Shared values and principles include:
— Inclusive empowerment: everyone can participate in project work and governance. If something isn't working, fix it.
— Autonomous self-organization: communities set and revise their own policies, with decisions made at the most immediate local level of participation.
— Collaboration: we work towards collaborative outputs over individual ownership of work.
— Equity: we empower local communities to participate in global projects and in allocating resources.
— Free knowledge: We develop knowledge under free-and-open-source (FOSS) licenses for software and open licenses that are compatible with CC BY-SA for other digital objects, supporting all manner of reuse.
— Safety: we maintain a safe and welcoming environment, and help contributors in repressive regimes minimize their risk.
— Flexibility: we encourage experimentation; rules and policies exist to further our mission, where these conflict policies can be changed.
— Transparency: we work and communicate in public, on wikis and on similar servers using FOSS that allows interoperability.
— Efficiency: we aim for as few rules and as little overhead as possible, and for fast, low-friction participation.
— Multilingualism: communities work in their own languages, and we support translation among major movement languages.
