Wikimania 2017 reports table
[edit]Hello Irene,
I see that you've removed the reports table from the 2017 Wikimania scholars list - [1]
The table provided an important piece of scholarship process accountability. It came out of a discussion on wikimania-l last year, which encouraged scholarship recipients to publish non-sensitive parts of their application forms so future applicants can see what kind of experience and presentations won scholarships.
As a past scholarship recipient and former scholarships committee member, I strongly urge you to let us reinstate the 2017 table and encourage 2018 recipients to publish their application forms, to provide some much-needed transparency to the process. Deryck C. 11:31, 17 June 2018 (UTC)
- @Deryck Chan: Thank you very much for bringing this to my attention! I was endeavoring to "clean up" the page but was indeed overzealous, as you are right that the application links are valuable. I'll edit the page to re-link those applications in the next two week or so, and will encourage this year's recipients to link to their original applications when submitting their report. Thanks for catching this!
Agenda for Wikimania 2019?
[edit]What's the status of the agenda for Wikimania 2019?
I ask, because I think the agenda should include substantive discussion of the quality of Wikidata and its role in the overall Wikimedia project. I have over 6,000 edits in 23 Wikimedia projects since 2010-03-26, including Wikipedia, Wikiversity, Wikinews, Wikimedia Commons and Wikidata, mostly in English but some in Spanish, French and German. I heard about Wikidata before Wikimania 2017 but could not find enough information to try it successfully until Wikimania 2018. I translated the French-language Wikipedia article on w:Julia Cagé into English, and an obstacle to translating it further into Spanish is translating the references. If they were all in Wikidata, no translation would be necessary. This and similar examples suggest to me that Wikidata could be much more valuable if it could address the quality concerns expressed by many Wikimedians, e.g., in the "Discussion" summary of the "Request for Comments" about the use if Wikidata in Infoboxes in Wikipedia.

[edit]Is there any system for coordinating housing/accommodations if one is looking to share a room with another editor? It would help make things more affordable. Thanks for any information you can provide. Liz (talk) 21:29, 24 February 2019 (UTC)

[edit]Hi, is there a mistake in "User:La_Mantisv"? There's no such user, maybe without a "v"? Stryn (talk) 10:35, 29 May 2019 (UTC)
