Hej Finnrind! Thanks for translating, I've asked Laaknor to review your translation -- would you mind reviewing the one that (s)he worked on? m:Fundraising 2008/Stories/nb Thanks! Cbrown1023 talk 22:49, 25 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

I'll have a look at it, I also posted what became a rather long request for proofreading at no:Wikipedia:Torget#Incorporate.2C_hjelp_til_oversettelse, it's now becoming a rather strange discourse about in-corporated vs un-corporated ;o)

Hello Finnrind, that page seems to be a good candidate for the spam-blacklist, last resort, yes, but clearly for crosswiki-spam. Thanks for quick reply. I had a doubt about it, and hence have already done translation of them as well, but am really not sure whether we need translation of the alst point as well? And furthermore, in other lenguages, e.g. Hindi (hi), there are not those two messeges there, but still they are published, then why Gujarati was marked as Need updating? Maybe you should have raised a discussion, at least in our Bg village pump, instead of deleting the links. At least I find them absolutely relevant, informative and adequate to the articles where they were included. The links contain collections of rare PD-old or close to PD-old materials, and only the annoying presence of watermarks makes them inappropriate for Wikimedia Commons... Spiritia 14:12, 26 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

i reverted my removal at bg.wiki. The links were removed because they had been inappropriately added cross wiki (linkpushed by ip), and will not be blacklisted unless there is continued persistent crosswiki linkpushing. Regards, Finn Rindahl 15:16, 26 March 2009 (UTC)Reply
Okay, thanks. By the way, mass spammers have no chance with our wiki, the recent changes are observed by many people and usually running slow enough to let us be in step with everything going on :) Spiritia 16:25, 26 March 2009 (UTC)Reply
Yes, but the main point with our crosswikispam-monitoring is to catch spam that isn't caught in the local recent changes, typically when site-owners promotes their site by adding one link to every different languageproject. The addition may look innocent enough at each project, but when the same ip/ users add the link to several project the conflict of interest becomes clear... Anyway, all the best and do let me know (or just revert me) if I remove more links that I shouldn't have removed. Regards, Finn Rindahl 17:49, 26 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for catching my mistake.

en:Template:LinkSummaryLive is something we have on en.wikipedia, not here. It's like en:Template:LinkSummary with the addition of a live link to the spam domain. --A. B. (talk) 23:10, 27 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

I sort of guessed it was something like that. I have to catch up on en:wiki antispam if I'm to continue with this antispam thingy, in a week I've made more edits to en:wiki than I've ever did in months adding iw's and commenting on Irish medieval history. An offering for our new administrator from your comrades... (our budget is smaller than Commons)

Finnrind, congratulations! You now have the rights of administrator on Meta. Please take a moment to read the Meta:Administrators page and watchlist related pages (in particular Meta:Requests for help from a sysop or bureaucrat, and Meta:Requests for deletion, but also Talk:Spam blacklist and Talk:Interwiki map), before launching yourself into page deletions, page protections, account blockings, or modifications of protected pages. The majority of the actions of administrators can be reversed by the other admins, except for history merges which must thus be treated with particular care.

A tip: add this page Meta:Administrators' discussion index to your watchlist, it tracks the latest activity to various sections of many of the important pages.

Please feel free to join us on IRC: #wikimedia-admin @ irc.freenode.net. You may find Commons:Guide to adminship to be useful reading although it doesn't always completely apply here at Meta.

Please also check or add your entry to Meta:Administrators#List_of_administrators and the Template:List of administrators.

Best wishes and congratulations. —Dferg (talk) 09:59, 30 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

re: jimdo.com

[edit]

Hi, we had a lot of non relevant associations and fansites using jimdo.com free solutions on itwiki to promote themselves, so we decided to blacklist the entire domain. Regarding costituzionerepubblicaitaliana.jimdo.com, the site seems to contain just the articles of the Italian Constitution, those are obviously in the PD (see s:Constitution of Italy for example), a link in the associated articles doesn't make any sense to me. --Brownout(msg) 16:02, 22 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

Thanks Brownout, there's a lot of non relevant sites added crosswiki from jimdo as well, but since there are also some useful stuff there I've decided not to propose global blacklisting. But looking at various reports I do see that itwiki has escaped a lot of spam added to other WM-projects by blacklisting it. Finn Rindahl 21:50, 22 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

Elissacafe is not spam

[edit]

Elissacafe.com is not a spam website at all but because our website is the best infront of other Elissa fan-sites and it has a high number of members in its forum, other websites and haters are reporting us to be spam !!! while we aren't... please remove it —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 109.110.96.5 (talk) 13:29, 13 April 2010

Adding links to wikipedia in order to promote a website is by definition spamming, you may consult en:Wikipedia:Spam for more information (this is an official guideline for Wikipedia in English, but most of it applies to other Wikimediaprojects as well). If you know of other Elissa fansites that have been inappropriately added, please report them here or at Talk:Spam_blacklist#Proposed_additions and blacklisting of them as well will be considered. Best regards, Finn Rindahl 13:42, 13 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

ok i understood but i meant that we helped in building ELissa's page and we posted our link just to save our hard work we did not to promote our site. Our site is a very well promoted one among many social websites and among discussion between Elissa's fans

Your meta user page + some info

[edit]

Just a brief note that you may want to adjust the links on your meta user page, currently the "talk to me in English"-link points to a deleted subpage here. Also, the point you just made about "Jimbo adjusting his rights without consensus" links to his own removal of the disputed rights that was part of the founder-flag, he has since also had removed his sysadmin (i.e. right to adjust usergrouprights...). Se the notice on top of the page you just edited at Meta for more info.

Hi ! Thank you for the links on my user page, I have just corrected it.
I'm not sure Jimbo has removed his sysadmin flag... A steward has seen that he had this flag and never should had it, so he has removed it. Am I mistaken ?
Therefore, I don't reproch him to have edited his permissions, but to have do it on enwiki and on enwikiversity instead of meta like everybody does. -- Quentinv57 16:52, 10 May 2010 (UTC)Reply
Yes, you are mistaken about that [4], Laaknor states he did this per Jimbos request. As for Jimbo editing global rights from enwiki, that's due to him not knowing (rememberering)[5] that global rights should only be edited via Meta. Finn Rindahl 17:47, 10 May 2010 (UTC)Reply
Okay, thanks. By the way, are you contributing to meta ? -- Quentinv57 18:39, 12 May 2010 (UTC)Reply
Yes I am. I have sysop flag here, and help maintaining the global Spam blacklist. From time to time I help out with some translations as well. Best regards, Finn Rindahl 19:03, 12 May 2010 (UTC)Reply
Is this spam blacklist globaly blocked ?
I ask you about your activity because I began to do maintenance on meta by fixing broken and double redirects, and I don't know what I can do to help you now. -- Quentinv57 09:03, 13 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

Well, help is certainly needed with working on crosswiki linkspam - there's a lot of it... When a domain is added to the Spam blacklist at Meta it becomes impossible for any editor to add that link to any page at any Wikimedia project (plus many other projects using the Medawikisoftware, who for convenience copy our list) - so it's a rather powerful tool. Most of the related work however is removing external links inappropriately added around wikimediaprojects, most frequently fansites, touristadvertisements and various commercial sites. Normally, only when the linkspamming er persistent and extensive the domain is blacklisted.

I suggest you take a look at Spam_blacklist/Help, Spam blacklist/About and User:Mike.lifeguard/Screencasts. If you are using IRC, #wikimedia-external-linksconnect is the relevant channel (not very much traffic there though, as we are not many active in this work currently).

There are also other places to help out at Meta besides spamwork, take a look at Meta:About Meta and Meta:Babylon (translations) and Small Wiki Monitoring Team (crosswiki antivandalism). Please do not hesitate to ask if you have any questions, we certainly could use some more help around here. Best regards, Finn Rindahl 11:58, 13 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

Fundraising Translators

[edit]

Hi Finnrind, my name is Deniz and I am working for the Wikimedia Foundation during the 2010 Fundraiser. My job is to be your liaison between the Norwegian community and the Foundation. This year's fundraiser is intended to be a collaborative and global effort, we recognize that banner messages that perform well in the United States don't necessarily translate well, or appeal to international audiences. I'm contacting you as I am currently looking for translators who are willing to contribute to this project, translating messages into Norwegian and suggesting messages that would appeal to Norwegian readers on the Fundraising Meta Page. Please let me know if you'd be interested in helping with this project, and add your feedback to the proposed messages as well! I look forward to working with you during this year's fundraiser. --Dgultekin 21:24, 7 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

Translator, We need you!

[edit]

Dear Finnrind,

You have helped us in previous years with translations and for that we are most grateful. Now we turn towards the 2011/12 fundraiser. It may seem forever away, but work has already begun getting everything ready to go. This year we want to have landing pages covering as many countries in as many languages as possible.

Right now, we want to figure out who is interested in translating for the fundraiser. This year we're hoping to have more of a solidified "core" group of translators that we can count on to have work done by a few key dates, but we'd also welcome help from people who are willing to just help out when they can.

If you would be interested please take a look at this little sign-up survey and fill it out http://survey.wikimedia.org/index.php?sid=13638&newtest=Y&lang=en. With that we can start building a list of people and filling any gaps in the languages we serve.

Many Thanks

Fundraising translation feedback

[edit]

Hey Finnrind,

I wanted to ask for your help. As you may be aware we have been running banners on many language wikis. We have a lot of new content this year and I really want to conduct a thorough review of our translations. This is a combination of feedback from the community, readers, donors as well as those with professional translator experience. This will help us ensure the highest quality of translations used in our messaging.

To help us out with this I wonder if you would be willing to give us feedback for norwegian bokmal using This Link

Simply follow the simple instructions on that page and if you have any questions feel free to contact me on my talk page.

Many Thanks

Global CSS/JS migration

[edit]

Hello Finnrind. You have a global.js page which contains your global scripts for all wikis. Since August 19th 2014, your global.js and global.css pages are loaded automatically on all wikis (see announcement). Since you already load them yourself on some wikis, you may experience script errors or issues like tools being added twice. I can fix that for you by merging your local scripts and styles into your global pages, and deleting the local pages with synchbot. Do you want me to do that? —Pathoschild 02:48, 10 February 2015 (UTC)

Hi again! Feel free to add a Synchbot request or leave a message if you want me to do this; for now I'll strike you off the list. :) —Pathoschild 21:31, 21 June 2015 (UTC)Reply
