Thanks!

Thank you for helping ug.wiktionary to remove content. I want to know how to become an administrator?

Because there are many problems to be solved. For example: Restored several MediaWiki: file. Require an import permission. The need to protect the Module and Template Files. Etc. Thank you --Oyunqi (talk) 05:57, 31 December 2013 (UTC)Reply

Hi, you're welcome! (Temporary) adminship can be requested on Steward requests/Permissions, where you should start by asking for a temporary flag. - Hoo man (talk) 11:27, 31 December 2013 (UTC)Reply
I'm going to try,thank you again. --Oyunqi (talk) 22:44, 1 January 2014 (UTC)Reply

Hoo Bot on bs.wiki

Thanks for letting me know about Hoo Bot. Currently my script is working fine, so there is actually no need for Hoo Bot to work on that anymore. However, if you insist, which is also fine, you can pick up where you left and continue updating the picture. Furthermore, in my current script I have added the possibility of adding an image description (if available in Bosnian) from commons. So you would need to update your code if you haven't already done so. Note also that I have set the protection level of that page from "sysop" to "autoconfirmed" (offering enough protection in my opinion), which means that Hoo Bot does not need an admin flag anymore. I would therefore suggest to remove it. If you agree let me know so we can take care of it. -- Edinwiki (talk) 12:49, 3 January 2014 (UTC)Reply

I've just disabled the cron job for the bot and will get the sysop flag removed. In case you need help again, just ping me. Cheers, Hoo man (talk) 11:14, 5 January 2014 (UTC)Reply

Congratulations!

Hello Hoo man,

On behalf of the stewards' election committee, congratulations on your election as a steward! Your permissions have now been set and you are able to start working.

You have been added to the list of stewards and the stewards' chart. Please take a moment to check that your details are accurate and update them if necessary.

You have been given access to the mailing lists related to your steward duties, which include: checkuser-l, the private mailing list for Wikimedia checkusers, stewards-l, the private list for stewards. In addition, you have been or will be given access to the related private wikis, one for checkusers and the other solely for stewards, details of which will be provided.

If you use IRC, you will be given access to several channels, including #wikimedia-checkuserconnect and #wikimedia-privacyconnect. Please also idle in #wikimedia-stewardsconnect when you are available for duty.

Best of luck with your new tools; I am sure you will do a fantastic job. Please remember that your fellow stewards are always available if you need a second opinion, either via the mailing list or on IRC.

Request for feedback on my GSoC'14 proposal

Hi Hoo man,

I am planning to work on the project titled "Tools for mass migration of legacy translated wiki content" this summer under Google Summer of Code. I have drafted a proposal for the same over the past few weeks. This project is going to help the translation adminstrators like you in a great way, as it would completely automate the tedious manual task of preparing a page for translation and then importing the translations into the Translate extension. You can check the proposal page for detailed information on how I plan to accomplish this.

As you would be an end user of this tool, it would be great if you could go through the proposal and provide feedback/suggestions. Your feedback would definitely help me improve the proposal as well help in creating an even better tool. You can do the same on the discussion page of the proposal or reply here, whichever is convenient for you. I look forward to hearing from you! Thank you!

P.S: I need to submit the proposal to Google by March 19, 2014.

Do you realize that Pathoschild's tool is also discontinued? I'm going on vacation, but I could look at taking it over in a few days when I get back. Ajraddatz (talk) 18:11, 25 April 2014 (UTC)Reply

Yes, I do... but I no longer am really willing to do this (and neither seems Tanvir), so that I just had to pull the plug. Feel free to take it over or do whatever you want with it. - Hoo man (talk) 18:12, 25 April 2014 (UTC)Reply

Hi. Please either disable this or make it match \b[a-k]{16}$. It seems to use a different code every time. It might have even stopped (maybe Aldnonymous would know, but I haven't been in #cvn-sw much recently). Thanks. PiRSquared17 (talk) 03:46, 30 April 2014 (UTC)Reply

You mean what you told me on #wikimedia-stewards? A request!

Hi Hoo man, Our colleague on Ar Wiki User:Elph, experienced a problem, his account was hacked a couple of days ago and I have requested removing his sysop, bureaucrat and check user rights and have banned him upon his request. Now he wants to set this email address abbasalhelfy@gmail.com as his account email address instead of the old one. Can you help us doing so? Hoo bot on wikidata

Hi Hoo man, A bot operated by you with user name Hoo Bot have removed a lot of wikidata links. So, now it is difficult to go to one wiki to another wiki. I came to know when I was going from Hindi wiki (hiwiki) page आचार्य तुलसी to Acharya Tulsi. Now I have fixed this one page but it will be a problem if the same happened with many pages. Please take some fast action.☆★Sanjeev Kumar (talk) 11:49, 26 May 2014 (UTC)Reply

Removal from spam blacklist

Hi. Thanks for cleaning up the spam blacklist. However, it seems that at least one entry you removed (namely \bdurl\.me\b for durl.me) was still online. How did get the list of entries to remove? PiRSquared17 (talk) 02:44, 28 May 2014 (UTC)Reply

That entry was on the list twice, so my script removed one instance. (Note: This is why I just reverted my changes, before I noticed it was removed because it was listed twice) - Hoo man (talk) 02:53, 28 May 2014 (UTC)Reply
Oh, sorry. Didn't notice that... PiRSquared17 (talk) 03:00, 28 May 2014 (UTC)Reply

I am sorry, I have reverted it for now. I think this needs prior discussion. First, some of the sites could be temporarily down, secondly, that they are down does not mean they can not be (ab)used (or even were abused when inactive - I could foresee cases where that is possible). I am also afraid that some of these will be resulting in squatting-cases (where the link goes to a place where either the traffic is valorised or for advertising purposes).

I do however see the concern that the list is very long, and maybe should be cleansed to upgrade usability / parsing speed (though I doubt that it is putting a large strain). --Dirk Beetstra T C (en: U, T) 05:59, 28 May 2014 (UTC)Reply

Ok, thus I'll stop doing this. Please note that I've done this several times before (and each time removed much more domain names). Also please note that I use soa lookups, not a type ones. - Hoo man (talk) 14:14, 28 May 2014 (UTC)Reply
That is not what I meant, Hoo man - I'd just prefer that it gets first listed for some time to allow for discussion. Although most of the domains that you remove are really the base-domains, which can easily be scripted, some rules are out to catch something wider ('\ba\.com\b' could be for 'http://something-a.com' and 'http://somethingelse-a.com'), etc. I just think that these removals should be suggested for removal first, left for 1-2 weeks to allow people to have a look at it and see if they recognise why something was added, and then removed. I do value the cleanup (per the second part of my previous remark), the list is way too long and likely catching stuff that does not need to be caught anymore. --Dirk Beetstra T C (en: U, T) 06:56, 29 May 2014 (UTC)Reply

Bytes tool

Hello! I just saw this tool and I was wondering if it's possible to see how many bytes are been added/removed on a single page by a specific user. Or, even better, a kind of merging with this other tool, in which I could see the list of users ordered by the number of bytes added/removed in a specific page. I wish I've been quite clear.

Please answer on my it.wiki talk page. Thank you, --Horcrux92 (talk) 10:36, 21 June 2014 (UTC)Reply

Hi Hoo man, I am admin on Hindi wikipedia. There some-one abused some users from two different IP's. I have blocked those IP's but is it possible to test those IP's. I mean which user is using those IP's? ☆★Sanjeev Kumar (talk) 07:27, 7 July 2014 (UTC)Reply

Such a check is possible, yes. For this to happen you have to open a request at Steward requests/Checkuser. Cheers, Hoo man (talk) 17:14, 7 July 2014 (UTC)Reply
But to make a request at Steward requests/Checkuser, I have to give possible user's name. Isn't it?☆★Sanjeev Kumar (talk) 17:29, 7 July 2014 (UTC)Reply

Need help again

Hi, On the request of some users of bhwiki, I wanna update those templates, for this purpose I need Import rights on bhwiki. What should I do for Import rights on bhwiki?☆★Sanjeev Kumar (talk) 18:35, 11 July 2014 (UTC)Reply

From which Wiki do you want to import pages? It might be a good idea to configure the Wikis you need to import from as import sources, so that administrators can import pages from them (that requires community consensus, but import rights do so as well). - Hoo man (talk) 13:03, 12 July 2014 (UTC)Reply
I would like to import from hiwiki and enwiki. I am admin on hiwiki but I didn't do any work on bhwik, so I can't ask for admin rights on bhwiki but I can ask there for import rights. So, shall I start a discussion on that wiki?☆★Sanjeev Kumar (talk) 13:48, 12 July 2014 (UTC)Reply
You could still ask for the "Transwiki importers" group which gives you the same import rights as Administrators have. But that would still require some community consensus (same goes for the configuration change) - Hoo man (talk) 19:18, 12 July 2014 (UTC)Reply
Thanks, I am starting a community consensus on bhwiki.☆★Sanjeev Kumar (talk) 02:13, 13 July 2014 (UTC)Reply
Hi again, I started a community consensus on bhwiki at village pump for Transwiki importers rights. Two users supported me, if it is sufficient then please give me corresponding rights on bhwiki or please let me know, what else I have to do?☆★Sanjeev Kumar (talk) 14:10, 17 July 2014 (UTC)Reply
For getting the actual rights, please go to Steward requests/Permissions, I can't do that per talk page request. Regarding what else to do: You have to quickly ask for consensus to add wikis to $wgImportSources, so that you can import from them (please make sure you ask for all wikis you want to import from, so that you don't have to do that twice). After that I can take care of the actual configuration change for you. Cheers, Hoo man (talk) 08:55, 18 July 2014 (UTC)Reply

Other configurations of bhwiki

Hi Hoo man, On bhwiki, there are many problems like: w:bh:wikipedia:चौपाल shoud go to "https://bh.wikipedia.org/wiki/विकिपीडिया:चौपाल" but it going directly to enwiki. Similary, We want that https://bh.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Import should go to https://bh.wikipedia.org/wiki/विशेष:आयात. Can you please configure these also?☆★Sanjeev Kumar (talk) 10:08, 29 July 2014 (UTC)Reply

Other this are also needed are like short forms: U:Name goes to User:Name, WP:Page goes to Wikipedia:Page etc.

One another problem I faced is:

Import failed: Can't save non-default content model with $wgContentHandlerUseDB disabled: model is wikitext, default for Module:Message_box is Scribunto

☆★Sanjeev Kumar (talk) 18:17, 29 July 2014 (UTC)Reply

Sorry for the late reply, but I've been travelling and attending Wikimania recently. I'm going to answer one by one below. If I miss something feel free to ask.
  • Having Wikipedia as namespace alias to विकिपीडिया requires a configuration change for which you need consensus/ inform the community.
  • The translation of special page names has to be done in MediaWiki core. I guess I can do that for you, if you create a bug on bugzilla.
  • Imports of Modules have to be targeted to the Module: namespace, if you select it as import target namespace, the import should work.
- Hoo man (talk) 09:55, 8 August 2014 (UTC)Reply
Again, On other wikipedia's (like hiwiki, enwiki, meta etc) <table class="metadata plainlinks ambox {{{class|}}}" style="{{{style|}}}" role="presentation"><tr><td>test</td></tr></table> gives me a box. But on bhwiki, there is no box. Why is it not coming properly. Can you please configure it?☆★Sanjeev Kumar (talk) 20:07, 29 July 2014 (UTC)Reply
A CSS rule is missing here, if you want I can find that and add it to bhwiki's common.css
- Hoo man (talk) 09:55, 8 August 2014 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for your kind help.
  • For first topic, I will start a consensus on bhwiki and after I will let you know. If I have to post somewhere else, please let me know.
  • I didn't create any bug on bugzilla. Today, I tried then I forwarded to the page https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/enter_bug.cgi . So, I wanna know, which type of bug I have to create?
  • I forgot the issue about import module. I will check it on bhwiki and let you know.
Can you please fix the CSS missing rule on bhwiki. With many thanks ☆★Sanjeev Kumar (talk) 11:18, 8 August 2014 (UTC)Reply
I've added the CSS rule, which you need (I hope that's all, if there's more needed, just let me know). Translating the special page names can be done on translatewiki, you don't need to create a bug (sorry, I had that wrong first). Once you have consensus for the namespace aliases, just let me know. - Hoo man (talk) 10:45, 10 August 2014 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for adding css rule. We also have updated it according to our requirement. On transwiki, I couldn't find special page names. We are making a list of required namspace aliases. After that we will do consensus and let you know. Thanks for kind help.☆★Sanjeev Kumar (talk) 13:03, 10 August 2014 (UTC)Reply
Use the link to translatewiki I've listed above, with that you will be able to translate the special page names (if you have the required permissions on translatewiki). - Hoo man (talk) 16:16, 10 August 2014 (UTC)Reply
Today, I got the write permission on translatewiki and I am able to edit that page. I have submitted few things but I think it will take some time in purge.☆★Sanjeev Kumar (talk) 16:43, 10 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

Special:AbuseFilter/90 (2)

Hi Hoo man, while browsing the Global abuse filters (in this case Special:AbuseLog/57149), I saw text which looked very close to what filter 90 should catch, it was added in https://sr.wikibooks.org/w/index.php?diff=18263&oldid=18262 and as far as I can tell it should have been caught by your filter (" ffeededabgbcafec\n").

I can think of several explanations:

  1. sr.wikibooks.org opted in during the last 5 days
  2. filter 90 was disabled on December 3
    1. because it hadn't caught much spam lately, but there were false positives
    2. because all filters were temporarily disabled (e.g. processor overload)
    3. for other reasons
  3. I didn't interprete the rule correctly
  4. index.php sanitizes the output of the diff
  5. other reasons which I overlooked.

help pls

Hi; I am a student in Başkent University. ip 212.156.67.30 is used by Başkent Üniversitesi in Turkey. But it was blocked in Turkish wikipedia for unlimited time. block begins: 23:15, 6 Feb. 2011. Since that time whole university can not make any edits in Turkish wikipedia. We university students want to edit turkish wikipedia. Local adminstrators say they are very angry with an old time user and they dont unblock th i.p. and they punish a whole university. It has been a long time and probably the person that makes them angry is graduate by now. Thank you for help. — The preceding unsigned comment was added by 212.156.67.30 (talk) 07:41, 17 December 2014 (UTC)Reply
