About that hierarchical presentation at T61643
[edit]Hi, Nikerabbit,
Not sure where the best place to talk to you is, or under what user id. Nothing much seems to be happening at m:User talk:Nikerabbit, and even less at fi:User talk:Nikerabbit. So, here? Anyway, had a question about this comment of yours at task T61643, where you talked about someone coming up with a "hierarchical presentation of gender distinctions for languages". Did anyone come up with that? Did you?
P.S. We can move this to some other page of yours, or to w:User talk:Mathglot if this is not the right place for this. Cheers, Mathglot (talk) 01:09, 28 September 2019 (UTC)
- This is the talk page of my work account, which I rarely, if ever, use. You can see the current status in the task, there is no work being doing behind the curtains. So the answer is no. – Nikerabbit (talk) 09:20, 7 October 2019 (UTC)
Communications to Wiki Ligure
[edit]Hi Nkaxstrom, pls let me report my latest conversation with your colleague:
Hi, I am one of the admin on Wiki Ligure. As you posted your latest communications in Italian on the English page of our community, we changed the text back to the original text. We do not depend on Wiki Italia, although most of our users also speak and write in Italian. Please forward the original text in English next time. Luensu1959 (talk) 12:11, 25 June 2024 (UTC)
Hi @Luensu1959:, thanks for your message. As far as I understand (and I'm not a MediaWiki developer), Italian is the fallback language for Ligurian; which means if there's no Ligurian version of a MassMessage but there's one in Italian, you will receive the message in Italian. This is my understanding based on this .svg of MW fallback chains. If you wish to update this preference, I think my colleague Niklas Laxström can help you to the right direction. Cheers, RamzyM (WMF) (talk) 12:25, 25 June 2024 (UTC)
So far we have received messages in Italian and English. That is why we have in place since many years two different pages for our community (one is Pòrtego da Comunitæ and the other is Community Portal). If things keep changing "up above", we can only reiterate our wish every time that there is a change. Thx, I will write to your colleague. sincerely, Luensu1959 (talk) 07:12, 26 June 2024 (UTC)
Translations sometimes entail mistakes or misunderstandings. It simply happens with humans and machine translation tools. We admin would like keeping the "old" system that proved to be efficient and was never ever criticised by any of our users. So, for further official communications please refer to English as a fallback language by sending them (as usual) to our Community Portal. All the best Luensu1959 (talk) 07:23, 26 June 2024 (UTC)
