Lack of responses from Fundraising team?

[edit]

Hi Lisa,

I'm still waiting for a response to this.

Also, this comment on the Wikimedia blog indicates that a donor has made repeated requests for someone to contact him about translation and no one has done so. Is anyone referring requests like this to OTRS or other places where they can get help?

You seem responsive so I am hoping these issues will be addressed promptly.

Thanks,

Pine

Hi Pine-

Thanks for the questions. On the issue of the Analyst, the online fundraising team has had someone in this role for the past three years or so. Ryan Faulkner held this position within the fundraising team. Then, we had a consultant doing the fundraising analytics work. Now, the Analytics team is going to be hiring someone within their team who will serve fundraising. Megan's role is to manage the entire online fundraising operation. She spends most of her time on the creative side - writing fundraising messages and then testing them. The analyst will help interpret the results on those tests as well as other work. We are pretty excited about the position. There are a lot of questions that we have that really require someone with a stats background to answer. This is going to be a challenging year for fundraising. We are seeing a decrease in desktop traffic and an increase in mobile traffic. Mobile is not yet as effective of a fundraising platform, so we have a lot to learn this year and the analyst will help us make data-based decisions as we figure this out this new landscape.

And on the second issue: Yes! We will reach out to him. Thanks for sending it along.

Best, Lisa

Thank you, just noting here that I've read this and that we communicated via phone and email too. --Pine 04:32, 19 May 2014 (UTC)Reply

Re: own sales platform

[edit]

You say "If we had to build out our own sales platform in order to do this, it probably would not be worth it". Wikimedia Italia had one, and WMF forced us to close. How wise was that? The volunteer who run the shop is still not amused, still waiting for you to fix your mess. 5 years is a long wait, imagine how many good friends you make this way. Nemo 07:08, 22 March 2016 (UTC)Reply

Hi Nemo - I am not familiar with this decision and was not involved in it five years ago. I think we are talking about separate issues here though. I was answering a question about WMF building an open source sales (ecommerce) platform. We currently use Shopify . . . looks like the shop for Wikimedia Italia used Zencart - both third party providers. If Wikimedia Italia is interested in have a merch shop, please have them talk with Joseph Seddon. We are supportive of chapters have merch shops and he is going to be trying to figure out how to support this in the coming months. Best, Lisa --Lgruwell-WMF (talk) 16:08, 22 March 2016 (UTC)Reply

WMF wiki pages

[edit]

Dear Lisa, If you look at the 250 oldest pages on the Foundation wiki [1] you will see that most of them appear to be instructions dating back a dozen years or so about how to pay money to the WMF. Probably most of these pages are no longer useful. You might like to have a member of your staff look through them and either refresh or delete them. (As you know, mere volunteers are not permitted to edit this wiki, so it isn't possible for the community to help you out on this beyond pointing out the problem.) Thank you for pointing this out. We are on it! ---Lgruwell-WMF (talk) 22:51, 25 August 2016 (UTC)Reply

Status of mobile app partnerships

[edit]

Hi Lisa, what's the status on mobile app partnerships? I believe WMF has been working for some time to encourage carriers to pre-install the Wikipedia phone app. This might be of particular interest to people who would benefit from Wikipedia Zero. --Pine 00:49, 26 August 2016 (UTC)Reply

Hi Pine- We have been pursuing preload deals both with device manufacturers and carriers. We have not had much success of this as of yet. We have had more success with app store promotions that encourage people to download our apps. I will be publishing an update on this portion of the team's partnerships work this week and I'll be sure to link to that here. Thanks! --Lgruwell-WMF (talk) 05:34, 19 September 2016 (UTC)Reply
