Hello!

[edit]

No spare time this wk for more than passing edits... nice to see the panels coming together. –SJ talk  02:02, 10 March 2021 (UTC)Reply

Great to hear from you, SJ! Thanks for all of your attention to this Call for Feedback. Your feedback touches so much more than just this call. Talk soon! - JKoerner (WMF) (talk) 03:18, 10 March 2021 (UTC)Reply

Hello. Here you changed one of panelist and removed (tbc). But why?

First it would be a good tone to write a brief description about why [you think] an user added by you as a panelist is an a topic expert (and what's the significant difference between him and other participants who will join and listen), like as here said about Houcemeddine Turki or here said about Florence Devouard, here said about Chris Keating or here told about Bishdatta.

Second, here told about "Every panel includes four members from the movement...along with a trustee of the Board". Is that NOT true about first topic panel session to be carried out and what is wrong with Dr Mel Ganus as an expert as there's still no any experts added instead of her to fullfill needed exactly 4 members?85.238.102.83 06:10, 10 March 2021 (UTC)Reply

Hi there! I will bring this feedback to the facilitation team. Hopefully we can add more information about the panelists to clarify your concerns.
For the Skills panel, Dr Mel and I talked yesterday and agreed to change panelists. We are still working on a fourth panelist. We have invited several panelists and are waiting on a confirmation. Hopefully we will have that today. Best, JKoerner (WMF) (talk) 12:41, 10 March 2021 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for clarification and your time. Still don't understand why Dr Mel out, but glad that's a mutual decision and hope she's ok.85.238.102.83 13:15, 10 March 2021 (UTC)Reply

Cross-posting on mailing lists

[edit]

When sending a message to many mailing lists, please send a single message to 9 mailing lists at a time. That will reduce the number of duplicates people receive. Don't mix private and public mailing lists in the recipients, and don't try to have more than 10 at a time, or your message may be held in moderation. Nemo 18:24, 21 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

Hi there, Nemo! Thanks for reaching out! I did not know that was a feature. Thanks for letting me know. How do you suggest I might group them to be most efficient? Best, JKoerner (WMF) (talk) 18:27, 21 May 2021 (UTC)Reply
I thought I had documented it somewhere but clearly I didn't, sorry for that. I'm not sure about the grouping, it depends how many lists we're talking about: if you put a list somewhere here in Meta, I can help group them (and maybe others will use the list again in the future).
In general, don't overthink it: it's only important to avoid the messages getting moderated, so you need to have private lists in one group and public lists in another. The rest doesn't matter so much. Nemo 06:47, 22 May 2021 (UTC)Reply
@Nemo bis: Great! I'll work on that this week. In my facilitation role, I am focused on English communities. I am sure other facilitators might benefit from grouping mailing-list outreach as well. I'll bring it up to other facilitators that they can do this. Best, JKoerner (WMF) (talk) 19:34, 24 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

@Nemo bis: Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. I will be sending out the Call for Candidates announcement soon and I realized I never replied to you! Since we do not have a solution yet, I will be sending the announcement to Wikimedia-l and All-Affiliates for now. I cover all English communities and a few others.

Lists I mail to include:

 • Wikimedia-l
 • All-Affiliates
 • Gender Gap
 • wikimedia-cascadia
 • wikimedia-boston
 • wikimedia-us-nc
 • wikimedia-us-co
 • wiktionary-l
 • wikisource-l
 • mediawiki-l
 • textbook-l

Please let me know if there is a way I can be less annoying with announcements. :) Best, JKoerner (WMF) (talk) 21:42, 8 June 2021 (UTC)Reply

Facilitator Support

[edit]

@JKoerner (WMF): Hello! Thanks for the message you left on my talk page. I will cordially invite you to check my Candidature page and Evaluation form. If anything is wrong there please contact me I will correct that.

I had some questions. They are:

1. I have submitted my Photograph and Birth certificate to secure-info@wikimedia.org to proof my identity but i can't see that anyone has verified my identity on my candidature form. When it will be verified?

2. As I said, I have submitted my photograph to secure-info@wikimedia.org So do i need to attach my photograph to my candidature page?

3. Is there one single facilitator reserved for helping every single candidates or what? Please explain. Md. Abdul Ahad Khan (talk) 01:05, 29 June 2021 (UTC)Reply

@JKoerner (WMF): You talked about making a schedule for the meet; will it be a video meet? Md. Abdul Ahad Khan (talk) 22:54, 29 June 2021 (UTC)Reply

@Md. Abdul Ahad Khan: That is what we planned, but if something different works better for you, please let us know. Best, JKoerner (WMF) (talk) 22:58, 29 June 2021 (UTC)Reply
@JKoerner (WMF): I haven't any problem to join a Video meet. But where it will take place? Are you on Telegram? Please provide the account name.Md. Abdul Ahad Khan (talk) 23:09, 29 June 2021 (UTC)Reply
@Md. Abdul Ahad Khan: I believe we were planning to use Google Meet. Please email me to plan a time to meet and we can decide what to use in that email. jkoerner-ctr(_AT_)wikimedia.org Best, JKoerner (WMF) (talk) 14:31, 30 June 2021 (UTC)Reply

@JKoerner (WMF):Ok. No problem. Soon I will inform you about the meeting schedule. But for now I have a question and that is:

"Do Wikimedia Foundation's Trustees get paid for their work? Or it is a voluntary work?" Please inform Md. Abdul Ahad Khan (talk) 17:55, 30 June 2021 (UTC)Reply
@Md. Abdul Ahad Khan: All non-profit board is voluntary. There is no payment for the Board trustee position. The only payment is reimbursement for travel or meals during meetings or events related to the Board trustee position. Best, JKoerner (WMF) (talk) 18:08, 30 June 2021 (UTC)Reply

Over nearly two years and two exciting seasons, we had the privilege of inviting inspiring voices from across the Wikimedia Movement and to learn about exciting and innovative initiatives. You can check out our website to listen to the episodes you may have missed.

At this time, we have decided not to continue with new WIKIMOVE episodes and instead to explore other ways to engage with our Movement Strategy. As a final wrap-up, we are pleased to share an evaluation of WIKIMOVE’s reach and reception with you. Feel free to reach out and stay in touch. Some tips on translate syntax

[edit]
 1. When making lists of items that will be added to as time passes translatable like you did with Wikimedia Foundation elections/2022/Announcement it's conventional to use one translation unit per list item not one for the entire list so translations don't have to be updated.
 2. The correct way to reference a translation variable in a translation unit is by prefixing the name with a dollar sign, not duplicating the definition. For example, Translations:Wikimedia Foundation elections/2022/Announcement/Vote for Election Compass Statements/4/ha is currently Masu Aikin Sakai a 2022 Board of Trustees electionana gayyatar ku da ku zaɓi jawabai da za'a yi amfani da su a Kamfas ɗin Zaɓen. Kuna iya zaɓan jawaban da kuke son gani an sanya cikin Election Compass a Meta-wiki., whereas it should be Masu Aikin Sakai a 2022 Board of Trustees electionana gayyatar ku da ku zaɓi jawabai da za'a yi amfani da su a Kamfas ɗin Zaɓen. Kuna iya zaɓan jawaban da kuke son gani an sanya cikin Election Compass a Meta-wiki.
 3. The entire point of translation variables (if you use them properly) is to not have to do things like this; if you change the content in the English page that's within a translation variable the translations will update automatically.

Also, would you mind marking your changes to Wikimedia Foundation elections/2022/Results for translation? I could do it, but I figured I should ask you since I'm not understanding what's going on there; the page was marked for translation, translated into a large number of languages, and then you made an edit that would force all of those translations to be updated -- what is the point of that dance? * Pppery * it has begun 18:36, 8 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

Hi Pppery, Thanks for taking the time to write this explanation. I tried finding some information about the $variables yesterday, but was unsuccessful. Thanks for clearing that up for me. Best, JKoerner (WMF) (talk) 21:36, 8 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

Connecting dots

[edit]

Hey, shouldn't Mental Health Resource Center be more connected/visible at Peer Support Networks within the Wikimedia Movement? (Also not sure about the actual relation between these projects.) Be well. Elitre (WMF) (talk) 09:11, 4 September 2023 (UTC)Reply

Heya! Yes, in my opinion, absolutely. The folks who were primarily supporting that work are no longer at the Foundation and the project paused as a result. I reached out to the other folks who were involved a few weeks ago and we chatted last week about what could be next. More soon. Best, JKoerner (WMF) (talk) 16:05, 5 September 2023 (UTC)Reply

UCOC charter vote

[edit]

Hi JKoerner, I am not really sure if Wikimedia shall be delighted with the result of the elections on the charter. There are several comments, questions and doubts at the talk page of the Universal Code of Conduct/Coordinating Committee/Charter which were left unanswered by anyone recognizable involved with the drafting of the charter. According to the comments there are quite some doubts by also experienced editors (Admins in other projects) about the wording of the charter and also the elections seemed to have been announced only on the 29th January while the voting process was going on already for at least a week. I also received the announcement per email on the 29th. And even though the voting process is over, the results seem to be hidden somewhere, I can't find them. In the whole UCOC process, there is really little interest in answering. I have been suggesting and asking since months, also way before the vote. Most comments were left unanswered. Paradise Chronicle (talk) 09:37, 5 February 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hey there, @Paradise Chronicle! Thanks for reaching out to me and for your feedback on the process. I'll make sure to pass that along.
As for the messaging, there were messages sent to Wikimedia-l about the voting period and one noting the voting opened. The reminder emails went out on the 29th of January just in case someone missed the opening emails so they did not miss the chance to have their voice recorded.
Regarding the results, the voting just closed a few days ago and the results are being reviewed by the scrutineers. It will be at least a week before the results are finalized and published. The results will be available once the scrutineers finish and the results are tallied. At that point, the U4C Charter Building Committee will review the results and comments. Best, JKoerner (WMF) (talk) 16:05, 5 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
Another note to you @Paradise Chronicle: I just read your comments on the U4C Charter talk page - it seems as though it's about copyediting for clarity. Even though your comments were not answered on the talk page, please know they are noted. The staff supporting this work noted there are comments about copyediting last week. After the results are available to the U4C Charter Building Committee, the Building Committee will look at the copyediting needs at that time. Best, JKoerner (WMF) (talk) 16:12, 5 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for the answer. I didn't receive an email when the voting began. And there are many comments about the wording, not just mine. And sorry for the a bit concerned feedback, but I am used to voting and election processes in the English wikipedia, Meta and commons where there are usually answers to questions in elections or voting processes. Paradise Chronicle (talk) 16:49, 5 February 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hi Jackie,

Thanks for starting this helpful page! The new Movement Charter will be up on Meta in little under two weeks, and we refer to this page in one of the supplementary documents for the Charter. Would you have time to work on it a bit more? I notice it says "Under construction" in the top. Ciell (talk) 18:22, 4 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hey there, Ciell! Could you please share some specifics you might be looking for? This contains the information as I know it. Is there something you see that is missing or might need to be clarified? Best, JKoerner (WMF) (talk) 20:22, 4 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
Sure. The page will be linked from the updated version of the Independent Dispute Resolution function, and we would like to emphasize that this new function should only be triggered when all other options for dispute resolution fail or are not suitable for the conflict or dispute. In the conversations the MCDC had we heard a lot of people confused about this scope, so a mapping of the options that are already out there would be great to help people understand when this function can be triggered/called upon.
I hope that makes sense! Ciell (talk) 06:17, 8 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

At this meeting we will focus on the recent statement by the WMF Board of Trustees liaisons statement on the Movement Charter in which the liaisons stated that they will be recommending the Board of Trustees not to ratify the final draft of the Movement Charter. The community and affiliate votes on the ratification are supposed to start on Tuesday, 25 June. This meeting offers a venue to discuss the situation and formulate the "next steps".

question re role

[edit]

hi! i hope alls well. as per this WMF Board page, your current role is: "Facilitation for English language and Meta-Wiki."

if this is still accurate, then could we please communicate, to discuss this? thanks. Sm8900 (talk) 16:11, 5 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hi there, @Sm8900! Thanks for this question. Yes, according to that page, that was my role at the time. As of mid-2022, I transitioned to a communication specialist role for Community Resilience and Sustainability, which is more behind the scenes. If you're curious, my user page is up-to-date and you can read about my current role there.
I also imagine there is a question behind your question and it's likely not about my role. :) <smily face> Feel free to share what you're wondering about and I'd be glad to help find more information. Best, JKoerner (WMF) (talk) 23:10, 8 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
