Problems
- The block log sometimes showed blocks as being much longer than they were. This has now been fixed. [1]
Changes this week
- Wikimedia pages will now be better at showing pictures when you share them on social media. The descriptions will be different too. You can see an example of before and after. [2]
- There are some changes to the OOjs UI. Some old functions will not work anymore or not work as they used to. This could be a breaking change. [3]
- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 7 February. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 8 February. It will be on all wikis from 9 February (calendar).
Meetings
- You can join the next meeting with the VisualEditor team. During the meeting, you can tell developers which bugs you think are the most important. The meeting will be on 7 February at 20:00 (UTC). See how to join.
Future changes
- Tidy will be replaced later this year. Instead, the HTML 5 parsing algorithm will be used to clean up bad HTML in wikitext. This will cause problems on a number of wikis. They need to be fixed first. You can see if your wiki still has something to fix here for one of the HTML problems. This list does not cover all problems. You can read about more problems. [4][5]

Recent changes

Problems
- The Firefox add-on Firefogg can cause problems with the Upload Wizard. This will not be fixed, because Firefox will not support Firefogg in the future. The Upload Wizard will no longer work with Firefogg. [9]

Oauth for samwilson-ia-upload
Hi, could you please re-enable the samwilson-ia-upload Oauth consumer? It's got a different callback to the ia-upload one, and I use it for local development. Thanks! Sam Wilson 10:30, 16 February 2017 (UTC)
- @Samwilson: Sure, which version do you want re-enabled again? Regards, —MarcoAurelio 10:31, 16 February 2017 (UTC)
- The 1.0 one: https://meta.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:OAuthListConsumers/view/2a2d525a65c6423015a6e3a290a62db0&name=samwilson-ia-upload&publisher=&stage=-1 Thanks. It doesn't have to actually be approved, it can just stay as pending (or whatever it's called); it'll still let me use it, but no one else (which is what it's for). :) Sam Wilson 10:34, 16 February 2017 (UTC)
- Okay, approved. There's no way to put the consumer back to "pending" status, so I had to approve it. Otherwise if the consumer is pending for a long time, the system automatically rejects it as expired. Regards, —MarcoAurelio 10:36, 16 February 2017 (UTC)
- Ah cool, no worries. Thanks. Sam Wilson 10:44, 16 February 2017 (UTC)

Would you mind adding .chez.com to the abuse filter. A free website that new users don't need to be adding. Thanks. — billinghurst sDrewth 12:41, 20 February 2017 (UTC)

It seems a patch of yours went missing from the schedule. :) Given phabricator:T154816#3048705, you can probably restore it. Nemo 13:06, 23 February 2017 (UTC)

—MarcoAurelio 14:53, 27 February 2017 (UTC)

Problems
- On 22 February the wikipedia.org portal did not work for an hour. This was because of a problem with a JavaScript file. [17]
Changes this week
- You will be able to use
<chem>
to write chemical formulas in the visual editor. Previously this only worked in the wikitext editor. [18] - The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 28 February. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 1 March. It will be on all wikis from 2 March (calendar).
Meetings
- You can join the next meeting with the VisualEditor team. During the meeting, you can tell developers which bugs you think are the most important. The meeting will be on 28 February at 20:00 (UTC). See how to join.
Future changes
- You can soon upload 3D files to Commons. The file formats are AMF and STL. The plan is for this to work later this week but it could be later. [19]
- The name "Wikipedia" will be more obvious at the top of the page when you read Wikipedia in the mobile view. This is because many readers don't realize they are on Wikipedia. [20][21]

Documentation template
Hi MarcoAurelio! I think you are one of the main adminstrators here, so I ask you in front of. While my maintenance work I hit on {{Documentation}}. To remove errors, I patched this template, but this is not how I am working. Now I want to resolve this problem, but there are a lot of imports to do, additional difficult updates on outdated pages (you know what I mean), before it will work correctly. See my chain of thought; due this I have a few questions:
- Why are so less documentations imported? And if they exist, why are they outdated?
- Is history of an import not needed? There are many copies of wp content without history or revision info.
- Do you think, if I request a temporary adminship for this job, I will receive this? Import rights are not enough, at first some pages are protected and in second I want to protect some of the imported pages.
Thank you for a reply and a hint how to resolve this problem. --Plagiat (talk) 22:30, 28 February 2017 (UTC)
- Dear Plagiat. Thank you for your kind message. You're raising an interesting question. Indeed many stuff at Meta is outdated, and maybe
{{documentation}}
is one of them.
- Answering your first question, I think we lack wikignomes that cover that important area of this project :o) Any help will certainly be welcome.
- With regards to the import, I don't think we need to do a full import of the history. According to our Terms of Use an hyperlink to the permanent link to the source is enough attribution. I personally prefer that as well since imported histories are confusing as it appears that some editor did something here when it's not true, although I can understand people making transwiki imports.
- Third, I think that our community would be sympathetic to any request for limited adminship with good reasoning and scope, and maintenance is IMHO a good reason.
- Having looked at your subpage, it looks great. However, do we really need to import everything from there? I mean, we know enwiki has a lot of templates and nice things but I'm not sure we need all of those here. There's also a proposal to develop a central repository for Lua modules, templates, gadgets, scripts; that will make having copies of everything outdated. I am not good when it comes to complex syntax or Lua, so while I appreciate you contacting me, I'd also prefer that you consult your roadmap with an experienced editor in advanced wikisyntax et al. so we're sure that everything goes well.
- Best regards, —MarcoAurelio 22:51, 28 February 2017 (UTC)
- Thank you for this pleasant response. I will request my limited WikiGnome adminship today. I know it is a long list of imports. When I stumble upon this loose carpet edge {{Documentation}} I wouldn't thought that either.
