What future IdeaLab campaigns would you like to see?

[edit]

Hi there,

I’m Jethro, and I’m seeking your help in deciding topics for new IdeaLab campaigns that could be run starting next year. These campaigns aim to bring in proposals and solutions from communities that address a need or problem in Wikimedia projects. I'm interested in hearing your preferences and ideas for campaign topics!

Here’s how to participate:

Take care,

I JethroBT (WMF), Community Resources, Wikimedia Foundation. 03:33, 5 December 2015 (UTC)Reply

Future IdeaLab Campaigns results

Greetings! The Individual Engagement Grants (IEG) program is accepting proposals until April 12th to fund new tools, research, outreach efforts, and other experiments that enhance the work of Wikimedia volunteers. Whether you need a small or large amount of funds (up to $30,000 USD), IEGs can support you and your team’s project development time in addition to project expenses such as materials, travel, and rental space.

With thanks, I JethroBT (WMF), Community Resources 15:57, 31 March 2016 (UTC)Reply

No Esino

[edit]

I am sorry I work in China :D I'll come back to visit my parents in August. My name will be on a poster about image tools, although I was asked to do it, it didn't really though too much about the opportunity when it was arriving.

To be honest I try to avoid community gatherings unless there is an introduction to newbies, where help is always needed and important. Don't get me wrong but I have this very strong feeling that many issues come from the fact that people know them too much. I know it would be good for my image but I think that we have to find ways to cooperate on-wiki as much as possible. One of my interest is in fact to improve the network of users because a real modern wiki environment should rely on more advanced on-wiki networking tool. I receive a lot of requests also by mail very week, this a very critical issue.

Just to give an idea this is something I would like to do on a least one aspect. For a country like Greece that needs to establish a chapter this might be very useful. So far I do this things "manually" and I spend a huge amount of my time connecting users to users and users to flags, communities to talk and policy pages, etc and I barely have time to edit in ns0.

Plus, sometimes for having said certain things in public I was accused to be plotting or playing games, which is nonsense because I am a transparent person, so I touched with my own hands how too close and rigid relationship schemes can induce distortion of perception. so I really try to reduce off-wiki contact related to wiki to a minimum and be objective, which does not mean that if the wiki gathering is close to me I don't go, I just mean that I try to feel it "as a newbie".

But if you want me to inform about something, just give me a general field of interest and I will try to do it. Also if you want to introduce meta-discussions at village pump with a better Greek, I can tell you with great pleasure. I limit myself to Italian, German, French, English and Spanish and it is already a lot of stuff...--Alexmar983 (talk) 03:18, 11 May 2016 (UTC)Reply

I was thinking about the user group, which may become a chapter one day (let's be optimistic). BTW, these processes happen all the time, if what you've just described is 75% true you are not original. Some steps are different of course, perception may vary, but they are common. Human beings cannot be changed just because of a grater goal, it is naive to think that. My mother was a teacher, you know dealing with young generations that you need hope but not blindness. Medium-to-small communities may show these processes of "layered structure" or "constant feud" or "unbalanced networking". The worse thing that can happen is to deny it, to think that the solution of a problem is just to invest a big amount of energy in claiming that it is not there, that the problem are the single people and not the system, or whatever. Some de facto social or operative scaffolding can be a limit to a growth of certain area, and that's a collective choice that a community has to face.
You know one problem is what I call "collective stupidity" (or "collective intelligence" if you look the other way around), the idea that a certain point you may think that not circulating a certain information is good. Whatever it is, if it is from other platforms or from a previous discussion where someone said the opposite, or a link that show that your long-time friend is not-so-honest about something (s)he knows (strategic omission). Whatever... you can find some reason to put a bottleneck or to select just one preferential pathway but you are de facto promoting a lack of self-consciousness. But a system that wants to grow and play a key role, bringing real value, cannot be "collectively stupid". Of course this is good for those who believes they are more clever, but that's just not wiki. You can't promote a non-wiki attitude in a wiki environment. You will release a lot of tension. And than what? you look for scapegoats? Those scapegoats will be active users, and if they leave this means lack of users and creativities. Plus in a "open wiki environment" they just go somewhere else, and that's embarrassing to justify.
BTW, on the long term a balance will be found. That's for sure. What is up to people and single communities is how to reach it. Luckily, there is plenty of room to express the potential. Focalpoint for example will find something else useful to do, so no big deal.--Alexmar983 (talk) 06:36, 11 May 2016 (UTC)Reply

Useful list

[edit]

You could inform the others of these mailing lists. if more people have access to new information, statistically one of them will open a thread and inform even more users. If it is true than el-N users are very active on enWiki as well, it is a good thing they are informed on cross-wiki and meta-wiki discussions.--Alexmar983 (talk) 04:16, 11 May 2016 (UTC)Reply

proposal

[edit]

jus for you to know. I will be in Tuscany starting the 3rd of August and I live far away so i have to stay there with my family and I can't go somewhere else in Europe. I can in any case host up to 5-6 people in comfortable locations where I live (some of the people should share in queen-size bed.). I am inviting friends to join me but they are not coming, they prefer to visit me in China, much more interesting.

I personally know the wikimedia local coordinator for Tuscany, would you like to organize some Greek users trip here, something like Greek-Tuscany edit-a-thon or cultural exchange? I live close to Pisa airport, there are a lot of low costs.

I know that Greek people don't have a lot of money now but i man you can have a holiday in Tuscany basically for "free", just the travel tickets. And if not now, we can do it next year but the international and economical situation is not great, so I would hurry up.

What do you think? Interested? I can start to make some call.--Alexmar983 (talk) 03:44, 23 May 2016 (UTC)Reply

In any case I start to inform my family, just to be sure they are ok (my parents are old, sometimes I cannot stress them as much as I please). In the worst case scenario I may need few days after my arrival to arrange the places all by myself. but if someone arrives around the 5th-6th it should be ok. I am home again in december, but winter is sooooo gloomy and rainy here... if it is ok with them thy can come around december before Christmas, my sister is probably not visiting us for the season.--Alexmar983 (talk) 07:29, 23 May 2016 (UTC)Reply
BTW I should leave around the 17th of August back to China, that date is not fixed. My parents just told me they are ok to use the family house.--Alexmar983 (talk) 07:40, 23 May 2016 (UTC)Reply
Family first!
For the following years, I'll let people "come to me". When you live 10000 km away form your family, you can visit places mainly if they are on the way. So it's life.--Alexmar983 (talk) 08:10, 23 May 2016 (UTC)Reply

Wikiconference: Why not Greece?

[edit]

Question: if it-N users ask money to MWF to do a conference (and they have a national chapter to finance it) Grants:Project/Jaqen/WikiConference IT, why don't you do it?

I mean a WikiConference EL for Greek (and Cyprus) users could be a good idea, if it is in a tourist place, other wikimedians can come.

Plus, I think you "need" those money much more than the Italians... at least for now (crossed finger). It would be a better use of WMF money--Alexmar983 (talk) 09:34, 17 July 2016 (UTC)Reply

>--Alexmar983 thank you for your message and sorry I didn't get back to you right away, I was on holiday in lovely Santorini:) As for your question: very good idea indeed! But there are some roadblocks... one of them is that we do not have a chapter, but we have two user groups. The question everyone was asking me in Esino was "why two user groups"? The answer is that these two groups have totally different approaches and there is little (if any) common ground. But these are internal issues and it wouldn't be fair to tire international friends with them. I guess a conference would be possible if there were at least good cooperation between the groups to organize it. I'm quite certain the association that I belong to would be willing to work in this direction, not sure about the other group. Anyway, it's something worth discussing. As for the setting being very attractive for other Wikimedians, yes indeed that is absolutely true! Plenty of beautiful tourist places all over the country. BTW, next time you are in Italy and want a quick escape, take a Ryanair flight to Kefalonia, it's cheap and easy. You don't need to worry about accommodation of course. It would be great to discuss these issues - and many more! - in person:-) Cheers, Mina --Saintfevrier (talk) 12:11, 22 July 2016 (UTC)Reply
thanks again but again, if i fly to Greece, it won't be soon... I would like to come but you know, with two aging parents and living far way, my holidays are "on duty". But we will meet, at least at my place next summer. I'v not dropped the idea.
In any case I think that a conference could help to go beyond the "two user groups" division. I mean you can always propose it as an idea, use the olive branch as a logo :D Find a neutral ground and start from there, two organizers from both "group"? Is this division the same on every platform? Like maybe some el-N project are less "socially" fragmented, than focus on those. Also there are el-N people from Greece and Cyprus but many el-N live in UK or Germany. Even if they don't edit on el-N platform a lot they are el-N, it could be useful to attract them (i can find them to inform) and "dilute" the meeting? If you can do it for a single-time event, maybe you can finally prove that you can go "beyond" certain division. Who knows, but I mean it looks to me like a fruitful idea. There are two countries involved, so it is translational, there's a very good reason (go beyond a user group division), and also the funding for a conference can provide also travel grants.--Alexmar983 (talk) 13:48, 22 July 2016 (UTC)Reply
or, plan B, find a different area of intrerest, for example the "Balcan koiné". If the The Balkan sprachbund comprises Albanian, Romanian, Bulgarian, Macedonian, Serbo-Croatian and Greek, why don't try that way? ex-URSS countries have their conference already, check if something similar is not possible in the south-East of Europe. Very diplomatic solution, but if a Greek can accept to cooperate with an Albanian or a Macedonian, why can't he on a long term cooperate with a fellow Greek? :D--Alexmar983 (talk) 13:57, 22 July 2016 (UTC)Reply
Hmmm... I like your approach! And LOL yes, the olive branch is a perfect logo :D OK I will discuss this with my group and we will see how to reach out to the others and the community at large and make this a reality. Thanks for the idea and support! --Saintfevrier (talk) 06:03, 27 July 2016 (UTC)Reply
I was commenting in Open_Labs_Hackerspace_-_Wiki_Loves_Maps_(Albania) last month, IMHO many small south-eastern European communities can learn from mutual interaction. Showing their pilot projects financed by MWF, for example. It's not iberocoop but again we are very worried about the "global south" but also in the peripheral areas of the north I see a lot of initiatives that will benefit from a joint strategy. --Alexmar983 (talk) 10:52, 6 August 2016 (UTC)Reply

Translation in Greek and a new tool

[edit]

Hi, with a friend with have developed a new tool called wiki needs pictures. The tool does not upload information from wikidata (the most important part) but that's because it is more than 300k entries and some aspect have to be refined. In any case it is almost complete and it will be fixed by Alessio by the end of the month.

The good thing compared to wikishootme is that it is flexible. For example we can organized specific competitions with additional lists and insert them. Also if a chapter with no financial means needs an infrastructure for a photo competition it is ready

I am not bothering you with more details, I am contacting you because we have to spread it around outside it-N communities. Question number 1: can you show it to your user group when it is the time (September I guess)? Question number 2: can you help me to translate a very short presentation in modern Greeek? The tool read the settings of the browser but only main western languages (FR, DE, IT, EN, ES) are available now. So here is the text:

Many Wikipedia articles have no images or only few. Some of them talk about things that are out there, ready to be photographed. Find them all!

Instructions

  • Use the top-left button to adjust the zoom or double click into the map. You can also click on a cluster near the location you want to explore.
  • Use the top-right button to filter pinpoints by category.
  • Use the bottom-right button to go to your current position.
  • Pass over a pinpoint to see its name. Make a click for more details and links.

Take pictures and upload them to Wikimedia Commons, then resolve the related warning (e.g. removing the template in its page or adding the image to Wikidata) and at the next run you will see the pinpoint disappear. Great job!

For any trouble or suggestion write on this page. This is an open source project! Let's code together in this Github repository.

The tool updates the view once a day. Please be patient, it takes a while to load all the data.

Thanks in advance.--Alexmar983 (talk) 10:43, 6 August 2016 (UTC)Reply

Project bullying

[edit]

Dear Saintfevrier, thank you for inviting me to join the bullying writing week. However I do not think bullying would be a good subject for us to write about. It is a very specilist area. I would prefer a more general topic, where people can join, no matter what their interest is. That way we can attract more people to join. Since we can only organise a limited amount of writing weeks per year, and we just finished the LGBT writing weeks, I think it is better that we do not join the writing week on bullying. Please let this not stop you from having a great writing week on the Greek Wikipedia. I think these type of writing initiatives are important and can be a very positive influence on a Wikipedia. Also the timing is very good with the start of the school year. Let me know if you need any help to put a banner on top of all your pages for the readers to see. I would be happy to help with that. I hope you guys also have many more writing weeks in the future. There will certainly be future projects where working together wil benefit all, and I hope we can work together again in the future. When you have an interesting project again, please let me know in time, and I can see if I myself or someone on the Dutch Wikipedia wants to organise it in Dutch. Sincerely, Taketa (talk) 20:08, 21 August 2016 (UTC)Reply

I didn't forget

[edit]

I am busy but soon or later we will meet. In May I am cleaning my grandma's house for any tyoe of future guests, just in case, but I work hard here in China and I am not coming home often.

In the meantime someone wants to create Italian Minor Projects' Wikimedia User Group. Now Italy is becoming a little bit like Greece (you can guess where my "sensibility" came from last year... any clue?). In any case on this discussion I proposed it to be renamed "school and education Italy" and I cited Greece and Brazil as an example. I hope User:Samuele2002 and User:Mizardellorsa will follow my advice. If they do, we can create a federation of "school and education group" stressing the importance for reason of grants but also interactions with minors of specific UGs in many countries and suggest some sort of coordination. We could meet under this umbrella next year. Even organize with the funding of WMF a Wiki gathering about this theme. Bye!--Alexmar983 (talk) 12:02, 23 February 2017 (UTC)Reply

Alexmar983 it is nice to know that Greece has inspired Italy to tread similar paths in integrating minors on the Wikimedia projects! It is very important for school students to become acquainted with the multiple benefits of editing WM as a lifelong practice. I am running an innovative pilot at my morning school for the first time this year (in addition to a really ambitious project as usual at my evening school), you will read about our accomplishments at the evening school in the next education newsletter and at the morning school in an upcoming edition. Of course I understand where your "sensibility" stems from;-). But there have been more disappointing incidents between myself and the WMF - not the movement, no-one can take away from me what the movement means to the PEOPLE. Too much hypocrisy however from the WMF. If you have a look at my contribs here on Meta you will get the picture. Anyway I don't to get into any more details now, i am very busy also - flying to Manchester tomorrow to visit my daughter - take care and feel free to drop me an email whenever you like. I am certain that we will meet in person in the future... hopefully the NEAR future:-)--Saintfevrier (talk) 06:32, 24 February 2017 (UTC)Reply
Yes "minors" is a key aspect. Minors want to be more integrated and WMI is sometimes "cold"... you know it is not anyone's fault sometimes, but there are certain dynamics that in turn show some long-term effect... let's just focus on the good aspects, I hope we can make something for these motivated youth soon. :) I want to give them a nice environment, my mother was a teacher, I know how important it is.--Alexmar983 (talk) 06:38, 24 February 2017 (UTC)Reply
Scusami se intervengo qui e doppia scusa se scrivo in italiano. Una collaborazione futura è possibile. Teniamoci in contatto.--Mizardellorsa (talk) 10:56, 25 February 2017 (UTC)Reply
Mizardellorsathank you for your reply, apologies for writing in English as I don't speak Italian. From what i understand you are willing to collaborate:) Another idea is the project I am running this year at my evening school: have a look here and see if you are interested in exploring Mediterranean biodiversity in Italy as well!--Saintfevrier (talk) 10:46, 9 March 2017 (UTC)Reply

About the 4Gym Agios Dimitrios

[edit]

Hello Sainfevrier (I've always wanted to know where the nick comes from ;))! I am just pinging you to make sure that if you have a minute or two, you please help me monitor the 4Gym Agios Dimitrios grant. I want to make sure that the would-be grantee feels comfortable with all the questions that are asked of him and does not feel overwhelmed with all the English ALL THE TIME. I have put back his grant on draft mode, so that he can flesh it out, after an email he sent me with a new budget, but I need him to make sure that what was in the email is reflected in the grants page. I do not know if you have the time to be around just in case, but if you do, I'd be grateful for your help should it be needed :). Thanks! Delphine (WMF) (talk) 11:38, 7 March 2017 (UTC)Reply

Delphine (WMF) I would be happy to help out! True I am rather short on time but this project is worth supporting... I have faith in the grantee and I am quite sure he will produce valuable work with his students, and hopefully open the road for more non-technology oriented teachers in Greece to follow. (As for my username, you're right in discerning that it's an interesting story: in 1999 I had a serious accident that nearly cost me my life. In ICU, literally between life and death, my sister asked me which CD I wanted her to bring so I could listen to on my discman. Without hesitation I replied "Agios Fevruarios". To this day I have no idea why at such a critical moment in my life I asked for that particular CD: I had never been obsessed with it, or with that kind of music before. "Agios Fevruarios" translates to "Saint February", in French Saintfevrier (sounds better than English):-) Cheers, Mina--Saintfevrier (talk) 13:57, 8 March 2017 (UTC)Reply
Dear Mina, thanks for explaining the username (it's of course, the Frenchness of it that caught my eye ;)) and for keeping an eye out for this project. Best, Delphine (WMF) (talk) 14:32, 8 March 2017 (UTC)Reply
My pleasure (BTW I don't even speak French, wish I did... but I was born in Montreal, during Expo67. My family moved to the US when I was 8 months old). Ping me when you need assistance in this project! Thanks, Mina--Saintfevrier (talk) 06:21, 9 March 2017 (UTC)Reply

[Wikipedia & Education User Group] Updates: November 2018

[edit]

Greetings,

Integrating Wikimedia with education is a powerful strategy for the outreach of Wikimedia projects. Realising this concept, a group of leaders promoted this and formed the Wikipedia Education Collaborative. After some time, this evolved to become a user group, officially recognised by the Affiliations Committee in June 2018. The user group had its first board elections earlier in September. In the process to formalise activities and give a shape the user group for long-term sustainability, we are now revamping our processes. Thanks for supporting us during incubation stages, we are now inviting you to formally join the user group by following the instructions on the members' page. Being a member will allow you to be a part of this wonderful collaboration and also do interesting stuff.

Kind regards

Wikisocial to reduce the risk of nuclear Armageddon

[edit]

@Saintfevrier: What would you suggest I do to try to get major philanthropies to help the Wikimedia Foundation develop noncommercial social media (e.g., “WikiSocial”) that social activists all over the world would use, because it better serves their needs?

I'm writing you, because of your interest in “Social Activism and Wikipedia”.

A growing body of research documents how current social media are increasing driving people apart through “microsegmentation”, Balkanizing and exploiting the international body politic to benefit people who control media funding and governance. This works, because people make most decisions based on what comes most readily to mind. We are capable of more careful thought and search for evidence, but we are not good at identifying when we should search for contrary evidence. The Centre for the Study of Existential Risk at the University of Cambridge in England estimated a 0.6 percent chance of a nuclear war in the next year, which is virtually equivalent to a 21 percent chance of a nuclear war in the next 40 years. The most likely result of such a war is a nuclear winter lasting over 5 years during which 98 percent of the people worldwide would starve to death if they didn't die of something else sooner.

Countering the Balkanization of the Body Politic

I believe that the Wikimedia Foundation is ideally placed to convince major philanthropies to fund the development of social media that social activists would use to build bridges over the walls amplified by more traditional media. I started writing about this roughly two years ago, and I made a lighting talk about it at Wikimania 2018.

Almost two years ago, the Omidyar Network[1] and the Hewlett Foundation[2] advertised for ideas of this nature that they might fund, and I believe we could likely get funding from other major philanthropies if we could use it constructively.

I also believe that if we have a prototype that works, we can get groups like Extinction Rebellion and the Sunrise movement to help refine and use it, because I think it would be easy to convince them that commercial social media is part of the problem, and pioneering noncommercial social media would help advance their cause. I also think we can similarly convince other social activist groups that commercial and state-run social media are an obstacle to their success and promoting Wikisocial can help them achieve their objectives.

I'm the Secretary of a 100,000 watt radio station, KKFI, in Kansas City. We're an affiliate of the Pacifica network of close to 200 noncommercial radio stations. I've been to DC twice so far this year lobbying on anti-nuclear issues with Peace Action and the Alliance for Nuclear Accountability. I'm on the Board of PeaceWorks Kansas City, and I know people with Extinction Rebellion. I think I can find people to collaborate as beta testers of some WikiSocial, e.g., Mastodon (software) if it were part of a plan for worldwide deployment to improve the functioning of democracy worldwide.

What do you suggest I do to advance “Social Activism and Wikipedia” in this way -- especially between now and the June 9 deadline for proposals for activities at Wikimania 2019? Thanks, DavidMCEddy (talk) 21:27, 5 June 2019 (UTC)Reply

@DavidMCEddy: Thanks for reaching out to me! However let me point out that I submitted a Space proposal titled "Social Activism and Wikipedia" when the call for Spaces was open, and sadly my proposal was rejected by the committee (they sent an apologetic e-mail saying how not all Spaces could be accepted due to restrictions of time and space etc., and that I could submit a proposal in other approved Spaces). However i am happy that you found me and it would be interesting if we could meet at Wikimania and discuss these issues in person :) As for your suggestion: it's interesting and inspiring, but let me give you the first constraint that came to mind: TIME. All of us are more or less involved in social media, and it takes up a portion of our time (personally, Facebook and Instagram, Twitter to a smaller extent). Adding yet another platform to our daily repertoire would mean needing to spend more time on social media. Then, resources: Google recently decided to take down its Google Plus platform. If Google can't support a social media platform with little activity compared to the giants, imagine how it would be for a small player. ON THE OTHER HAND... the idea of a wiki-based social media environment is enticing! And perhaps the (few) people who have not succumbed to any of the other platforms may be willing to give it a try... definitely worth discussing :) I will have a look at the links at the first opportunity, gotta run now, just about to start some late-night local activism in my neighbourhood ;-) (I live in Greece, it's 1am here) Take care, keep in touch, see you in Stockholm! @Saintfevrier: Thanks for your reply.
How can I find the spaces that were approved?
What would you suggest I do to build on these ideas compatible with what the organizers are looking for?
I agree it would not work to ask people to spend more time on social media. Instead, I want to convince people that Facebook, especially, and all other commercial and elite-controlled media more generally, are major contributors to the social problems that concern them. If I can convince Facebook users of that, then they will want to migrate away from it and start using some other social media platform that seems more likely, as I said, to build bridges over the walls that make money for commercial media.

@Saintfevrier: I'd like to invite you to review and comment on my workshop proposal for Wikimania:2019:Partnerships/Volunteers needed to develop noncommercial social media to save civilization. I could use a co-leader for the session, if that seems like something you'd like to do. I'd also be pleased to receive any other comments (or edits) you'd care to contribute even if you don't want to co-lead the session, if it's approved. See you in Stockholm. Thanks, DavidMCEddy (talk) 14:04, 8 June 2019 (UTC)Reply

@DavidMCEddy: Sincere apologies for the late reply! Actually I was in a whirlwind for the months before Wikimania... however I did try to find you before leaving for Stockholm: I thought you had sent me this message on the Wikimania site and it didn't occur to me that you had reached out on Meta before just visiting my page for another message. So your presentation was accepted and presented at Wikimania: how could I have missed this??? So sorry we didn't manage to meet in person, hope we do at an upcoming event :) (that said, you may be interested in having a look at the slides of the presentation I made last Saturday in Marrakesh. Have a look at the social justice section and tell me what you think. Also, I would love to have feedback about how your presentation at Wikimania was received and whether it led to action. All the best from Greece, hope to hear from you soon! --Saintfevrier (talk) 22:48, 9 October 2019 (UTC)Reply

Wikicafé

[edit]

Hey, there. I just read your comment on our activity last year. I'm sorry it took so long for this answer to come around and find your discussion page. Anyway, here it is. Wikicafé as a name was used before by the Ecuadorian user group. We found out later that year that we weren't the first to use the term. However, our activity had a different objective and developed a little differently from what we originally planned.

Some institutions appreciated the idea that a Wikipedia came and explained what Wikipedia is and what they can do with it. Some of them were scholars who didn't like idea of having an event like that in their institution, but later understood the value of Wikipedia after some heated debate in some cases. All people who participated were interested to learn more and edit more. From those experiences we got an editor that later presented on one of the monthly events we have with the Spanish Center for Culture. All in all, we learned that there is a lot of room for working with different types of projects, and that we need more hands, so those ideas can later become projects. I hope you find the time to share your experience as well. Greetings from Bolivia. --alhen Did you call, sir? 15:56, 1 October 2019 (UTC)Reply

Alhen hello and no worries! It's nice to hear that you had some success with your efforts :) As for me, I have left the Wikicafe plan for the time being, long story... anyway, I am currently doing other things and making other plans on the Wikimedia projects. These relate mainly to medical Wikidata, restarting my Wikitherapy program and always: how we can use Wikipedia as a tool for social justice. Have a look at the slides of the presentation I recently made at WikiArabia, you may find it inspiring (I hope, at least!) And BTW, I met many Ecuadorians at Manchester University last July: they have invited me to visit them in Ecuador, hopefully I will achieve that one day. If I am ever in South America I will ping you (and do the same to me if you ever visit Greece!) All the best :-) --Saintfevrier (talk) 23:05, 9 October 2019 (UTC)Reply

A big thank you for organizing #WikiForHumanRights! And please give us feedback!

[edit]

Both UN Human Rights and the WMF team are really grateful. Initial data suggests that this year we doubled the volume of content created and grew the campaign in languages and geographies. This kind of activation only works when we have local-organizers doing targeted outreach to their communities.

We are still learning how to organize this campaign, would like your feedback. Please fill out this survey at: this google form.

We will use the summary of findings and recommendations from the survey for the report on the campaign and for designing next year’s campaign. Our hope is to support more decentralized events, potentially with less experienced organizers -- so we need your help understanding what worked, what didn’t and what kinds of preparation we need to help communities with next year.

Please note that the collected information in this survey will be treated as in WikiForHumanRights Organizer Feedback Privacy Statement.--MBakni (WMF) (talk) 19:18, 15 June 2021 (UTC)Reply
