welcome to Meta!
[edit]Hello, Nicole Sharp. Welcome to the Wikimedia Meta-Wiki! This website is for coordinating and discussing all Wikimedia projects. You may find it useful to read our policy page. If you are interested in doing translations, visit Meta:Babylon. You can also leave a note on Meta:Babel or Wikimedia Forum if you need help with something (please read the instructions at the top of the page before posting there). Happy editing!
magic of a metauserpage
[edit]- Hi Nicole. I see that you have been creating user pages around the wikis, and that is not necessary. All you need to do is to create a user page here at meta, and with the magic of transclusion that user page will appear at every wiki for you until you create a specific user page at the wiki (ie. a local page overrides the transclusion), which is pretty much how we propagate Commons images through the wikis. For instance if you look at q:User:Billinghurst you will see my user page from User:Billinghurst (with some slight differences through my local use of <includeonly> and <noinclude> tags). Far easier to do, and to update. — billinghurst sDrewth 04:47, 8 September 2015 (UTC)
- I am not certain if a centralized wikiuserpage is simpler or more complicated. Userpages customized per each project (e.g. favorite quotes on WikiQuote, favorite words on Wiktionary, etc.) can be helpful and interesting I think. Also, some wikiprojects are per-language whereas other wikiprojects are multilingual (such as WikiSpecies and Wikimedia Commons), so that both monolingual and multilingual profiles are arguably most effective, depending on the project. - It's not currently auto translated in multiple languages though... Tropicalkitty (talk) 04:22, 4 October 2015 (UTC)
- The central page is more like a default page, if you don't have a local page at each wiki, as I mentioned above. I am not telling you what to do, just what is possible. — billinghurst sDrewth 13:19, 4 October 2015 (UTC)

- Unblocked again. I will update the abuse filter. — billinghurst sDrewth 12:13, 5 October 2015 (UTC)
- Thanks! Updated. However, I do see a problem with using a monolingual metawikipage on non-English Wikimedia projects. It would be nice if there was a way to customize metawikipages towards languages or language groups (e.g. using a Latin-language page for all Romance-language wikiuserpages, instead of translating into each individual Romance language).
