimination, stalking, and impersonation, among others - is pervasive. Available methods and systems to deal with harassment are also considered to be ineffective. These behaviors are clearly harmful, and in addition, many individuals who experience or witness harassment participate less in Wikimedia projects or stop contributing entirely.
Proposals in any language are welcome during the campaign - research projects, technical solutions, community organizing and outreach initiatives, or something completely new! Funding is available from the Wikimedia Foundation for projects that need financial support. Constructive feedback on ideas is appreciated, and collaboration is encouraged - your skills and experience may help bring someone else’s project to life. Join us at the Inspire Campaign so that we can work together to develop ideas around this important and difficult issue. With thanks,

He may have Zazaish parents, but he is definitely not a native speaker. -- Mirzali (talk) 15:36, 5 June 2016 (UTC)
- Dear Tegel, me and Mirzali don't have personal problems with Erdem Aslancan. The one and only problem is that he doesn't master the Zaza-Language in grammar, orthography and lexis and his translations of all the directives and layers are wrong. This has nothing to do with the dialect he speaks. We know also his dialect well and have friends who have written a grammar book or master thesis about Southern Zazaki. We have proved and underlayed him this fact seceral times but he continuied with his manner. --asmên 18:34, 7 June 2016 (UTC)

Hello Tegel I wrote a new enter "Víctor Cámara" with the intention of opening a new section of young artists (30-50 years) in my area (Alicante -Spain-), as in Wikipedia are reflected only the deceased. This could be? Show me that I'm doing wrong — The preceding unsigned comment was added by Joseluismartinezmeseguer (talk)

cross-wiki … spam?
Hi Tegel, last night you blocked 5.100.249.110 xwiki-contribs • xwiki-date (alt) • ST • IP info • WHOIS • robtex • gblock • glist • abuselog • bullseye for 3 months globally and requested a speedy deletion at deWP. A few days ago, by chance I saw 2A03:B0C0:3:D0:0:0:1588:5001 xwiki-contribs • xwiki-date (alt) • ST • IP info • WHOIS • robtex • gblock • glist • abuselog • bullseye in deWP. Similar texts, but absolutely different IP adress. I saw other IPs with this texts, too (but can’t remember the exact ones). Since these IPs come from different countries, they are probably open proxies. Shouldn’t they blocked then for one year instead of 3 months?
Do you have any idea, what the purpose of this spam is? There isn’t a weblink, or the name of a website, nothing. Puzzled: --Schniggendiller (talk) 13:18, 29 August 2016 (UTC)
- Hi. I have blocked 10-15 IP-addresses per day the last couple of days now. A few pages contains links, but the pages is following the same pattern/format. You can spam the same content on multiple wikis without it has to be commercial spam. If I can confirm that it's an open proxy with a quick test I block them for longer time. In many cases I think that it's either a leaky web host or a user that is infected by a virus or other malware software, and then I block it for 1-3 month. My guess is that it's someone that is testing the software for a more normal spam attack that, in the worst case, will be on a bigger scale than we have seen now. -- Tegel (Talk) 13:33, 29 August 2016 (UTC)

I use a VPN for everything, and the IP ranges that my VPN uses are blocked. Is there any way to unblock my account without having to unblock the IP ranges? - You need to provide more information for us to be able to investigate the possible options. If you don't want to put the information here you can send an e-mail to stewardswikimediaorg containing the complete message that you get when you are trying to edit. Then we can have a look at the different options. -- Tegel (Talk) 06:09, 23 September 2016 (UTC)
i got a block in wiki.
The block was made by Tegel (meta.wikimedia.org). The reason given is Cross-wiki vandalism: This IP range has been abused for cross-wiki vandalism.
Actually i have no idea how to do Cross-wiki vandalism and what it is. Can we talk about it? And can you remove this block?— The preceding unsigned comment was added by 37.219.65.34 (talk)
- The block is because one user that uses the same ISP as you use is vandalizing on multiple wikis and your ISP doesn't act on our abuse reports. So the only solution then is to block the IP-addresses. I will not remove the block as of now. I would recommend you to create an account. Then you can edit from your current IP-address. You can create an account from an IP-address that is not blocked, or create the account here at Meta. Feel free to contact your ISP and ask them to act on our abuse report. -- Tegel (Talk) 09:50, 30 September 2016 (UTC)

About Vandalism on Telugu wiki
Hi, My name is Ravi, I am a sysop on Telugu Wikipedia. Recently one of our user was not happy with our community decisions. He is abusing and behaving rudelt with the users. I will give more details about that user. Is it possible to find out if a set of user names, and IP addresses are originated from a single source?--రవిచంద్ర (talk) 10:14, 4 October 2016 (UTC)
- Hi. Yes, through an IP-check we can see the IP-address that a user is connecting from and from that see if the user has created multiple user accounts. The IP-address is considered personal information and is covered by the Privacy policy and will not normally be revealed. You can place a request at Steward requests/Checkuser. -- Tegel (Talk) 10:32, 4 October 2016 (UTC)

No renaming between November 20 and November 27
Hi,
You’re getting this because you’re a steward or global renamer. The Community Tech team are working on cross-wiki watchlists. We need to add a couple of fields to the localuser table in centralauth database. In order to be able to do this, we’d need to run a script that will get in the way of renaming users. Our apologies – we realize this is getting in the way of your work.
We ask that you do not rename anyone between 00:00 November 20 (UTC) and 00:00 November 27 (UTC).
(UTC means that if you live in the Americas, it will be on the evening or afternoon of November 19 when the script starts running, and if you live in Oceania or eastern Asia, it can be closer midday on November 27 before we can be sure the script is no longer running.)
If there are any problems related to this, or you have any questions, please write me on my talk page. /Johan (WMF) (talk) via MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 19:39, 17 November 2016 (UTC)

Opted out of global sysops years ago
Hi, we are not a "small wiki" and have opted out years ago from "global sysops" at amwiki, we were incorrectly re-added to the list where global sysops are welcome. We have enough Amharic-fluent sysops to handle vandals. Regards, Til Eulenspiegel (talk) 17:26, 14 December 2016 (UTC)
- You only have three admins and that is a small wiki in my book. None of the admins have done any admin actions for 12 days, and then they come up as inactive, even if one admin has done normal edits earlier today. We only deal with vandalism that is ongoing where no admin is active at the moment. This was an IP-address that was blocked on other wikis and went cross-wiki. We are here to help each other. Is there a community consensus that you don't want outside help, or is that your opinion? -- Tegel (Talk) 17:44, 14 December 2016 (UTC)
- We specifically opted out with community consensus. We should not be on the list now. Til Eulenspiegel (talk) 18:14, 14 December 2016 (UTC)
- Could you link to where the request has been placed here on Meta? -- Tegel (Talk) 18:23, 14 December 2016 (UTC)
- https://meta.wikimedia.org/?oldid=2183101#Opt-out_for_Amharic_Wikipedia was the discussion. I've added the wiki back to the wikiset. It is my understanding that once a wiki opts-out, it should not be re-added even if it goes below 10 sysops. However this does not preclude steward activities on the wiki when required. —MarcoAurelio 18:56, 14 December 2016 (UTC)
