[edit]Excuse me Artix Kreiger, I'm the user who opened a global checkuser request about an almost certain abuser of proxies and sockpuppets 3 days ago. Okay, I opened it as an anonymous, and then I created an account, but the request is still as I left it. Meanwhile, another pair of IPs belonging to the same ranges have appeared making the same edits in the same pages... I thought such a report on meta.wikimedia would have been considered immediately, afterall it's about a user who's been using proxies since over a month ago and lately sock accounts too, and there's also a small possibility that the sockmaster is an old Italian registered user. Is the fact that this report is coming from an anonymous more significant that the content of the report itself, which I've just repeated? 151.64.168.168 17:17, 12 January 2018 (UTC)
- you’ve asked the question to Ruslik0. He would give you a better answer. --Artix Kreiger (Message Wall) 01:00, 13 January 2018 (UTC)
Instead he seems to be ignoring me... May you tell me if I'm doing something wrong? Apart from the fact that I'm a new user I don't think I've given any reasons to be snobbed, I've only opened a checkuser request and provided enough information to deal with it easily. Will you please let me know if, on your opinion, it's just a matter of time or it's more likely that the request will be ignored? 151.64.191.128 17:01, 15 January 2018 (UTC)
- no offense, but it got denied and it was gonna be that way. In the eyes of the stewards, you would have to be somewhat of an established user (with an account) in order to request. Otherwise, no one would know who you are. --Artix Kreiger (Message Wall) 13:48, 16 January 2018 (UTC)

- Bureaucrats on Wikimedia wikis where the Translate extension is installed can now add and remove the translation administrator permission by default. Administrators of wikis where this extension is enabled can add and remove this permission to or from themselves. Wikis that used a different configuration before have not changed. [1]
- There is a new Discourse test support channel for Wikimedia developers. You can ask questions or answer others questions about MediaWiki and Wikimedia software development. [2]
Problems
- Last week's MediaWiki update was rolled back. This was because of a bug that changed non-ASCII characters when a page was edited. [3][4]
Changes later this week
- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 16 January. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 17 January. It will be on all wikis from 18 January (calendar).
Meetings
- You can join the next meeting with the Editing team. During the meeting, you can tell developers which bugs you think are the most important. The meeting will be on 16 January at 19:30 (UTC). See how to join.
- You can join the technical advice meeting on IRC. During the meeting, volunteer developers can ask for advice. The meeting will be on 17 January at 16:00 (UTC). See how to join.
Future changes
- A few hundred wikis with less than ten high-priority errors in Linter categories will switch to use the Remex parsing library. This is to replace Tidy. It will happen on 31 January. Other wikis will be recommended to switch soon when they have fixed the errors that must be fixed. Tidy will be removed in the middle of 2018. [5][6]

[edit]I'm this user (ther remover). I did it due to my retirement. It's as well as the many emails I receive, but not enough to read you them. It seems to me that I'll return only in the summer (around June). Thanks, 83.130.139.113 16:57, 24 January 2018 (UTC)

IP "votes" in RFL discussions
[edit]In the one you just backed out, the user was probably an LTA anyway, so no harm done.
Still, I tend to be lenient in allowing IP participation in RFL discussions, because as you'll see from the template at the top (and also in LPP) these discussions are not votes (or even !votes) in the usual way of looking at things. The policy governs the decision, and the decision is made by LangCom. The discussion is provided to help LangCom decide whether the request is within policy or not. But LangCom really does not judge these things by the number of !votes. StevenJ81 (talk) 14:55, 7 February 2018 (UTC)
- @StevenJ81:, ah ok. I see, you weigh the merits of the benefits over costs. I understand. Also, I agree, it appeared to be an LTA or sorts because I was not impressed by the gung-ho attitude of supports. --Artix Kreiger (Message Wall) 14:59, 7 February 2018 (UTC)
- Me, neither. It feels like possibly an IP of Assoc, who was just banned. But who knows? In any event, I'm most appreciative of your helping keep an eye on these things. (And I was just away for a while; help is always welcome.) StevenJ81 (talk) 15:30, 7 February 2018 (UTC)

- TemplateStyles has been deployed to the Swedish Wikipedia. TemplateStyles is a feature to make it easy to add CSS to templates without administrator privileges. This allows for better adaptability to screen sizes, especially on mobile where are half our total page views. If your community would like to be the next to have the feature, please submit a task on Phabricator. [15][16][17]
- Registration pages now collect keyboard/mouse usage information for research on identifying spambots.
Changes later this week
- You can opt in to a new beta feature that lets you use visual diffs on history pages. [18]
- The visual editor shows and lets you edit templates in one way, and reference lists in another. This meant that templates that only contain a fake reference list, like
{{reflist}}
, would not get updated as you edited. Now they will update as you edit, but you will no longer be able to visually edit them as templates. [19] - The abuse filter extension has a new feature
contains_all
that you may use to check if one or more strings are all contained in another given string. [20] - The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 13 February. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 14 February. It will be on all wikis from 15 February (calendar).

Hi, Nahuatl is macrolanguage (NAH), in Mexico there are many Nahuatl languages, if you want this translates in Central Nahuatl (ISO code NHN), village is altepetl, commune is Altepecalpolli, and city is altepetl, Metropolitan Area is Altepenanyotl, Province is Hueyaltepetl, state is Tlahtohcayotl and country or nation is Tlacatiyan. Community ban proposal - User:Zsfgseg
[edit]Template:Discussion-top Zsfgseg (talk • contribs • deleted contribs • logs • filter log • block user • block log • GUC • CA)
see also: Category:Suspected Wikipedia sockpuppets of Zsfgseg
This user was initially blocked for vandalizing AN/I. Since that block he has repeatedly evaded his block, wanting a second chance (which is always denied because (a) his registered socks share the same name, and (b) he goes right back to the same behavior that got him blocked). Even more recently, he's been resorting to pestering me on IRC, seeking an unblock (usually after one of his socks gets caught), but today he followed up an IRC PM with this post to my talk page.
It is clear to me that he flat-out does not get it, and his repeated communication with me is starting to border on harassment. I am seeking a community ban against him for these reasons. —Jeremy (v^_^v Dittobori) 02:03, 12 June 2010 (UTC)
- Support Ban There's no excuse for that behavior and it's obvious he's just here to screw around, play games and act a fool. I think he DOES get it: this person has no desire to edit but gets his jollies by playing this game. Kindzmarauli (talk) 05:51, 12 June 2010 (UTC)

- Support – Just formally ban him already; he's virtually de facto banned, anyways, as no admin in their right mind would even consider unblocking. –MuZemike 21:15, 12 June 2010 (UTC)
- Support: Considered this yesterday, decided to sleep on it, no change of heart. Removing this discussion (per AnmaFinotera, above) suggests an ongoing wish to be destructive. Second chance comes after demonstrating an ability and desire to be constructive. TFOWR 10:21, 13 June 2010 (UTC)
- Support; better to make this formal for the sake of clarity, if not anything else - the behavior is not acceptable. Ncmvocalist (talk) 14:16, 13 June 2010 (UTC)

- Support ban – Clearly a lier who purposely wants another chance, just because the user wants to continue to vandalize. By the way, what do you mean with "community ban"? Heymid (talk) 20:53, 13 June 2010 (UTC)
- Comment. A community ban is a type of ban when you have been practically ostracized here. Like others said here, community-banned people have no chance being accepted again as normal WP editors, not after all the damage they have done. --Eaglestorm (talk) 15:19, 14 June 2010 (UTC)
- Support ban - from the IP evasion I've seen just today I'm happy for this to go ahead, and per the other supports above. S.G.(GH) ping! 23:14, 13 June 2010 (UTC)
- Support ban - this kind of disruption warrants nothing other than this kind of remedy. Volunteer time cannot be wasted by behaviour like this and so it needs to simply be prevented--Cailil talk 23:58, 13 June 2010 (UTC)
- Consensus seems clear to me, I have tagged the account and added to the List of banned users. Kindzmarauli (talk) 03:57, 14 June 2010 (UTC)
- If no one's willing to unblock him, it's unnecessary to go through this rigamarole.—Ryūlóng (竜龙)
- Apologies for pimping this every chance I get, but for editors dealing with clean-up, this is necessary: per WP:3RR reverting an indef'd editor can result in a block for a good-faith editor. A community ban changes that. There is value in a community ban over an indef-block-with-no-admin-prepared-to-unblock. TFOWR 14:44, 14 June 2010 (UTC)

[edit]zh.wikipedia.org is blocked in mainland China by the government, as a result many users from mainland China need to use proxy or VPN to access zhwiki. There are other methods to get around the block but not everyone knows about them. But as for the proxy or VPN usage, it's not uncommon for different individuals to get assigned to the same server, so that it would look like these accounts are editing from the same location or appearing to be controlled by the same person in a technical manner. -★- PlyrStar93. →Message me. ← 01:15, 4 April 2018 (UTC)
- Plyrstar93, 中文是你的母语吗? how extensive is the block of zhwiki? Are there any good VPN i could use then? I might need them soon. --Artix Kreiger (Message Wall) 13:13, 5 April 2018 (UTC)
- Yeah I'm zh-n. The block is by DNS poisoning, which means the domain zh.wikipedia.org gets resolved into an invalid IP address. It's possible to visit zhwiki in mainland China by setting up other methods without using a proxy/VPN, but this can vary depending on the ISP used and you will most definitely need a VPN anyways if you need to visit certain other websites (and I would rather not talk about the exact methods in a place publicly visible). Speaking of "good VPN" service, it's pretty subjective and time-sensitive, because new "unauthorized" VPN servers are actively blocked by the government as soon as they become aware of them. On the other hand I don't need to use VPN at the moment since I'm not in China now, and I would not publicly recommend any VPN service. [edit]Call For Volunteer Facilitators Across Africa
[edit]Dear Wikimedian,
The Africa Narrative is seeking volunteer facilitators in Egypt (two volunteers) and Senegal (two volunteers) for the AfroCreatives Wikiproject.
The AfroCreatives Wikiproject aims to support and mobilize creatives and professionals from the African creative sector, as well as enthusiasts more broadly, to contribute and enhance knowledge on Wikipedia about Africa’s creative economy. Its inaugural effort will target the film sectors of Egypt, Nigeria, Rwanda, and Senegal.
The Africa Narrative (TAN) is a non-profit that develops singular, high-impact initiatives in support of African creatives and the African cultural and creative industries with the aim to strengthen capacity in the continent’s creative economy and the global visibility of African cultural soft power.
All volunteers must have full professional proficiency in English. In Senegal, they must have native or full professional proficiency in French; in Egypt, they must have native or full professional proficiency in Arabic. Volunteer facilitators should have a vast knowledge about Wikimedia projects and experience with teaching new editors. All volunteers will be compensated.
Interested participants may sign up on the project's Meta page. You may also indicate your country and email if your Wikipedia account is not associated with any email address.
