Hello Jennifer Riggs!, and Welcome to the Wikimedia Meta-Wiki! This website is for coordinating and discussing all Wikimedia projects. You may find it useful to read our policy page. If you are interested in doing translations, visit Meta:Babylon. You can also leave a note on Meta:Babel or Wikimedia Forum (please read the instructions at the top of the page before posting there). Happy editing! -- Mikhailov Kusserow (talk) 03:27, 21 April 2009 (UTC)
Hi everyone!
[edit]I am the new Chief Program Officer at the Wikimedia Foundation. Feel free to leave comments and questions. I'll try to respond as often as possible.
- Hello! I heard there was an official statement of Wikimedia on the recent Freedom of Speech issue on Wikipedia (Wikipedia vs. Scientology). IF I understand this right, you would be the source for such statements. Where can I find it? Sorry for the intrusion but I just spend almost an hour looking for it. - The Foundation doesn't have official statements about arbitration decisions other than to describe the process as developed by and for the Wikipedia community. The Foundation does not control the content on Wikimedia projects, and the policies are set by community members. To read about their decision and the context of their decision and about the general process, go to the Arbitration Committee's page for this case: Scientology#Final_decision. - Biographies of living people: A new global policy that is being discussed.
Feel free to pass these links along to anyone else who may be interested. Cheers. --MZMcBride 18:20, 9 June 2009 (UTC)
Grants
[edit]SJ- I saw that you were active on an inactive Meta page about grants. While that conversation seemed to be more focused on getting external grants, we're now trying to pull together the WMF Mission Activities Grant process which was piloted this fiscal year with chapter grants. I welcome your input on any part of the process. Thanks!Jennifer Riggs 20:47, 1 September 2009 (UTC)
- Yes, I was active there once and even on the long-dormant grantswiki (!)... which we should finally close and definitively merge (say, into a combination of meta and internal, to preserve history). I'll think a bit about how to handle MAG ideas - is there more written about it than on the WMF grants page you link above? In particular, I think it will be easier to figure out how to facilitate this once we have a clearer idea of what are "projects that further the WMF mission" and what is a reasonable way to draft an independent grant proposal. -- sj · translate · +
- For instance, GChriss has recently found an NEH grant he thinks one of his projects is eligible for. He doesn't want funds from the WMF per se, but needs to find a non-profit that can accept this external grant to support his work. Where does this fit into the MAG spectrum? For another instance, there are initiatives that want to help Wikimedia projects interoperate better with other projects. Some of them would directly improve the content of Wikimedia projects, others would not. How do we identify 'grants of time' to facilitate some of this work -- especially when the best experts in wiki process and project development to help facilitate new work are usually active contributors working on their own projects? If we can broaden the scope of this discussion from 'WMF grants' (which come from the Foundation itself) to 'WM grants' (which come from Wikimedia as a whole, community and foundation and other supporters), some parts of the process may become much simpler, and others more rich in possibility. -- sj · translate · + 13:21, 4 September 2009 (UTC)
- I'm not sure what the best way to get categorized feedback is. Your initial way might work well once you invite more individual interested people to contribute. Or you might try simply listing possible types of feedback in a descriptive sentence. Or you could try it the way you have there -- but in a new section after asking for general feedback first (specific examples of feedback).
Kind wishes; and drop me a line?
[edit]Hey Jennifer,
I was sorry to learn that you've left. :( Would you be so kind as to drop me a line at my usual e-mail address? I don't seem to have a working e-mail address for you.
Please write, and I hope that our paths cross again. But regardless, I wish you the wind at your back, and the sun in your face, wherever your path takes you. friendly Proteins 03:17, 27 September 2009 (UTC)
Sango
[edit]Hello,
I don't know how much your official function allows you to contribute to the content of wikipedia but I still give it a shot. The wiktionary in Sango never took up.As you have registered as a speaker of sango, I would like to know whether you would be interested to working on the helping that wiktionary to rise up.
