[edit]Hello, Ameisenigel. Welcome to the Wikimedia Meta-Wiki! This website is for coordinating and discussing all Wikimedia projects. You may find it useful to read our policy page. The 2021 Community Wishlist Survey is now open! This survey is the process where communities decide what the Community Tech team should work on over the next year. We encourage everyone to submit proposals until the deadline on 30 November, or comment on other proposals to help make them better. The communities will vote on the proposals between 8 December and 21 December.
The Community Tech team is focused on tools for experienced Wikimedia editors. You can write proposals in any language, and we will translate them for you. Thank you, and we look forward to seeing your proposals!
18:25, 20 November 2020 (UTC)
We invite all registered users to vote on the 2021 Community Wishlist Survey. You can vote from now until 21 December for as many different wishes as you want.
In the Survey, wishes for new and improved tools for experienced editors are collected. After the voting, we will do our best to grant your wishes. We will start with the most popular ones.
We, the Community Tech, are one of the Wikimedia Foundation teams. We create and improve editing and wiki moderation tools. What we work on is decided based on results of the Community Wishlist Survey. Once a year, you can submit wishes. After two weeks, you can vote on the ones that you're most interested in. Next, we choose wishes from the survey to work on. Some of the wishes may be granted by volunteer developers or other teams.
We are waiting for your votes. Thank you!

Is it possible for unregistered editor?
If not, then how, on your POV, for me to do it (adding some TUs there's obviously needed) if not writing straight to text for you (or other administrator) to do as you've exactly done next?85.238.102.83 00:18, 7 February 2021 (UTC)
- Hi. Every time when someone edits a translatable page, a translation administrator is needed to mark the page for translation again. This is done at Special:PageTranslation. If you mark a page for translation and there are new translation units, the Translate-Extension places translation units automatically and it looks like the TA has made an normal edit with the comment Marked this version for translation. If you want to have a page marked for translation, you can contact me or one of my colleagues or write at Meta talk:Babylon. Best regards --Ameisenigel (talk) 07:47, 7 February 2021 (UTC)
- Hello. Thank you. I got it (about where to ask page to be marked for translation), but still don't get how to add (for me) to the page needed translation units? Can I do it on the same pages you wrote? I mean... How to make you (or your colleagues) understand how do "I see it" (meaning placing new translation units to the text)? Your remark (topic) that's why I ask you for another way to do it but still confused about how to. Any example or way I chose (writing TUs straight to the text for you or your colleagues see it and repeat it but as real TUs through the translation extension already) is the best known way?85.238.102.83 14:17, 7 February 2021 (UTC)
- The translation units are generated automatically everywhere, where a new paragraph starts. If it is necessary to split units, e.g. if lists are getting to long, you can split them with </translate> (end of translatable text) and <translate> (beginning of translatable text). Otherwise it is not necessary to place units, because this happens automatically. --Ameisenigel (talk) 16:30, 7 February 2021 (UTC)
- Like that? Will TUs appear there automatically or I missed something?85.238.102.83 17:44, 9 February 2021 (UTC)
- Yes, everything is correct. --Ameisenigel (talk) 17:48, 9 February 2021 (UTC)

The Inuka Team: We need your help.
[edit]Hello Ameisenigel,
Thank you so much for all the work you do in translating pages marked for translation. It is great to have you doing so much work to ensure that knowledge is available in other languages. Once again, we will need your help in translating the pages below to the language you know:
Please, don't feel pressured to finish all the translation; it is okay to translate some of the pages.

Help
[edit]Could you help me with two things? 1) I would like to propose that there are not two different translations, one into Portuguese and one into Brazilian Portuguese, but just Portuguese, as we do on the pt.wiki. That's because there are many not-translated pages, and to contemplate the two variants would require double work, where do I propose this? 2) I categorized some translated pages, could you check if I did it correctly or if I shouldn't have done it? For example: Translations:Universal Code of Conduct/2021 consultations/Discussion/34/pt-br. --Felipe da Fonseca (talk) 08:42, 9 May 2021 (UTC)
- Let me first answer 2) In this case it would be better to make Category:Universal Code of Conduct translatable. Since the page itself is categorized with [[Category:Universal Code of Conduct{{#translation:}}]] it would be automatically added to the sufficient subcategory. If you add the category to a translation manually this translation unit would be added to the category as well, what should not happen. Regarding 1) I would propose this on Meta talk:Babylon. Afterwords you can request the change on Phabricator. --Ameisenigel (talk) 08:55, 9 May 2021 (UTC)
- Thank you. About "2": I should uncategorize these "translation unit pages" that I categorized then, correct?--Felipe da Fonseca (talk) 08:58, 9 May 2021 (UTC)
- Yes --Ameisenigel (talk) 09:01, 9 May 2021 (UTC)
- Thank you. About "2": I should uncategorize these "translation unit pages" that I categorized then, correct?--Felipe da Fonseca (talk) 08:58, 9 May 2021 (UTC)
A Community Wishlist Survey update waiting for translation
[edit]Hello! Would you be able to translate the newest update about the Community Wishlist Survey 2022? In short: instead of November 2021, the CWS will happen in January 2022. We would also like to make other improvements. We can't do that without having the volunteers' opinions. This is what we ask for in the message.
After the weekend, I'll send this to all Village Pumps, Cafes, Forums, etc. Our team would like as many people as possible not to ignore this message. Let's remove the language barrier.
Thank you! SGrabarczuk (WMF) 01:29, 4 September 2021 (UTC)

Request for translation
[edit]Hello, I have a message for the German-speaking Wikimedians. It's quite long, so I'll understand if you aren't able to translate it quickly. It's critically important, though, so I feel I must ask you to do me a favor 🙏
Could you spend some time on that?
I've asked two other volunteers already. I hope you would be able to get this done collectively. Thank you! SGrabarczuk (WMF) (talk) 20:05, 20 August 2022 (UTC)

Wikisporadic Newsletter: September 2022
[edit]Wikisporadic, an Occasional Newsletter for our Germinating Community.
- Oral knowledge We held a session on oral knowledge and Wikispore as part of Options Space at Wikimedia Summit 2022 in Berlin, looking at options with several African affiliates to link out to cultural topics from Wikipedia(s). Some African communities are already doing oral knowledge documentation like the Nigerian community working on oral history as well as the growing Mozambican community working on oral history documentation in Makhuwa language. This is a way to provide more sources as well as digitize some oral parts of their history.
- Wikidata integration There is a plan to install the new UnlinkedWikibase extension, advancing the vision of Wikisprout and full Wikidata integration such as use in infoboxes.
- Movement strategy Using the Cargo and related extensions on Wikispore, work is underway to create a demo of Movement Strategy activities, adapting Baserow data from Wikimedia Summit.
- Halloween event As a Wikidata 10th Birthday event, there is hope to collaborate at the end of October with Wiki Cemeteries User Group on Grave Spore (see discussion), for maps and in-depth coverage of individual graves.

Unterschriften in allen Sprachversionen
--Ameisenigel (talk) 16:06, 10 August 2023 (UTC)

[edit]Hello! I removed the translation units because i'm revamping the whole page and i was going to restore all the translation tags properly after i'm done. I changed the page language from english to spanish as origin, but couldn't figure out how delete the old translated pages, is that something you can do? Thanks! Mauricio V. Genta (talk) 14:21, 15 January 2024 (UTC)
- If you want to change the source language you also need to put the text in Spanish on that page. You can still find the old translations through the page history of Wikimedia Argentina/es. There is typically no need to delete pages, but since I am not an admin here I would not be able to do this anyway. --Ameisenigel (talk) 18:07, 15 January 2024 (UTC)
- Oh, i thought you were admin, my bad. I'll change all the text (or almost all) and mark for translation again after. Thanks! Mauricio V. Genta (talk) 20:50, 15 January 2024 (UTC)

- Done. How you design your pages is totally up to you. For translation purposes it is best if content remains more or less stable, but this is not possible in all cases. --Ameisenigel (talk) 11:55, 16 January 2024 (UTC)
