Old name taken by vandal

Hello. You have recently renamed my account from "Antero de Quintal" to "JMagalhães". When you renamed it, the old username was simply removed from the database (or whatever technical term you use). Today (july 5th, 22h36 UTC), a vandal registered an account with my old username to harass an user (diff). This same guy has been creating attack accounts @ pt.wiki all day long. However, the fact that now all my old signatures are linked to a vandal account is not a positive thing. Is there any way to fix this? JMagalhães (talk) 22:56, 5 July 2017 (UTC)

Hello, sorry to hear that, I think you should put a request here either to locked you previous user name/the current vandal account or another choice that you'd like to do, or I think you can ask any bot operator in your wiki to change your old signature with the new one (I did this thing many time by My bot in ar.wiki). --Alaa :)..! 23:33, 5 July 2017 (UTC)

The global block that you refer to is a soft block. That mean that you can login to your account and edit. The block only stop user that don't have an account.

There might be a local block on a wiki that you want to edit that is preventing you from edit even with your account. That block is nothing that we can do anything about. For instance the block on the English Wikipedia is a hard block and it blocks you even if you login to your account. These type of blocks you need to bring it up locally. Normally you can still edit your talk page to ask for an exemption from the block.

Getting started on Phabricator

As recently discussed within this group, we are ready to experiment with setting up a project and its related workboard on Phabricator, the platform used in the Wikimedia movement for project management, software bug reporting and feature requests. It will help us coordinate and cooperate better on projects that should require ambassadors' involvement.

Just letting you know about this as a few of these socks have also made edits on the Arabic Wikipedia. He seems to abandon any edits on ar.wiki once the en account has been discovered, though. I'm unsure of your all policies, but I thought it best to alert an admin/CU on your end. A significant portion of the en.wiki blocks are behavioral in nature, but he's one of the most obvious sockmasters we have. I DUCK blocked Yasseromar99 (talk • contribs • deleted contribs • logs • block user • block log • CentralAuth • AllContribs • checkuser • investigate) today without updating that SPI, but I just checked and he does appear to have recently edited on ar.wiki. A cross-wiki vandal you should probably know about

Hey, congrats on becoming a steward. As a rather dubious present, I wanted to point out a cross-wiki date vandal I've been chasing around for a while, User:Aliabbashiraqi79 (talk · contribs). en:Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Aliabbashiraqi79 has a few details, and this diff is how I explained the sockmaster previously to another Arabic Wikipedia admin. He's got an entry on the checkuser wiki, and you can see this list of his socks. He's generally not too difficult to identify, as his sock puppets return to the same articles and vandalize the birth date. For example: en:Bassim Abbas and wikidata:Q7278668. Most of his edits happen at English Wikipedia, Arabic Wikipedia, and Wikidata, though it sometimes spreads out to others. This guy is really annoying, and I usually report him to m:SRG. However, his vandalism tends to be a bit subtle, so I think he flies under the radar for a lot of cross-wiki anti-vandalism. I'm hoping that maybe if I keep bothering you Arabic Wikipedia guys, maybe it'll be easier for you to spot him, too. NinjaRobotPirate (talk) 03:35, 2 March 2018 (UTC)

Multilock

Hi! I think you don't know that we have a secret Special:Multilock where you can put all the usernames you want to lock and then all of them will be locked at the same time. But don't use that feature if you are not on IRC at the same time. Because otherwise the StewardBot on #wikimedia-stewards channel will quit because of flooding. If you are on IRC on that channel you can write either "@mlock" (bot is silenced for 10 seconds) or "@quiet", so it's silent until you write "@speak". Stryn (talk) 16:54, 2 March 2018 (UTC)

Hi User:علاء it's my pleasure seeing you as a newly elected steward. While as per my issue is that I volunteer in a wiki (Marathi (Mr) Wikipedia) which has 19,316 files uploaded in local wikipedia from which 11,661 dosent have copyright information/status/license on them. While most lack file information to determine where are these images taken from and mostly out of scope. While this Wikipedia dosent has fair use/dealing policy so there are no clear rules to deal with it. Please suggest what shall be done in such a situation. Shall all the images be cleared off?
