Re: Sort order
[edit]Part of the discussion that was in User talk:Liangent has been copied here, in order to keep the topic in one place
Hi,
Bawolff told me about your work on multiple collations for a site. Could you tell me how many collations can we have on a site? Did you work on Chinese and Japanese sorts by the way?
Thanks by advance for your answer,
Regards, Automatik (talk) 14:28, 23 July 2013 (UTC)
- There isn't a hard limit I guess... and I worked on some Chinese collations. Liangent 23:17, 23 July 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks for your answer. What does mean there isn't a hard limit (my English is bad)? For instance, how different sorts can we use? Would it be possible to choose a sort by default for each category (by instance with a magic word or maybe with javascript if it's easy), or we have to choose manually whenever we visit a category page? What good sort for chinese sort could you suggest? (this?) In fact, we search a chance to sort correctly the entries in Wiktionary's categories without use {{DEFAULTSORT:sort order}} in the pages. So, as we treat all the languages, it would be cool to have specific sort for certain languages at least, and a sort by default for others (who do not follow any existing sorting). If you've an idea to realize this…

- That is, you can configure as many collations as you want at the same time, if sysadmins feel happy (for increased system load). Liangent 11:59, 24 July 2013 (UTC)
- Thank you again. Do you thnk it would be possible to preselect the language by default for the category's pages, using by instance something like a parser function? Automatik (talk) 03:16, 26 August 2013 (UTC)
- I assume this "language" means "collation" here, and it's possible. Liangent 05:36, 26 August 2013 (UTC)

Hi Liangent. Is there something new around that since then? If I understand well, you were expecting sysadmins to make possible to increase system load to allow multiple collations per site. — Automatik (talk) 17:45, 13 July 2017 (UTC)

Hello tech ambassador! This month has seen a good influx of new faces in this crew \o/ , so it is time to reactivate our conversations. Now that we have a pretty good coverage of so many different projects, here are some topics for your consideration.
- Are there further thoughts on the role itself? I hope the questions available on Meta can help spark them. Please weigh in at Talk:Tech/Ambassadors/List#Tech ambassadors, take 2.
- How about we try and organise future collective work in a Phabricator workboard? Talk:Tech/Ambassadors/List#A Phab workboard for us? has all the details to explore this proposal.
- Finally, you are also welcome to comment at https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T177923, should you happen to have suggestions for the Community Liaisons team, currently wondering how to measure "Wiki projects requesting beta features and other early deployments".
We hope to be able to host a live discussion in early 2018; until then, we're looking forward to hearing from you on Meta! All the best, --Elitre (WMF) (talk), on behalf of the Community Liaisons
Getting started on Phabricator
[edit]Greetings, ambassador!
As recently discussed within this group, we are ready to experiment with setting up a project and its related workboard on Phabricator, the platform used in the Wikimedia movement for project management, software bug reporting and feature requests. It will help us coordinate and cooperate better on projects that should require ambassadors' involvement.
For the time being, I'm just asking that you please add your Phabricator nickname next to your name in the ambassadors' table (you can create an account now if you don't have one already). I will send you further information soon! Thanks for your patience as we get to the operational stage of this effort :) Best, --Elitre (WMF) (talk) 15:01, 16 January 2018 (UTC)
New Tech Ambassadors Phabricator board
[edit]Hello!
You have listed yourself as an active Tech Ambassador, thank you for that!
We have recently set up a board on Phabricator so that you can learn about tasks and updates that are potentially interesting for your community, and take action when necessary. During the pilot phase we are currently in, to avoid confusion, only Wikimedia Foundation's Community Liaisons will mark tasks so that they end up in the various columns. Thanks for your understanding!
Please follow this Phabricator board (learn how to). You'll receive "notifications" for updates in all tasks listed there. In case you choose to receive them as email; we currently expect the volume to be fairly low, but in any case you can learn how to manage it.
If you have any feedback about this board, please leave your questions and comments on the Ambassadors talk page.
All the best, Trizek (WMF) (talk) 13:03, 24 May 2018 (UTC)
Community Wishlist Survey 2020
[edit]Hello!
You are getting this message because you've previously participated in the Community Wishlist Survey, in either the Wikisource or Wiktionary categories. I wanted to let you know that this year's survey is now open for proposals. You can suggest technical changes until November 11. Unlike previous years, we are only accepting proposals for non-Wikipedia content projects with no dedicated teams (i.e., Wikibooks, Wiktionary, Wikiquote, Wikisource, Wikiversity, Wikispecies, Wikivoyage, and Wikinews). You can learn more on the survey page.
You can vote on proposals from November 20 to December 2. To keep the number of messages at a reasonable level, I won't send out a separate reminder to you about that. We look forward to your participation. Thank you! IFried (WMF) (talk) 18:52, 22 October 2019 (UTC)
The 2021 Community Wishlist Survey is now open! This survey is the process where communities decide what the Community Tech team should work on over the next year. We encourage everyone to submit proposals until the deadline on 30 November, or comment on other proposals to help make them better. The communities will vote on the proposals between 8 December and 21 December.
The Community Tech team is focused on tools for experienced Wikimedia editors. You can write proposals in any language, and we will translate them for you. Thank you, and we look forward to seeing your proposals!

We invite all registered users to vote on the 2021 Community Wishlist Survey. You can vote from now until 21 December for as many different wishes as you want.
In the Survey, wishes for new and improved tools for experienced editors are collected. After the voting, we will do our best to grant your wishes. We will start with the most popular ones.
We, the Community Tech, are one of the Wikimedia Foundation teams. We create and improve editing and wiki moderation tools. What we work on is decided based on results of the Community Wishlist Survey. Once a year, you can submit wishes. After two weeks, you can vote on the ones that you're most interested in. Next, we choose wishes from the survey to work on. Some of the wishes may be granted by volunteer developers or other teams.
We are waiting for your votes. Thank you!
