Ideas

- ML for auto description?
- Better ML for audio-to-text + language-estimation?
- Transfer upload attempts that need transcoding directly to IA, then back to the UploadWizard.
Challenges
[edit]- Need better tools to help summarize uploads for qucik review/curation. equivalent of thumbnailing images.
- A mis-framing of an old discussion about making uploads work, led to our not accepting the Internet Archive's offer to handle all transcoding.
- The impression that the community a) wouldn't want this or b) would notice or care if transcoding happened off platform led to the belief that contributors who have a proprietary-format file to upload should be turned away.
- A mobile tool made uploads easy, without similarly making upload-review easier to scale. This led to what felt like spam from people who didn't understand upload guidelines. The lack of a draft space to hold those uploads while they were processed, led to that being turned off. (for images too)
- An uncertain relationship w/ and development of the kaltura player has led to a limbo in video-player development. A number of community members including Brion worked on improvements that were not fast-tracked to production, but languished for some years. (some have been implemented in the past 1-2y)
