[edit]Hello Biniyam. I'm Nahom. If you are still active on the project and formed a user group in 2016 do you want to have a discussion with us? We've formed a user group of our own last year and we're trying to grow it Khajitdadddy (talk) 08:41, 11 October 2024 (UTC)

It looks like there is a disagreement on who are the leads of Wikimedia Community User Group Ethiopia and another Wikimedia Ethiopia
I will take note that
- There seems to be two pages on meta. One for Wikimedia Community User Group Ethiopia
- Activity on the wiki for User:Binyamdele : https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:CentralAuth/Binyamdele
- Activity on the wiki for user:Zekariasbzf : https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:CentralAuth/Zekariasbzf
- Activity on the wiki for User: Khajitdadddy : https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:CentralAuth/Khajitdadddy
- Activity on the wiki for User: Dagmawi-M : https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:CentralAuth/Dagmawi-M
- It also looks like Zekariasbzf is the lead of Wikimedia Ethiopia already (since 2019)
- There are no activity report whatsoever for neither of the two groups: Wikimedia Affiliates Data Portal/Reports
Maybe Zekariasbzf and Binyamdele are confusing the two uaergroups ?
Last point, in case it can be useful. I will point out that in the past, I had contact with one of the lead of the Wikimedia Community User Group Ethiopia, User:Nebiyu.s. Back in 2017, we (Wiki in Africa) gave him funds (from Wikimedia Foundation) to organize Wiki Loves Africa in the country. He took the money. There was never any evidence he organized anything. He never answered to any of our message once he had the money. This was reported here. No evidence that this might be related to the current discussion, but just in case I am pointing this out since it has been buried in the history of the user group page.

- Thank you for sharing your views, Anthere! I wanted to respond to your comment just not to create any confusion or mislead anyone in any way. But before that, I just want to express my appreciation, for all the work you've done and Your leadership in projects such as Wiki Loves Africa, Wiki Loves Women w/c has helped promote diversity within the community and beyond. I truly value your work and commitment, to this cause.
- Going to my points, I guess you are aware you we've had a meeting with the Wikimedia Affiliations Committee on October 9 regarding the setup and framework of these groups with a focus, on transparency and making decisions collectively.
- I believe personal user profiles showcase just activities rather than leadership roles, like the one you highlighted in my case as where I engage actively in Wikimedia projects.
- I appreciate you bringing up your previous interactions with Nebiyu.s however it's crucial to focus on discussing Wikimedia efforts, in Ethiopia without letting previous events overshadow the progress we aim to achieve.
- Seven years ago, during my time as a student, I was initially got fascinated by Wikimedia user groups. Then hearing with Nebiyu.s the role but unfortunately despite our efforts he never accepted our invites to events we organized on a monthly or bi-monthly basis on campus. This encounter led my attention towards OpenStreetMap where I engaged in collaboration, with enthusiasts.
- Ever since then, I've taken part in data and community engagements extending beyond campus involvement. Despite a schedule, I remain enthusiastic, about sharing knowledge and supporting Wikimedia initiatives. While there might've been some communication gaps, between our activities and Wikimedia staff, I have photographs that prove the events and contributions we made in the past.
- Finally, Excited to collaborate with you and fellow team members openly to coordinate our actions, for the advancement of Wikimedia Ethiopia's goals! Let's concentrate on the now and what lies ahead by joining forces to establish a diverse Wikimedia community in Ethiopia. Thanks more, for your help and input! I'm looking forward to what we can accomplish through working. Binyamdele (talk) 19:29, 24 October 2024 (UTC)
- Hi Anthere,
- Thank you for your insights regarding the current situation. The name Wikimedia User Group Ethiopia was used by us before we were aware of Nebiyou's creation of the group, which we have been using in all our events, with all activities documented , social media accounts and merchandise under this name.
- It’s worth noting that both @Binyamdele and @Zekariasbzf began editing under Wikimedia User Group Ethiopia in October of this year, around the same time we noticed the meta page existed under this name. While they might or might not have used the name Wikimedia Ethiopia in their contributions, it is registered as an NGO by them, as indicated on Zekarias's user page.
- We understand that if @Binyamdele and @Zekariasbzf wish to keep using both Wikimedia Ethiopia, which they created, and Wikimedia User Group Ethiopia, which Nebiyou created, that is acceptable. It's bittersweet to consider changing the name, especially since we have built a history under it and even developed merchandise associated with it. However, our decision to move forward as the a new name stems from a desire to focus on our own contributions independently, ensuring clarity and reducing any potential overlaps or conflicts in our efforts.
