Dear Hoo Man, I just want to thank you for approving my OAuth consumers for the video editing server application. In case you have had any concerns about my trust-worthiness, please take a look at my FOSS reputation: https://www.openhub.net/accounts/ddennedy — The preceding unsigned comment was added by Ddennedy (talk) 17:24, 15 January 2015 (UTC)Reply

help for Sanskrit Wikipedia

Hi Hoo man ! Our community is very small. But our goals are very big and realistic. I am an editor of Sanskrit Wikipedia and I want some help from you. I know you are not familiar with Sanskrit. I will be there for Sanskrit related work. You have lots of experiences about wikipedia. So I want some help from you.

1. How to manage wikipedia ? What are the basic things which sourly have to in wikipedia ?

2. In sa.wikipedia there is noting much more easy or attractive. Because our community is so small and we have not enough technical knowledge. @Nickk: this template is available every wikipedia. Even Konkan wikipedia also have this. But I don't know How to import this in sa.wikipedia. This is only an example. There are so many things to do?

3. I know that some sort cuts of wikipedia we have to know. But we don't know sort cuts of wikipedia. Like if one word is wrong in all pages of wikipedia, than how to exchange that word with other correct word?

4. How we can increase our speed on wikipedia. What are the steps to speed up this sa.wikipedia project?

Please help me..... NehalDaveND (talk) 06:03, 22 January 2015 (UTC)Reply

Hi, I'll try to reply to your questions one by one below.
  1. Well, this is a pretty general question... most important is probably to just watch what comes up, and deal with that. If you have a more specific question, feel free to ask.
  2. An administrator can use विशेषम्:आयात to import templates from enwiki (and possibly other wikis). Just ask an sawiki administrators to do that for you.
  3. You have to be more specific here: What do you want to simplify/ do faster? There are a lot of tools and templates larger Wikis use, if you mean that.
  4. Do you mean increase the number of contributions? I honestly don't know, beyond trying to be friendly to new users and things like that.

Strange thing

Hi! I wonder what may be the cause for my scripts to have stopped working on all es.* projects. I have tried everything that came to my mind: clearing caché, blanking the js pages and enabling them individually to see if they worked, cookie cleaning, AdBlock disabling, etc. and I don't get them to work. I don't know where to look further but the scripts do load from my global.js page. If you could please guide me or have a look I'll be very grateful. I have verified that JS is not disabled on my browser. Best regards, -- M\A 17:16, 28 January 2015 (UTC)Reply

Hi again. Melos and me worked out this on IRC. It seems that User:Mike.lifeguard/removeSpam.js caused the issues. They're working again now. I noted, howeved, that on the error console I got some jQuery errors comming from bits.wikimedia. I didn't tested again after my scripts worked again, but I can do it if you want. Best regards, -- M\A 00:00, 29 January 2015 (UTC)Reply
These are probably coming from outdated gadgets. I might be able to have a look at that (depends on how much time I have) if you give me the error logs. Please remember to use &debug=true for that so that we get actually usable output. Cheers, Hoo man (talk) 14:11, 29 January 2015 (UTC)Reply
Hi. Done as suggested. I have activated MediaWiki:Gadget-markblocked.js on my User:MarcoAurelio/global.js and the scripts stopped working again on all spanish-language projects. Here is the data from my error console. Best regards, -- M\A 15:34, 29 January 2015 (UTC)Reply
Easiest would be to just not use that gadget... bringing it into a proper state would need quite some time, given how many bad things it does. I can do that, but I doubt I'll find the time this week end. - Hoo man (talk) 14:56, 30 January 2015 (UTC)Reply

Global CSS/JS migration

Hello Hoo man. You have global scripts in global.js, which you import using your local CSS/JS pages. Since August 2014, your global.js and global.css pages are loaded automatically on all wikis. Since you already import them yourself, you may experience script errors or tools being added twice. I can remove the global imports from your local pages using Synchbot (without touching other scripts). Do you want me to do that? —Pathoschild 23:10, 21 June 2015 (UTC)

Wikimania + infoboxes

Hi Hoo man! I've just seen your scheduled talk at Wikimania at [1], which looks very interesting! I'm planning on attending it. I've also been working on infoboxes via wikidata recently, but using a somewhat different approach, namely using en:Module:Wikidata to wikidata-ify en:Template:Infobox telescope: see en:South Pole Telescope for an example in action. Perhaps you could mention this during your presentation, and cover some of the similarities and differences between our approaches? Thanks. Mike Peel (talk) 19:12, 30 June 2015 (UTC)Reply

This is a message from the Wikimedia Foundation. Translations are available.

As you may know, the Wikimedia Foundation Board of Trustees approved a new "Access to nonpublic information policy" on 25 April 2014 after a community consultation. The former policy has remained in place until the new policy could be implemented. That implementation work is now being done, and we are beginning the transition to the new policy.

An important part of that transition is helping volunteers like you sign the required confidentiality agreement. All Wikimedia volunteers with access to nonpublic information are required to sign this new agreement, and we have prepared some documentation to help you do so.

The Wikimedia Foundation is requiring that anyone with access to nonpublic information sign the new confidentiality agreement by 15 December 2015 (OTRS users have until 22 December 2015) to retain their access. You are receiving this email because you have access to nonpublic information and are required to sign the confidentiality agreement under the new policy.

Signing the confidentiality agreement for nonpublic information is conducted and tracked using Legalpad on Phabricator. The general confidentiality agreement is now ready, and the OTRS agreement will be ready after 22 September 2015. We have prepared a guide on Meta-Wiki to help you create your Phabricator account and sign the new agreement: Confidentiality agreement for nonpublic information/How to sign

If you have any questions or experience any problems while signing the new agreement, please visit this talk page or email me (gvarnum(_AT_)wikimedia.org). Again, please sign this confidentiality agreement by 15 December 2015 (OTRS users have until 22 December 2015) to retain your access to nonpublic information. If you do not wish to retain this access, please let me know and we will forward your request to the appropriate individuals.

Thank you,
Gregory Varnum (User:GVarnum-WMF), Wikimedia Foundation

Hi

I have nothing to do with spambots or Hoster. I have had editing access to Wikipedia for several years. As a retired librarian I have occasionally corrected and added bibliographies to book illustrators.I am also a contributor to Wikipedia as its a great source of free knowledge for everyone. As a private person I do not understand WHY I have been blocked. Please could you check and hopefully remove the block - or advise on further action.

Hi,

I wanted to donate but first create a user account. My IP [xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx (edited 07-10-2015)] is blocked... Why? I'm not a spammer. About your action to delete Wiikidata page Q21596926 without any notification

Hi, you have deleted a wikidata page I created for Athanassios I. Hatzis without prior notification and without any discussion. I did not have any chance to make any claim on notability. How is it that a page of a computer scientist with a PhD, an academic record and a full LinkedIn profile is not considered notable ? In my opinion it fully meets the following criteria you set on Wikidata:Notability

"It refers to an instance of a clearly identifiable conceptual or material entity. The entity must be notable, in the sense that it can be described using serious and publicly available references. If there is no item about you yet, you are probably not notable."

> This page has been deleted. The deletion and move log for the page are provided below for reference. > 10:17, 2 December 2015 Hoo man (talk | contribs) deleted page Q21596926 (Does not meet the notability policy)

Healis (talk) 14:34, 2 December 2015 (UTC)Reply

The item which I deleted didn't cite any external references describing the subject, but that is a clear requirement (as is being described in one of the sentences you quote above). Please note that a source under that definition shouldn't be user generated content created by the item's subject himself (like a LinkedIn profile). Joseph Cohen from Birmingham UK - 22nd June 1889 - 1980

Hello I have been blocked by you and have no idea why. Please help I thought it might be because I have used a VPN, but I still find from my home now in Switzerland that I am blocked. I have managed to write only on my User page Sandbox John_Neville_Cohen https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:John_Neville_Cohen/sandbox about my late Grandfather Joseph Cohen that I believe should be included in Wikipedia. There is already another Joseph Cohen (no relation) listed and I do not know how to have my Joseph Cohen added. But I now find that I can not even edit a link that is not working. I wish to add a link that is http://www.jncohen.net/JaceyGroup/JC-Press.htm to replace http://www.jncohen.net/private-albums/tree/Certifts/notes004.htm that will not work without my password that I do not wish to make available.

Since I sent the above I seem to have lost my User page and Sandbox. I really need some help as I am finding this is all very complicated. I do have lots of information about my Joseph Cohen that now seems to have gone! I could provide details to an editor to assist me but do not know how to do this either. If you tell me the block which directly affects you, I can change it so that it only affects anonymous users. You will not be able to edit Wikipedia using a web host provider. Since the web host acts like a proxy, because it hides your IP address, it has been blocked. To prevent abuse, these IPs may be blocked from editing Wikipedia. If you do not have any other way to edit Wikipedia, you will need to request an IP block exemption.

If you do not believe you are using a web host, you may appeal this block by adding the following text on your talk page: {{unblock|reason=Caught by a web host block but this host or IP is not a web host. Place any further information here. [[User:John Neville Cohen|John Neville Cohen]] ([[User talk:John Neville Cohen|talk]]) 13:56, 24 December 2015 (UTC)}}. If you are using a Wikipedia account you will need to request an IP block exemption by either using the unblock template or by submitting an appealing using the unblock ticket request system. If you wish to keep your IP address private you can email the functionaries team.

Administrators: The IP block exemption user right should only be applied to allow users to edit using web host in exceptional circumstances, and they should usually be directed to the functionaries team via email. If you intend to give the IPBE user right, a CheckUser needs to take a look at the account. This can be requested most easily at SPI Quick Checkuser Requests. Unblocking an IP or IP range with this template is highly discouraged without at least contacting the blocking administrator. — The preceding unsigned comment was added by John Neville Cohen (talk) 13:56, 24 December 2015 (UTC)Reply

That IP is blocked locally on the English Wikipedia, thus the exemption needs to be handled there. If you want to keep using your VPN service, you can request an exemption from IP blocks as lined out on en:Wikipedia:IP block exemption. Cheers, Hoo man (talk) 15:42, 24 December 2015 (UTC)Reply

Regarding bot on Bhojpuri wikipedia (bh.wikipedia)

Hello! I am local admin (temp) at Bhojpuri wikipedia (bh.wikipedia) and need a bot flag for bh:User:Satyam002bot. Need for this tool place as some days ago I was sorting stub articles using en:WP:AWB. A friend suggested me to do such numerous edits by bot account. Therefore, I made a formal request here. But we don't have community there. I just need to know if I can ask for such a bot account flag ? --Satyam Mishra --talk-- 21:49, 28 December 2015 (UTC)Reply
