Creating local user group
[edit]Hello, Sarri.greek. I remember that earlier in elwikt you quickly received my deletion request. It's been a long time no see. How have you been?
I read the message you left in SRM. Lua is not something I can help, but I understand that you want to create a group of local rollbackers. Creating a new user group is possible with local consensus. I think I can help that part if you want it. --Sotiale (talk) 06:23, 31 May 2020 (UTC)
- O!! Very, very kind of you Sotiale to notice, to volunteer. Thank you, I'm fine, and staying safe 'at home'! Hope you are well too.
- _rollbackers: Of course, we want it. We have two contributors waiting since February, there is no one who disagrees, but no one knows how to do it.
- My point, in general, is that some kind of uniform basic, repetitive, standard things should be available for all wikis 'from above'. The small ones are doomed: only by mere chance could we have someone who knows a bit of Lua or a bit of Python for bots. For example, at el.wiktionary, in the past, we had excellent contributors, they were active for many years, but now they are gone. Some tasks are left half-done. I had to read about wikitext and Lua at wikiversity, at wikipedias, at wikitonaries, -at my age!-. Sooo difficult. Sarri.greek (talk) 06:45, 31 May 2020 (UTC)
- I'm glad you're safe. Korea is less affected by the corona crisis than I thought, so I am doing well in my daily life. I'm an admin on medium-large wikis, but at the same time I'm also an admin on small wikis, so I understand the challenges you face from multiple perspectives. It is sad that my ability is not so great :( Anyway, creating a group of local rollbackers is not difficult. If there is a consensus between 7 and 14 days in a community space such as village pump, the group can be established.
- First, you need to discuss about permissions your community wants to give rollbackers. For example, enwikt rollbackers have only
rollback
permission. Your community can add other permissions that are definitely needed locally. Once it's set up, open vote between 7 and 14 days to show support and oppose for developers to know. --Sotiale (talk) 07:10, 31 May 2020 (UTC)- Thank you Sotiale, so much. I' ll do as you say, and add some translated notes in English at the vote. Sarri.greek (talk) 07:39, 31 May 2020 (UTC)
- Good. Let me know when the process is all over. And if you have any questions, please contact me. --Sotiale (talk) 07:51, 31 May 2020 (UTC)

Currently, the changed site settings are in the code review phase. After passing this step, the settings will be applied to the site :) (However, it is unknown who will press the button and when!) --Sotiale (talk) 10:23, 20 June 2020 (UTC)

[edit]Hi! I'm a Global sysop. Sorry for the confusion but I am not hacked. And I was deleting pages marked for speedy deletion. Operator873talkconnect 23:52, 15 September 2020 (UTC)
@Ah3kal: is it true?? Do you know this username? It came 3 o'clock in the morning, and started deleting pages we need to check. We are not familiar with this name at all. Never seen it before in Recent Changes like we do, other names Sarri.greek (talk) 23:58, 15 September 2020 (UTC)
Also: terrifying userpage!!! Sarri.greek (talk) 00:00, 16 September 2020 (UTC)
- You can check my Special:CentralAuth/Operator873 if you like. I'm not hacker. You can speak with me directly #wikimedia-gsconnect if you like... Operator873talkconnect 00:03, 16 September 2020 (UTC)
- I can verify that Operator873 is not hacked and is a legitimate global sysop. As he is a global sysop, you might not have seen him before as he patrols all of the small wikis. You can see his name listed here and his successful request archived here. Certainly not a hacker. Thanks, --IWI (talk) 00:09, 16 September 2020 (UTC)
- Hi there Sarri.greek! As a steward (verify at Stewards#List_of_current_stewards, or, alternatively, at my CentralAuth), elected on this year's election, I am able to confirm that Operator is not a hacker, and is indeed a Global Sysop (verify at Global_sysops#Users_with_global_sysop_access, or, alternatively, at his CentralAuth). If you have any questions, please let me know. Best regards, —Thanks for the fish! talk•contribs 00:12, 16 September 2020 (UTC)

- hhhh what a relief. Thank you all IWI, Tks4Fish, and sorry to have blocked this Operator. Thanks and sorry for the inconvinience, but I was really frightened. Sarri.greek (talk) 00:17, 16 September 2020 (UTC)
- All good :) --IWI (talk) 00:19, 16 September 2020 (UTC)

My apologies for unintended annoyances etc.
[edit]I am sorry, but I am unsure how my edit-request at el.wikt yesterday contained "inexact info and utter nonsense". Can you please elaborate? Because I know my message being in English didn't make it "utter nonsense".
And BTW, I really don't think soliciting proxy edits on my behalf should be counted as block evasion in my case, especially since I have solicited those proxy edits to keep myself from using IPs to evade my en.wikt block.
Anywayyy, I had absolutely no intention of annoying any el.wikt admins, let alone you, yesterday.
I simply intended to post that edit-request on the talkpage of an editor with enough expertise in the languages in question, and I knew Saltmarsh had expertise in English and Ancient & Modern Greek.
I do know that two of the en.wikt entries I mentioned, "όρισμα" and "orismology", were (and still are) missing vital etymology sections. (My apologies if "όρισμα" is not actually related to "ορισμός". It just seemed likely given the definition and spelling.)
What am I supposed to do to request a proper unblock at en.wikt (or el.wikt) anyway?? See, I don't want to have to solicit any proxy edits anymore. Shāntián Tàiláng (talk) 20:14, 28 February 2024 (UTC)
- M. @Shāntián Tàiláng:, I have blocked you for the reasons stated by en.wiktionary admins for pinging or messaging editors, or administrators all the time. At el.wiktionary, you have continued this practice by posting a message to an en.wikt administrator at his el.wiktionary Talk.page,
- _requesting etymologies, which you could have done by adding wikt:en:Template:rfe (Request for etymology) at any lemma
- _requesting something about wikt:en:πρίσμα (prism) and its supposed incomprehensible relation to woodworking, a completely irrelevant comment on wikt:en:tenpenny nail and so on.
- What you could do now:
- _1. You may appeal as per wikt:en:Wiktionary:Blocking_policy#Appeals_for_unblocking (if not able with your current username, then, as an IP)
- _2. Or, you may open a new account to start afresh as per w:en:Wikipedia:Sockpuppetry#Legitimate_uses (see 'clean start' "A clean start requires that you no longer use your old account(s), which should note on their user pages that they are inactive") You should add at your new User.page
User:xxxx - Socks. Previous accounts * {{user|Shāntián Tàiláng}} 2018-2023, blocked
- and on your previous account: wikt:en:User:Shāntián Tàiláng you should redirect:
{{softredirect|User:yournewUsername}}
- If you concentrate on the language you know best, and stop pinging and messaging editors for other languages, you will do fine with a new Username. Thank you. Sarri.greek (talk) 00:18, 29 February 2024 (UTC)
- I appreciate your advice, but I just want you to know a few things:
- 1. I could not have added "wikt:en:Template:rfe (Request for etymology) at any lemma" because I am still blocked from en.wikt, and that includes lemmas
- 2. the reason I mentiond "wikt:en:πρίσμα (prism) and its supposed incomprehensible relation to woodworking" was because one meaning of wikt:en:πρίσμα (prism) in Ancient Greek is "sawdust". (See, wikt:en:sawdust is in wikt:en:Category:en:Timber industry, and I personally think wikt:en:Module:category tree/topic cat/data/Society should be modified so that "Timber industry" is a subcat of "Woodworking", but that is another story.)
- 3. Before I posted that message on el.wiki, I was not aware of Saltmarsh (talk · contribs) being an admin either on en.wiki or el.wiki. My apologies if I didn't make that clear in my earlier message to you.
- 4. If I use an IP address's talk page to request an unblock for my Shāntián Tàiláng account, won't that be seen as simply me "trying to talk my way out of my block"???
Because that is what Chuck Entz (talk · contribs) said of this and this other message of mine and also mentioned to me here in Sept 2022 (and in case you're wondering, I have no desire to create any more sock-accounts, ever). I also asked him about it once on his en.WP talkpage (several months before I got blocked there) and once on his Commons talkpage; he did not respond to either. - But back to my point: should I post a "logged-out" unblock-request on en.wikt? That seems like poor policy and/or judgment to me. Shāntián Tàiláng (talk) 17:15, 4 March 2024 (UTC)
- I see that you thanked me for that last message I wrote to you. But why keep me indefinitely blocked from Greek Wiktionary? I don't think it really makes sense, given what I clarified.
- Besides, I find it very worrying that you haven't yet answered my last question about English Wiktionary. Are you too busy or something?? Shāntián Tàiláng (talk) 19:26, 12 March 2024 (UTC)
- @Shāntián Tàiláng:, sorry but when someone has socks (multiple accounts) and is blocked in one project, usually they are blocked also on other projects. I apologise for writing "utter nonsense", I did not mean that the information you gave in the request was not true. What was irrelevant was the asking. Such questions should not be asked of editors: one goes to the pages and adds the info or makes the requests. I hope your next username does not have diacritics, because not all of us can type them. Sarri.greek (talk) 22:55, 12 March 2024 (UTC)
- As I said before: I have NO plans to create any other accounts or change my username. As for your first sentence (about blocking on other projects), I believe you may be thinking of global blocks or bans, and my behavior does not warrant either of those, given my productive contributions on Commons and Wikisource. And how am I supposed to "go to the pages and add the info or requests" if I am blocked from editing any page whatsoever on English Wiktionary??! Shāntián Tàiláng (talk) 13:49, 25 March 2024 (UTC)

Maybe you can now unblock me from Greek Wiktionary?
[edit]Hey there-- now that it's been several months since you blocked me from Greek Wiktionary, how about unblocking me? I promise I won't annoy ANY editors on their talk pages ever again.
You see, I simply wish to edit el:wikt:Τραγγάλου so that it links to el:wikt:Τράγγαλος, which seems to me to be its masculine equivalent. (Same with el:wikt:Τραμπούρας and its feminine equivalent el:wikt:Τραμπούρα--I find it unacceptable that Greek Wiktionary does not have maintenance categories for "Greek masculine surnames missing feminine equivalents" and vice versa.) Shāntián Tàiláng (talk) 18:09, 26 August 2024 (UTC)
- Just to let you know, I'm not asking you to make those edits yourself, or even to confirm their validity. They are simply things that I have noticed. Is that OK with you?
And please don't mute me or ignore me or whatever, I welcome your feedback and eagerly await your response(s). Shāntián Tàiláng (talk) 14:45, 27 August 2024 (UTC)
