Preventing further Impersonating
{{helpme}} Is it possible to prevent future impersonators where they create accounts similar to my own user name - I have counted three impersonator accounts (Iggy the Swan 2021, Iggy the Swan 21 and, recently, Iggy the Swan II). An LTA, Mike Matthews17, has recently created accounts similar to usernames of users they harass within the last 90 days. I don't know the right places to post relevant content on meta wiki so I've questioned this on my own talk page. Iggy the Swan (talk) 17:26, 1 December 2021 (UTC)
- Well we can add your name to the Title blacklist for account creation anti spoof, I think that will help. File a request on the talkpage of the page and a meta admin / steward will do the necessary. Or maybe @Billinghurst: might want to take a look at this as I think you deal with such issues quite regularly. I hope this helps. Thanks much. Camouflaged Mirage (talk) 09:18, 2 December 2021 (UTC)
- I am guessing that this is behaviour at English Wikipedia. I think that the best avenue is to address at w:WP:ANI as there are a number of measures that they can and should be taking, especially with checkuser checks. While we can blacklist, it is not the best way to manage this as it doesn't stop the behaviour. The admins can come here to ask for blacklisting as part of a solution that they determine. — billinghurst sDrewth 09:40, 2 December 2021 (UTC)
- Thanks for the help re Title blacklist, especially as what I see contains a list of users who I recognise on there including Oshwah and Minorax for example. The amount of accounts starting with "Iggy" is definitely not as high as many other accounts so I don't see that as a major issue. But I certainly agree it won't stop the same behaviour as what has happened in the past three years. Iggy the Swan (talk) 17:25, 2 December 2021 (UTC)
