Abuse filter question — use of set for integers
Seeking your assistance with s:AbuseFilter/8. It has been written incorrectly to try to capture the talk nss. I tried to use the set function by trying a list as
artns := (1|3|5|7|9|11|13|15|101|103|105|107|115|829); and variations [1, 3, 5, ...];.
I can get it working article_namespace = artns for a single value in a list but cannot get it working with multiple value lists. Can you please give me some guidance, and when I get it working I will attempt to give a decent answer into the help pages. Thanks. Please ping me if you answer. — billinghurst sDrewth 22:05, 31 December 2015 (UTC)
- @Billinghurst: It should work like namespaces := [ 1, 3, 5, … ]; … namespaces contains article_namespace, but I haven't tested it. It could be that AbuseFilter internally converts the list to some kind of string in order to do the matching which could lead to false positives. - Hoo man (talk) 20:19, 5 January 2016 (UTC)
IP is Blocked
Hi, I was going to make a correction regarding the availability of another Bergakyrkan, and my jaw dropped as I read that I am blocked until 2018. I don't have a clue why, unless it's because I now use VPN (since I have no choice because I am in China). I have NEVER sent spam! I don't send ANY unsolicited email, nor do I send bulk mail of any kind whatsoever. This is a tragicomic joke. Something is obviously very wrong here. Please correct, or get back to me. This is not right. At least I deserve to know why. — The preceding unsigned comment was added by 168.1.76.242 (talk) 09:41, 7 January 2016 (UTC)
- The block of that range was meant for other (misbehaving) users of the VPN service you are using. In order to be able to edit Wikipedia, you can just create an account on this wiki, as the blocks mentioned by you don't apply here (that's also why you were able to edit this page). You can do this by going to Special:UserLogin/signup. That account will be global, thus you can just use it on Wikipedia and on all other sister projects. Cheers, Hoo man (talk) 11:19, 7 January 2016 (UTC)
Thanks. I really appreciate this information. — The preceding unsigned comment was added by 168.1.76.242 (talk) 03:37, 8 January 2016 (UTC)

Also, WIWOSM object for this article is longer found, unlike on dewiki, which uses modified version of the script. How to fix? Thanks! 90.191.109.9 09:34, 14 January 2016 (UTC)

Gurage sometimes experience spirit possession?
Hello, Hoo
I am from Ethiopia and I want to talk to you about the gurage wiki page you made about the spirit possession. This thing you mentioned is not from gurage tribe and culture and I want you to remove it this is from other ethnic group form Ethiopia and which you can research on and I can provide you if you want to. I strongly recommend you to remove this subject and replace it with other gurage culture. Tagger
Hello hoo, recently I upgraded to Windows 10 on my computer and after upgrading it seems like I can't use your tagger script anymore. It says "Error: Invalid token" and nothing more. For now I did a rollback and it seems to solve the above problem. The configuration of my browser hasn't changed when upgrading (so addons, etc. are still the same). Could you please take a look at this? I would greatly apreciate it. Kind regards, Wiki13 talk 14:51, 15 February 2016 (UTC)

IP Exemption
Hello! I tried to add the "{{unblock| reason=Requesting an IP address block exemption, because (your reason here). ~~~~}}" to my talk page to request an exemption, but it wouldn't even let me edit my own talk page. I have to connect through a VPN now and I'm requesting an exemption. I have been a member since 2011 and have never once been accused of vandalism of any sort. Please consider my respectful request to allow this account to edit from blocked IP ranges. Thank you. - Scottwindcrest (talk) 03:25, 28 January 2016 (UTC)
- @Scottwindcrest: Can you tell me which block you are having problems with (that is mentioned in the block message you see when you are hindered from editing)? I can probably make the block in question apply to logged out users only, so that you can then edit Wikipedia (and other Wikimedia sites) using your account. Cheers, Hoo man (talk) 11:53, 28 January 2016 (UTC)
- Thank you for considering my request! The message I get is "Your IP address is in a range which has been blocked on all wikis. The block was made by Hoo man (meta.wikimedia.org). - Hello again. I hate to be a pain, but I appear to still be blocked. This time by User:KrakatoaKatie, the message was "The IP address that you are currently using has been blocked because it is believed to be a web host provider. To prevent abuse, web hosts may be blocked from editing Wikipedia." I tried to leave a message on her talk page, but I was unable to do so (blocked). This appears to be one of the only pages I can type on. Like I said before, I am on this VPN now. If possible, could you please exempt my account from this block? Thank you again for considering my respectful request, and I am sorry for taking up your time. - Scottwindcrest (talk) 18:57, 20 February 2016 (UTC)
- @Scottwindcrest: I'm sorry for the inconvenience, but I don't have enough details regarding the block in question to act here. Given the block has been created by an English Wikipedia administrator it's a local block which I can't help you with (as local blocks are fully controlled by the individual communities). You have two options here: Talk to the user who created the local block and try to resolve it with them or go to en:Wikipedia:IP block exemption and ask for a general exemption from such blocks. Greetings, Hoo man. Thanks for your helpful comment to Ema Shah above. I have the same problem. After 6 years as an editor here I can't even change my own talk page.
I don't understand the process you specified above to Ema Shah. Please give detailed step-by-step instructions for me to study.
Please note that there is a pressing reason why I use a VPN. I went through a process of being approved to do that on WP. Are you proposing I start all over again with a new account and a different username?

Dear, Hoo man
I have only ever added links to pages on Wikapidea. One day when I checked in it said I have left spam, though I only added links to other pages. Can you please get my ban removed or at least explained so I don't do it again, thanks.

Hi Hoo. Sorry but I don't know who to ask. Could you please have a look at the script in the heading of the message? As you might be aware, it always fails (loads indefinitely) on global accounts with just one account attached, and intermitently on projects such as meta. I have a request queued to hide +40 abusive names prior to SUL finalisation, and it's being a pain having to go to the wiki concerned and change manually the block settings. Thank you for your assistance. Best regards, —MarcoAurelio 19:04, 23 February 2016 (UTC)

Why do you block me? Your blocking reason was: Cross-wiki spam: Hoster / VPN service. Yes, i use VPN but that should be no reason to block me as i was/am logged in and not anonymous user. --Walta (talk) 09:19, 1 March 2016 (UTC)

Confirmation discussions
Dear Hoo man,
As you probably know, the confirmation discussions for Stewards have been closed. In order to determine the outcome of these discussions, you are invited to comment on Talk:Stewards/Confirm/2016 before scheduled closure of the confirmation section "one week after the appointment of the newly elected stewards" (Sunday 6th of March, 17:22 UTC), though the closing time might be extended at the ElectCom's discretion for an extra week if it is believed "further input is required before concluding". All stewards are welcome to comment, including those newly elected.
For those who ran for confirmation, consider revising comments regarding you, and replying to those where appropriate. Savhñ 08:01, 4 March 2016 (UTC)
My VPN has been blocked
I'm using Private Internet Access, and you have a range of IPs blocked that include those exits.
I see that you've modified those rules for others, changing it to only block unauthenticated users, and I'd like to ask you to do the same here.
I have all of my traffic directed to the VPN on my router, so it's not a simple matter of turning off that protection just to post/comment here on Wikipedia, and I don't think it's necessary for me to subject myself to privacy intrusion by having the VPN disabled.
The error message I get is below:
You do not have permission to create this talk page, for the following reason:

Request for Input - New Central Notice request process
Hello!
Back in February I emailed the CN-admin list regarding part of my role to look into the Central Notice process and see where we could make improvements including: the campaign process; its functionality or lack thereof; and fundamentally the documentation that supports it. You can see many of the issues that I identified at CentralNotice/Process_Review. If there is anything additional that you feel has been left out then please feel free to leave any comments on the talk page.
My first task is to improve the requesting of campaigns by communities and affiliates. I am looking to set up a more formal request process, similar to those used in many projects. The aim is to: increase the transparency of Central Notice; improve the support provided to affiliates (including making such support more consistent); to provide a forum for community input into campaigns.
I have been working on a very rough strawman version of the process and I would be interested in hearing you comments about what such a process should involve and what you think it would require. Please feel free to leave such comments at the process talk page section. I would like to have a working page in place by the end of May. This would not need to be a final version. The process can be improved upon over time as we learn about how well it works.
Given your role as a Meta Administrator who is active in the area of Central Notice, I encourage you to:
- Review the strawman request page and request template and make changes as you feel necessary
- Leave comments
- Join the centralnotice-admins mailing list
- Feel free to contact me to discuss this further via: my talk page, jseddonwikimedia.org or on IRC (Nick: Seddon)
Regards
Jseddon (WMF) (talk) Advancement Associate (Community Engagement) -- 03:01, 28 April 2016 (UTC)
- Hey @Hoo man:. I just wanted see whether you would be interested in giving any input to a request process for Central Notice. It'll be a requirement of all campaigns on Central Notice to go through it and for me it's really important to get input of the other CN Admins and Meta Admins. It wont be set in stone so we can make changes as we go on but I'd love for it to get off to a smooth start. My plan is to get something in place in the next few weeks so please feel free to Leave comments. Jseddon (WMF) (talk) 03:06, 19 May 2016 (UTC)
- Hi @Jseddon:. To request a right of global sysop, is need a proces of select a role (carer), beccause the globals sysops or stewards, works in the company of Wikimedia, (global sysop is not only the Wikimedia edits, is a work) and is a work like others works. First, you need a select proces to enter in a one work of the Wikimedia Works. But in the company of Wikimedia, exist others works avaible, (not only the develompent of the comunities). In the company, exist the works of the design, the marketing... And others works, you can select a one work of the all works avaible in the carer pages. You are working now in Wikimedia? Very good! But, you need now all the right of steward to work? OK, you can request now the right of steward, very good. But later of finish the proces of select the work, technicaly you are steward.
You can contact now with me:
- In my talk
- IRC (I'm in IRC in the morning of America) (Nick: Dorami-Doraemon).

( new_wikitext rlike '\b[a-k]{16}\n' /* meine Ergänzung */ | new_wikitext rlike '\b[a-k]{16}$' /* die vom gl. Filter 90 */ ) & user_age = 0

Grüße, Hoo man (talk) 15:52, 19 October 2016 (UTC)

- Hoo man (talk) 06:37, 28 October 2016 (UTC)
- Das ist ein Gedanke; dann können sie natürlich nicht erkennen, dass es gar nicht gespeichert wird. -- Juetho (talk) 17:04, 28 October 2016 (UTC)
Ip block
You Ip blocked me,and I'm contacting you based on the help page. Apparently it's because of my VPN? I changed VPN since the date the block was made, so please unblock me 159.122.133.216 15:04, 28 October 2016 (UTC)
- As we see a lot of abuse occurring from VPNs, we sometimes need to (temporarily) block them from (logged out) editing. In order to be able to edit Wikipedia (and any other Wikimedia wikis), you can just create an account on this wiki, as the blocks mentioned by you don't apply here (that's also why you were able to edit this page). You can do this by going to Special:UserLogin/signup. That account will be global, thus you can just use it on Wikipedia and on all other sister projects. A global renaming request with almost 50000 edits
Hello Hoo man,
Could you please have a look at this request? This user almost reaches the 50000 edits barrier, and I'd rather see you, as a sysadmin, handle his request. Thank you! Litlok (talk) 07:42, 2 November 2016 (UTC)

No renaming between November 20 and November 27
Hi,
You’re getting this because you’re a steward or global renamer. The Community Tech team are working on cross-wiki watchlists. We need to add a couple of fields to the localuser table in centralauth database. In order to be able to do this, we’d need to run a script that will get in the way of renaming users. Our apologies – we realize this is getting in the way of your work.
We ask that you do not rename anyone between 00:00 November 20 (UTC) and 00:00 November 27 (UTC).
(UTC means that if you live in the Americas, it will be on the evening or afternoon of November 19 when the script starts running, and if you live in Oceania or eastern Asia, it can be closer midday on November 27 before we can be sure the script is no longer running.)
If there are any problems related to this, or you have any questions, please write me on my talk page. /Johan (WMF) (talk) via MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 19:39, 17 November 2016 (UTC)
Blocked from Editing?
Hi there!
I recently attempted to edit a wiki article, but I was unable to because it said I'm blocked for VPN use until October 2018? Why??? I've never done any spam on here, I only contribute to articles! If it's a matter of using a VPN, well that's kind of an issue because I can't turn it off due to the open nature of my apartment internet provider making it unsafe for me to do anything with personal data.
Is there any way to unblock me? I see on other comments you mention something about an account. Do I have to make a Wiki account to continue contributing? Is there no other way to fix the problem? — The preceding unsigned comment was added by 2001:590:1405:f9:f9:1cca:fb54:2f4d (talk) 05:45, 13 December 2016 (UTC)
- Sadly there's no other way (although you might find location from your VPN provider that are not currently blocked). The problem is, that we see a lot of abuse occurring from VPNs, we sometimes need to (temporarily) block them from (logged out) editing. Cheers, Hoo man (talk) 10:20, 13 December 2016 (UTC)
