Can't find MediaSearch.php
[edit]Hi, i'm trying to download the MediaSerach.php extension. Unfortunately the link http://tools.wikimedia.de/~daniel/WikiSense/MediaSearch.php does not work. Is this extension still operational? I'm looking quite a while for such an extension. many thanks (also for you other very usefull extensions) --Janvanderweel 14:41, 8 June 2010 (UTC)
OK... I just spent 10 minutes wondering why it didn't work, before I realised the category field didn't need the "Category:" prefix. Maybe you could accept it with or without the prefix. Thanks, pfctdayelise 09:46, 8 June 2006 (UTC)
- Hm... maybe. I'd have to know the possible prefixes in every language, though... -- Duesentrieb 12:08, 10 June 2006 (UTC)
Also, would it be possible to search specifically for min pixels either vertical or horizontal? (or even both, that would be a fun combination) pfctdayelise 09:54, 8 June 2006 (UTC)
- That's already possible. The "Size - no smaller than ... pixels" means that either the width or the hight is mor than the number you enter. This applies to bitmaps only, of course. -- Duesentrieb 12:08, 10 June 2006 (UTC)
- I mean specifically, the minimum should apply to specifically horizontal or vertical. eg. find all images with a minimum width of 2000px. pfctdayelise 15:29, 10 June 2006 (UTC)
MediaSearch request
[edit]Hi duesentrieb, I'm the one who made this not half bad request ;) Here I'm with another stupid request, please be patient with me :)
I noticed that some articles in my wikipedia don't have an image to illustrate it. Then, many times, I follow the interwiki links and possibly find an image with free license (sometimes even already on commons) to use. This work is a bit boring, because there are often a dozen of links to check and thousands articles in a given category, many already have images and sometimes the search ends without success.
Well, could your tool do it? I mean:
- Find articles in a category without images (or with only one with a long article)
- Follow interwiki links and show me the images found with their license.
Thanks again for your time and I hope my requests aren't bothering you. ;) --82.60.67.35 14:35, 7 July 2006 (UTC)
todo
- Hm... finding pages without images would be a task for CatScan. Searching in all wikis that are linked... hm... maybe. MAybe it would be nicer to try to find the corresponding category on commons, and direct you there?
- Basically, I see what you want, but i'm not sure how exactly to do it. But i'll think about it. -- Duesentrieb 20:30, 7 July 2006 (UTC)
- Maybe Magnus would be better for this one. I think he has some similar tools that work off interwiki links already. pfctdayelise 00:46, 8 July 2006 (UTC)
- To Duesentrieb about commons, I search the commons when I can't find images on other wikipedias, and rarely I found images not linked elsewhere... this, i think, because if someone uploads a file to commons is for use it on his own wikipedia. Searching also on commons could be useful as well, but in my experience follow interwikis link is faster, because not always files on commons have a "useful" filename (i.e not descriptive name or descriptive in a language I don't speak), and checking hundreds of images in a category is possible only when you know what aspect the subject has :)
To Pfctdayelise: I've searched Magnus on this list but I can't find him.
Thanks to both of you--82.60.88.85 10:55, 8 July 2006 (UTC)

"hide questionable"
-- Duesentrieb 17:50, 31 July 2006 (UTC)

Media Search
[edit]Hello. When I do a Media Search, your engine gives me back loads of results that say "Description missing". Just try a search for recent "New Zealand" + subcategory files. Tons of images that in your search display the "description missing" tag, but have clear descriptions. Not a major issue, but if you have time, this should be updated in how the search recognises whether there's a description or not. 222.153.14.219 04:59, 4 December 2007 (UTC)
- PS: Thanks for the tool - its a real, real help checking new uploads from other people. 222.153.14.219 04:59, 4 December 2007 (UTC)
