Clarification

Hi,

I happy to see your edits of my interview of Tahir Mahmood.

However, a small clarification: "I then took the opportunity to sit and talk with the man behind the username" is a bit far-fetched assumption as of now. I never met him. I usually interact with him on-wiki. I exchanged emails with him only in connection with this interview, although I was part of the Skype call reported here.

Also, this is the raw interview text, in case, if you would like to refer to.

Cheers, --Muzammil (talk) 19:05, 10 June 2015 (UTC)

@Hindustanilanguage: - Thanks for commenting! I'll make some changes to make it more clear you didn't actually meet him. JSutherland (WMF) (talk) 20:10, 10 June 2015 (UTC)
@Hindustanilanguage: See what you think of the draft. Also sent you an email about this. JSutherland (WMF) (talk) 21:50, 10 June 2015 (UTC)
@JSutherland (WMF): as it it stands, it appears to be fine. Rest we've modified as discussed in our emails. --Muzammil (talk) 19:26, 11 June 2015 (UTC)
That's great - thanks! JSutherland (WMF) (talk) 17:18, 12 June 2015 (UTC)

Blogpost on thirteenth Nepali Wikipedia Celebration

Hello.

Nepali Wikipedia has completed 13 years of its inception. In this context, a small town Rajbiraj has taken the lead in its celebration. I've prepared a blogpost report here for the event. Request you to kindly post it on WMF blog at the earliest.

You can find the full gallery of pictures here (I've included only 3 in the writeup):

--Muzammil (talk) 19:00, 21 June 2015 (UTC)

@Hindustanilanguage: Thanks for this submission! The editorial team has reviewed the article and we've elected not to publish on this occasion; we usually avoid anniversaries of projects otherwise we would have hundreds of blogposts for them all! Hope you can understand the decision and I look forward to future suggestions! JSutherland (WMF) (talk) 17:51, 25 June 2015 (UTC)
Hi Joe,
I am not dejected by your disapproval. But at the same time I want to know about if the two blogs I plan to work on are acceptable to you or not:
(a) WMF-NIH Collaboration
(b) Wikipedia Education Program @ the University of Michigan.
Please let me know if things are indeed workable; else there is no point in furthering volunteer projects when the outcome is not consumable.
For your information, along with several posts which I succesfully posted, I also encountered situations where I miserably failed to blog: a comparative study of Wikivoyage & Wikitravel failed to click because admins of the later projects disallowed administering questionnaire or using talk pages for any purpose other than discussing articles; Pali and Hawaiian Wikipedia didn't have active and responding users when I wanted to survey these communities; Turkish Wikipedia questionnaire could not muster more than two responses.--Muzammil (talk) 23:42, 25 June 2015 (UTC)

UoM WEP

@Hindustanilanguage: I think we've already written a blogpost about the WMF-NIH collaborations, but the UoM education program sounds interesting - what exactly are you wanting to cover? Also pinigng Ed Erhart. JSutherland (WMF) (talk) 19:45, 30 June 2015 (UTC)

Hello,

I interviewed Anne J. McNeil and two other persons in connection with WEP.

Would welcome input from Ed Erhart, as you have pinged him. --Muzammil (talk) 07:58, 7 July 2015 (UTC)

Hi Muzammil - if you want to submit the draft and email me the link to it I will make sure someone sees it :) JSutherland (WMF) (talk) 15:22, 7 July 2015 (UTC)
Thanks, Joe, but I just want to confirm the viability of the topic and subject. I don't want put my effort for an unpublished blog like the one with the above Nepali Wikipedia related blog. I had good association with Carlos & Tillman and hope the same continues with you in my humble effort to showcase Wiki Projects and Communities. --Muzammil (talk) 15:34, 7 July 2015 (UTC)
Ah, that's fine then and understandable. I'll see what Ed thinks in that case! :) JSutherland (WMF) (talk) 15:43, 7 July 2015 (UTC)

Congratulations

Hi Joe! Congratulations on obtaining a degree in Journalism. This makes me even more happy because I am myself a graduate in Communication and Journalism.--Muzammil (talk) 18:27, 22 September 2015 (UTC)

Thank you! :D JSutherland (WMF) (talk) 18:28, 22 September 2015 (UTC)

Wikipedia 15 mass messages

Hi, you might want to interwiki the linked pages to Meta. :) Tropicalkitty (talk) 02:18, 4 November 2015 (UTC)

Ah! Sorry. I'll get on that now. Schoolboy error... JSutherland (WMF) (talk) 02:52, 4 November 2015 (UTC)
Thanks for getting some of those! I see I also forgot to sign them. Oy... JSutherland (WMF) (talk) 02:54, 4 November 2015 (UTC)
No worries! I didn't have time to check them all, since I was busy with other things off-wiki. Tropicalkitty (talk) 05:26, 4 November 2015 (UTC)

Wikipedia 15 Mark

Hi, can you please add sinhala version of Wikipedia15's mark (File:Wikipedia15 Animated Mark - Sinhala.gif) to Wikipedia 15/Mark with marked for translation. -- 1100100 (talk) 03:49, 8 November 2015 (UTC)

@Mr. 1100100: Done! Joe Sutherland (WMF) (talk) 12:15, 10 November 2015 (UTC)
Thanks -- 1100100 (talk) 12:24, 10 November 2015 (UTC)

Translation errors

Why is Wikipedia 15 displayed incorrectly here and in other sections except first and second one? --Obsuser (talk) 22:38, 15 December 2015 (UTC)

@Obsuser: Try now - think it needed a false edit to fix. Joe Sutherland (WMF) (talk) 22:50, 15 December 2015 (UTC)
Discussion and media sections still need fixing. --Obsuser (talk) 23:16, 15 December 2015 (UTC)
@Obsuser: I've done media, discussion isn't a translatable page since it'll be changing very often. Joe Sutherland (WMF) (talk) 23:19, 15 December 2015 (UTC)
Why not to translate only header with sections; I’m sure it can be done somehow by bypassing edition of whole usually changing talk page. And can you update Wikipedia 15/Events/sr to remove extra line? --Obsuser (talk) 23:45, 15 December 2015 (UTC)
@Obsuser: OK, try now? Joe Sutherland (WMF) (talk) 00:08, 16 December 2015 (UTC)
Wikipedia 15/Events/Package: Also, Wikipedia 15/Events/Package is not working (I mean Template:Wikipedia 15 menu is not working). more to follow should be translated too. --Obsuser (talk) 23:49, 15 December 2015 (UTC)
@Obsuser: I will fix this now. Joe Sutherland (WMF) (talk) 00:08, 16 December 2015 (UTC)
  1. Everything is fixed except Wikipedia 15/Events/sr (extra line between NOTOC and TNTN hasn’t been removed so after you change to events — it jumps a little bit down). --Obsuser (talk) 01:58, 16 December 2015 (UTC)
I'll try to fix that if I can. Joe Sutherland (WMF) (talk) 04:16, 16 December 2015 (UTC)
Fixed --Obsuser (talk) 20:24, 17 December 2015 (UTC)
  1. While I was translating here, I noticed completeness line was not working properly. Even if everything is translated, it shows 87%, for example (after you save everything), so I needed to change something in order to get 100% (I needed to save it once more with edited translation(s)). Also, it sometimes moves backward if you translate something more (if one new section has been added and you translate it, from — let’s say 97% — it moves down to 61%; just example numbers). Hope this will be fixed. --Obsuser (talk) 01:58, 16 December 2015 (UTC)
I'm not sure what this is. I think it's a bug in the system, I was getting it as well. Joe Sutherland (WMF) (talk) 04:16, 16 December 2015 (UTC)
Not fixed --Obsuser (talk) 20:24, 17 December 2015 (UTC)
  1. Can you make link on the various language Wikipedia editions for this event lead to the Wikipedia 15/ i.e. Wikipedia 15/sr home page for Serbian etc.? --Obsuser (talk) 02:48, 16 December 2015 (UTC)
Done Joe Sutherland (WMF) (talk) 04:16, 16 December 2015 (UTC)
  2. Can you translate "[translate this message]" from the banner into "[преведи ову поруку]" for Serbian Wikipedia or tell me where to translate it (although if it is already translated and translation is accepted, message on the banner shouldn’t be displayed). --Obsuser (talk) 02:48, 16 December 2015 (UTC)
I think it does not make sense to have this translated (as it would be translated at the same time as all the other things), but I will see if there is a "shared" one for all banners hidden somewhere. (Also, it is useful to have it remain in the banner in case there is an error so people can fix it) Joe Sutherland (WMF) (talk) 04:16, 16 December 2015 (UTC)
Fixed --Obsuser (talk) 20:24, 17 December 2015 (UTC)

Why I cannot approve translations like this one? I probably need some user right changes to bo able to do that... If it is true, how to get them or that is only possible for administrators to do? --Obsuser (talk) 20:24, 17 December 2015 (UTC)

I think you need to be a Translator (or an admin possibly?) to do that. Joe Sutherland (WMF) (talk) 20:32, 17 December 2015 (UTC)

I made Animated gif, Serbian and Animated gif, Serbian Latin, and added first one to Wikipedia 15/Mark. Can you update it for other translations/languages so it shows up there too, and enable translation for "Animated gif, Serbian" text? If you want, you can add Latin version of gif, too. Table with gifs should be updated as well so it says " Done" for Serbian gif. --Obsuser (talk) 22:54, 4 January 2016 (UTC)

On the welcome page and other pages related to Wikipedia 15, this logo should be translated. Now it is English version for all languages. Can you change here to Serbian animated gif because it is available now? --Obsuser (talk) 22:59, 4 January 2016 (UTC)
I'm not sure this is possible really. I will see though. As for your first request: there is a link to the commons cat which has lots of images not included there already for this purpose. Joe Sutherland (WMF) (talk) 23:01, 4 January 2016 (UTC)

@78.250.244.62: Pardon ! We didn't have the time to get the message translated :( Joe Sutherland (WMF) (talk) 23:33, 18 December 2015 (UTC)
Merci de votre réponse :-) Il n'était pas indispensable de traduire vous-même votre message, des contributeurs se seraient fait un plaisir de le traduire pour vous si vous l'aviez déposé au bon endroit, au Bistro des non-francophones :-) 78.250.244.62 02:52, 19 December 2015 (UTC)
