This page is for discussion about Gallery [1], a tool written by User:Duesentrieb. If I do not respond, please leave a quick note on my talk page at the german wikipedia.

Some images are not displayed

[edit]

It seems that an image I originally uploaded isn't displayed in the gallery if someone other than me uploaded the current revision of the image. In [2] [3] is missing though [4] is displayed. --Baikonur 15:06, 16 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

Yes, that is the case. Showing the image in the gallery of each contributor would be more complicated database-wise. Also, I feel that the last uploader is responsible for categorizing and tagging. I wrote this tool as an administrative helper, not for showing "all my uploads". Maybe such a mode could be added - i'm busy with other stuff right now. -- Duesentrieb 16:35, 16 February 2006 (UTC)Reply
Ok, just thought it could be bug. However, it is a very helpful tool, thanks a lot. --Baikonur 17:57, 16 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

commons:Template:Military insignia

[edit]

This appears to be a valid copyright tag, but images with it still get the "untagged!" message. pfctdayelise 02:01, 25 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

fixed in dev version, will be online later today -- Duesentrieb 12:45, 25 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

User names with more than one word

[edit]

Hi. I found that the Gallery function doesn't support User names with more than one word, it only uses he first of the words when filtering by user. Found this when I used the 'Profile Gallery' from my talk page in Commons. /Lokal_Profil

Hm? Works for me... -- Duesentrieb 23:52, 6 April 2006 (UTC)Reply
[edit]

Hello Duesentrieb. Please see Image:Franshals.jpg. This image is in category:Frans Hals, because the image uses {{Creator:Frans Hals}}. Your tool Gallery reports it to be an orphan [5]. A bug?

Affectionally, Kjetil r 17:16, 9 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

I guess so - the way this tool detects orphans and license tags will be reworked soon anyway. -- Duesentrieb 22:24, 9 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

Tab / Comma separated formats

[edit]

When using tsv or csv some colums doesn't get any separation, eg. when doing query for user "Duesentrieb", it gives:

ButtonOrange.svgimage/svg, 480x480, 1 KB (usage) Duesentrieb (gallery / orphans / untagged) 2006-05-19 00:46 (new)	GFDL-user	Categories: Map symbols, Web Symbols, Indication iconsusage in all projects

Csv gives:

,ButtonOrange.svgimage%2Fsvg%2C+480x480%2C+1%26thinsp%3BKB+%28usage%29+Duesentrieb+%28gallery+%2F+orphans+%2F+untagged%29+2006-05-19+00%3A46+%28new%29,GFDL-user,Categories%3A+Map+symbols%2C+Web+Symbols%2C+Indication+iconsusage+in+all+projects

Looks like name and mime-type is concatenated, and category is appended with "usage in all projects". --213.139.183.195 22:21, 3 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

fixed in dev

Yea, that sucks - i'm using a generic table formater for most of my tools; if i'm too lazy to provide extra info, it'll just strip all HTML and use the result for TSV/CSV. I have fixed this in my development version, there will be propert data fields after the next update. -- Duesentrieb 23:32, 3 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

I have not been able to use the gallery tool for about 15 hours. The error message that is see follows:

Gallery.php 'Out of memory' when image used a lot

[edit]

Images are coming up "orphan" and "no license tag" when that doesn't seem correct

[edit]

Hi... I have some images, such as "Linotype mold disk.png", which are showing up in the Gallery as "No license tag" and "Orphan". But there is a license tag (PD-US-not renewed). And there is a category tag (Printing). So I don't understand why Gallery is flagging them.

Also, these images are used, in the English wikipedia (right now only on a subpage of my userpage, where I'm working on an article rewrite). So they are used, too. Or is that covered by the note that the English wikipedia isn't scanned while we're waiting for hardware? Paul Koning 21:48, 20 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Local templates

[edit]

What does it need to make the 'Gallery' and 'UntaggedImages' tools ignore some templates at el.wikipedia? I mean templates that they aren't license tags, like {{information}} (the equivalent is {{πληροφορίες εικόνας}})? This is essential for UntaggedImages. Also (but secondary) how can we make Gallery to mark licenses as good or bad (with colors, as it does for commons)? Geraki 06:57, 22 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

YOu would need to set up a system similar to http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Tag_categories (and then tell me about it). -- Duesentrieb 08:37, 22 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Thumbnails in non-Commons Galleries

[edit]

Hi. Thank you for your excellent Gallery tool. I noticed that Galleries for projects outside of Commons such as my English Wikipedia Gallery and your German Wikipedia Gallery (which shows some orphans) do not display thumbnails, while my Commons Gallery does display thumbnails. If this behavior is on purpose, what would be needed to make them all display thumbnails? If this is a mistake, please fix it. Thanks!   — Jeff G. (talk|contribs) 21:32, 11 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

I see all the thumbnails on all threee pages. Must have been a temporary hickup - probably timeouts while fetching thumbnails. -- Duesentrieb 00:10, 12 November 2007 (UTC)Reply
I found the proximate cause of the problem. In my Firefox (Mozilla Firefox version "Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.0.12) Gecko/20070508 Firefox/1.5.0.12"}, I had checked the default-unchecked "Tools / Options / Content / Load Images for the originating website only" checkbox while tweaking security, and I only had "wikimedia.org" as an exception to that, not "wikipedia.org", and then I forgot that I had done those things. This Gallery tool serves XHTML that loads thumbnail images from the source website's thumb.php, for instance this image. I hope that this posting helps someone else to not make the same mistake, and I am sorry for any inconvenience. Thanks again!   — Jeff G. (talk|contribs) 01:27, 12 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Call to a member function selectField() on a non-object

here --Tgr 19:15, 17 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Can you please post the URL that generates this error, so I can investigate it? It's probably caused by the server move or the reconfiguration of the text store, but without an example, it's hard to find the problem. -- Duesentrieb 10:54, 19 June 2008 (UTC)Reply
Try this one [6], too. If you try to find categories with the CommonSense tool, it'll always produce the error message metioned above. Regards, --Svens Welt 15:02, 20 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

database error

[edit]

When using the WikiSense Gallery on Commons [7], I recieve an error-message and see only the last file I uploaded recently:

A database error has occurred Query: SELECT cl_to as cat FROM categorylinks LEFT JOIN u_daniel_cache.commonswiki_nontopics ON namespace = 14 AND title = cl_to where cl_from = 6597756 AND id IS NULL Function: getCategories Error: 1146 Table 'u_daniel_cache.commonswiki_nontopics' doesn't exist (sql-s3)

No thumbnails for files with "+" in their names

[edit]

Hi. This user puts "+" in some of his files' names. URLs of thumbnails for such files have the "+" replaced with "_", so the thumbnails are not displayed. --AVRS 17:03, 24 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the tools. I use CheckUsage and Gallery. And I believe the user would thank you for the Gallery, because he seems to use it a lot and always says "I've uploaded this file to my gallery". --AVRS 17:03, 24 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

Strange behaviour after user account is renamed

[edit]

Hello, I have changed my user name from "Cbrajon" to "Albacore70" in Wikimedia Commons. Running the Gallery tool gave an unexpected result: Only 5 images appeared when I expected more than one hundred (created when logged as "Cbrajon" username). I have no idea why these 5 images (only) appeared, since all have been created with the same account. Is this a known issue? Regards, Albacore70 (Wikimedia Commons)

Hit counter

[edit]

Hello! Thanks for your great tools. Is it possible to add a counter that says how many hits the search has generated? Example: Showing 1-25 of 340 images. -PeterFisk 16:23, 3 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

[edit]

As already noted here, the Gallery tool "attributes" the image to its last uploader. However, a serious problem with this approach is that when an image is rotated by the Rotatebot, it is re-uploaded and therefore disappears from the gallery of the user who originally uploaded it. Since Commons software apparently does not recognize EXIF orientation data, all portrait-orientation digital photographs have to be rotated, and - if it is done by the bot (probably the cleanest and the most convenient way) - no such images will be retained in the user gallery, as displayed by the tool. I asked about this today at the Commons village pump, and other users also see it as a problem. For me, it unfortunately destroys the utility of an otherwise excellent tool.

Is there a way to add an "Original uploader" checkbox (or something of the sort) so that Gallery tool uses the original rather than the last uploader? I understand that Gallery is SQL-based, so this would amount to a change (not too radical, hopefully...) in the SQL query.

(Please respond here, I'll be watching this page.) Thanks, Branko Radovanović 21:12, 15 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

Option to display more images on one page?

[edit]

I searched for info on an option/switch to enhance the number of files/images on the first page to "a lot", for example :-) In the normal "upload" menu at the top of Commons, one can enhance the number of displayed files up to, e.g., max. 500. I did not find it in the Gallery Tool, did I just miss it? Pittigrilli (talk)
