Wikimedia Foundation staff training

[edit]

Hello, is there a list or other summary of internal training conducted at Wikimedia Foundation for staffers, and how can one contribute to it or make suggestions? For example, how do I see what kind of open science training is provided to the various research-heavy teams (like Product Design Strategy, Product Analytics, Research)? Hi Nemo, we do not currently maintain a public list or summary of internal training conducted at the WMF. There are some trainings/workshops that are available to all staff. Some trainings are available/mandated for specific teams or job functions. Most of the training/workshops that staff might participate in are not centrally managed by one particular team. Individuals may elect to pursue training/workshops that are not otherwise provided internally. And we are exploring the possibility of making a large library of training/workshops across an array of disciplines available to all of our staff. All of this is to say I believe it would be unwieldy and cumbersome to publicly maintain a complete and accurate list of training.
What I can share with you now is that the Learning and Development team provides training in core professional skills required to be effective at the WMF to both managers and individual contributors, we maintain and support a variety of onboarding/orientation trainings for new staff, we manage necessary compliance trainings (eg preventing workplace harassment), trainings around some of our organizational processes, we support other teams in developing or otherwise sharing trainings that they manage, we connect staff with professional development learning opportunities, and we manage an internal leadership development program.
If you are curious to learn more about what kind of training is provided to specific teams, it is likely best to reach out to those teams directly. And if you'd like to recommend any specific trainings, you can either share that with the specific teams in questions, or you are welcome to let me know and I can share those recommendations with the appropriate teams/individuals.
I hope that helps - please let me know if there are any other questions I might be able to answer! Awjrichards (WMF) (talk) 18:14, 19 February 2023 (UTC)Reply
