Guide to bolding

[edit]

if I did everything right then:

for indirect, bold if there are more links to an indirect lang and than to en.
for direct, bold if the lang has the most link to en of any language. Since indirect translation is generally inferior, also bold if 'en' is one of the top few most-connected languages.

Notable observations (tentative)

[edit]
Remember, this is only true if the numbers are actually correct.
  • En as a movement lingua franca seems strongly justified. Nearly all projects had strong links to en.
  • Direct strategy to en appears to be most-viable for most large-project languages
  • Smaller languages may need to supplement with indirect strategy. This is especially true for cases where most of a smaller project's members also speak a shared 'regional language' or 'world language'.
E.g. If 90% of Jawa editors also understand Huttese, and 90% of Huttese editors also understand Republic Basic, then the best way for speakers of Republic Basic to communicate with editors of the Jawa wikipedia is by recruiting editors from the Huttese Wikipedia. (example taken from Star Wars universe)
  • Esperanto (eo) users do appear to be quite 'internationally linked'. Nice reality check for both my math and their project.
