Voting
[edit]The voting method Eloquence wants to use is not the same as a Borda count. It is even worse. { MB | マイカル } 21:44, 27 Aug 2003 (UTC)
- It's not exactly the same, but you can't get much worse than Borda count. At least's "Eloquence's voting" doesn't encourage strategical nominations. Taw 22:50, 27 Aug 2003 (UTC)
Error
[edit]I am getting an error from wikipedia right now:
- ERROR
- The requested URL could not be retrieved
- While trying to retrieve the URL: http://www.wikipedia.org/w/wiki.phtml?
- The following error was encountered:
- Zero Sized Reply
- iPrism did not receive any data for this request.
- 192.168.65.230
- Generated 29/Aug/2003:13:10:21 -0400 by 192.168.65.230 (iPrism)
I suspect that this was caused by that following query I made: http://www.wikipedia.org/w/wiki.phtml?title=Special:Recentchanges&days=50&limit=50000
I think that maybe the huge numbers I used for days and limit caused wikipedia to crash. I can't be sure if anyone else can load wikipedia right now. However, I know that I can't. I didn't have the problem until I made the above Special:Recentchanges query. There was a long loading time out on all the wikipedia pages I was loading, and then that error message showed up on all of them, and now nothing is loading. Is anyone else having this problem? { MB | マイカル } 17:25, 29 Aug 2003 (UTC)
Map integration
[edit]While you're working on the map integration, do you think you could also hack in auto-scaling for images, so that I could say [[Image:foo.jpg width=400]] and ImageMagick or libgd would be used to render a copy of the image at that resolution, placed perhaps in a subdir ("/400x200" etc.) of the image directory where the original copy is stored?—Eloquence 23:55, 2 Sep 2003 (UTC)
- Yeah, it seems like a good idea. Taw 02:41, 4 Sep 2003 (UTC)
I just thought I'd let you know that the map stuff you are doing is really fantastic. Kudos to you! -- The Anome 19:28, 3 Sep 2003 (UTC)
Absolutely...I mentioned this on your main WP talk page, but you mustn't go there too often, so I'll copy it here:
- Just thought I'd drop a line to say that the work you're doing on AG mapping looks great! I don't know a lot about cartography in general, but if this mapping thing happens, it would be a fantastic service to many people. Maybe it could be the start of a WikiMap thing, where it can become the main repository of maps for everything from maps of the known universe down to maps of the street and suburb I live in. Great stuff and huge potential! Neolux 19:06, 31 Aug 2003 (UTC)
Keep up the fantastic work! Neolux 15:16, 7 Sep 2003 (UTC)
You are currently my only hope to ever succeed to really do the ecoatlas project. The other option is to obtain full copyright rights over National Geographic maps. So yeah, great potential. Anthere
check user
[edit]little problem :-) I did not know the checkuser-l had been set up yet, and worse, I could not find it in the list of Wikimedia ml... so afaik, it is a list currently restricted to english arbcom and you, maybe one and two others ? And I am pretty sure new checkusers are not aware of this list... since we did not tell them about it. I looked in related pages and found nothing at all. See within yourself what this list is meant to; I think the french check users (4) plan to manage by irc. If it is meant for all checkusers, then you should advertise it (probably add it to the policy page, as well as to request for permission so that new checkusers are aware of it). Striking your vote
[edit]Hello Taw,
Thank you for your interest in the Wikimedia Board Election. The Election Committee regretfully informs you that your previous vote was received in error and will be struck according to the election rules, described below.
The Election Committee regretfully announces today that we will have to remove approximately 220 votes submitted. These votes were cast by people not entitled to vote. The election rules state that users must have at least 400 edits by June 1 to be eligible to vote.
The voter lists we sent to Software in the Public Interest (our third party election partner) initially were wrong, and one of your account was eventually included to our initial list. There was a bug in the edit counting program and the sent list contained every account with 201 or more edits, instead of 400 or more edits. So large numbers of people were qualified according to the software who shouldn't be. The bug has been fixed and an amended list was sent to SPI already.
Our first (and wrong) list contains 80,458 accounts as qualified. The proper number of qualified voters in the SPI list is now 52,750. As of the morning of July 4 (UTC), there are 2,773 unique voters and 220 people, including you, have voted who are not qualified based upon this identified error.
In accordance with voting regulations the Election Committee will strike those approximately 220 votes due to lack of voting eligibility. The list of struck votes is available at https://wikimedia.spi-inc.org/index.php/List_of_struck_votes.
We are aware of the possibility that some of the people affected may have other accounts with more than 400 edits, and hence may still be eligible to vote. We encourage you to consider voting again from another account, if you have one. If you have no other account eligible to vote, we hope you reach the criteria in the next Election, and expect to see your participation to the future Elections.
Your comments, questions or messages to the Committee would be appreciated, you can make them at m:Talk:Board elections/2007/en. Other language versions are available at m:Translation requests/Eleccom mail, 07-05.
Again, we would like to deeply apologize for any inconvenience.
Sincerely,
Kizu Naoko
