Mathematics

Thaks for your comment. I and other participants went to a lot of effort to get traction for our proposals. The so-called "standard, community-based process" did not work for us, in spite of what Sherry claims. We were sent on a long and fruitless quest, I think partly as a "joke" by one particular member of staff (not her). What did work was getting Jimmy Wales to personally approach Lila and the Board with our proposals, followed by a personal exchange with Lila. That did work, in the sense that we got an answer. That answer was unfortunately negative. The implication that Sherry is trying to impose on the discussion is that her suggestion whenever you have a great idea involving something technical, that you share the idea with the rest of your community at one of the Village Pumps (or some other centralized forum). If the rest of the community is interested, they'll point you to the right place worked and that I said it didn't work, falsely, simply because I didn't get the answer I wanted. That is not true, and she knows, or ought to know, that it is not true. I don't see any propsect for my being able to participate usefully at that page in the face of an attitude like hers, and that's why I'm replying here rather than on that page. @Deltahedron: Thank you too. How did you get Jimmy Wales involved into this? Many times I was thinking to ask him to help for implementing the standards and the tool for creating references from newspapers in one click. But of course, I feel highly uncomfortable to approach him, alone. The same with the forum idea (although less frequently). If I don't express myself well or if he won't like me for some other reasons and then if he puts (or suggests) some label on me, that label will stick with me for a very long time.

The reality is that, no, if you have a suggestion, Wikipedia doesn't have the mechanisms to help you to make your suggestion visible. Instead, your suggestion is getting quickly buried into archives and also gets lost in one of the many "central forums". It looks like Wikipedia is getting more and more "central forums" every day, lol.

Can I have a link to the proposal you made?

And the question is what we can do? I am very frustrated many times, to use the mildest words that I can find at this moment. The idea to create a regular forum looks to me like the best way solve the problem of messy communications. Maybe there are better ideas, I don't know. At least the forum can serve as a central place to find the best place to discuss a specific topic: Village Pump, Help Desk, etc. Many people are much more comfortable using a forum than Village Pump and such. I am editing Wikipedia since 7 years but still, sometimes when I think about making myself heard, I feel like I am lost in an endless ocean and I just wish there would have been a regular forum where you can easily navigate to the sub-category you want to post your message in.

Maybe there are others like us, and if we can get to a conclusion, we can create a RFC page in order to try to address (or at least to mention) the problem. —  Ark25  (talk) 23:06, 6 September 2014 (UTC)

I posted at his en.wp talk page. I initially asked him for help [1], he asked for a definite proposal [2], we had a discussion at en:Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Mathematics/Archive/2014/Jun#A_challenge_from_Jimbo_Wales, I posted the summary back to him, he was kind enough to support it and pass it on to Lila and the Board [3]. After that I had an email exchange with Lila. Unfortunately she was unable to agree to any of our requests. There is a current discussion at en:Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Mathematics#A_response_from_WMF about how to proceed. You may be interested in reasding the WMF staff contributions to that discussion. Notifying a Wikipedia

@George Ho: Yes, I was using the template {{u}} when mentioning their names. That template is sending them a notification. When I open an English Wikipedia article, I can see such notifications from Romanian Wikipedia for example, so they must have seen my notification too. I've seen they noticed my complaint, as they quickly reacted at the Administrator's noticeboard here: ro:Wikipedia:Afișierul administratorilor#Apel. —  Ark25  (talk) 12:44, 23 March 2017 (UTC)
