Wikicite and Wikicat

[edit]

Hi, we were in touch last year when I was preparing my talk on fact-checking & validation. You can see what I consider to be the consensus at en:Wikipedia:Pushing_to_validation. I wanted to see how things were progressing with Wikicite and Wikicat. Is there any chance these could be up & running during 2007?

The article assessment scheme on en seems to be spreading virally, we just passed the "300,000 articles assessed" mark. You can see the main listing here. This means there are already several thousand people reading articles and assessing their quality - some as part of organised assessment teams - and these people will be already organised to start doing the fact-checking we need for full validation. We just need to get stable versions established and we'd be completely ready!

Please let me know where things stand with Wikicite/Wikicat. Thanks, Walkerma 01:00, 19 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hello, I was just looking over this, and was puzzled by an inconsistency between "Resource relator" and "Resource realtor" - am I right that one is a spelling mistake? Thanks, Walkerma 23:00, 21 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
Yes, spelling mistake- it should be "Realtor" throughout
I also noted that on your list of OPAC targets the link saying that "COPAC has no plans to return MARC data through its open target interface" has gone dead. Meanwhile, I note that the Copac news page is announcing a new (March 2007) interface and XML database. Could this indicate a change of heart, and a move towards Wikicat-accessible data? I think it would be very important to get the British Library included, not just the Library of Congress information, if at all possible. Walkerma 23:18, 21 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
Martin, thanks for the update. Yes, there is now an option to download bibliographic data in MODS XML record format, which is much richer and more suitable for Wikicat than SUTRS. I am not sure if the previous legal encumberances on this data have been lifted, though- will have to follow up.

Metadata standards

[edit]

Hi, I just saw this page which is probably somewhat relevant to the Wikicat work - something to keep an eye on, at least. I suspect that you will need to do a fair bit of metadata harvesting in bringing info to Wikipedia. Cheers, Walkerma 13:28, 26 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

How are you doing these days?  :) Would love to see these models in the current wikidata context. –SJ talk  09:32, 27 May 2018 (UTC)Reply
