Competition
[edit]WikiGap Challenge Pakistan 2020 builds on last year’s event to increase the number and quality of articles, primarily biographies of Pakistani women on Wikipedia. Unlike last year however, this year’s event will be run on both the English Wikipedia and Urdu Wikipedia. The Challenge is being organised by the Swedish Ministry for Foreign Affairs through its Embassy in Islamabad as part of the global WikiGap campaign. Its local and international partners are the same as last year’s: UN Women, Digital Rights Foundation and Media Matters for Democracy. This Challenge is a public writing competition which employs the KISS point system to determine the winner.
Objectives
- To strengthen Wikipedia’s coverage of Pakistani women related articles.
- To narrow the gender gap in articles that exists on both the English and Urdu Wikipedias.

- Event dates: Thursday 5 November 2020 0:01PST to Monday 30 November 2020 23:59PST
- Venue: Online (every editor will contribute from their own space)
- Languages: English and Urdu

- Participants: This competition is open to editors from all over the world, irrespective of their age, sex, gender, orientation, religion, race, ethnicity or origin. All editors, irrespective of their language, must however, register their username on the English Wikimedia page here and Dashboard here.
- Training: To familiarise new editors with the requirements for the creation and editing of articles at least one webinar will be conducted before the start of the Challenge.
- Scoring system: Using the KISS point system, every editor will provide points for their own work on the main Challenge page. Judges will then verify these points and make a final decision regarding the winners.
- Prizes: The top 10 Pakistan resident editors will receive prizes.
- Judging: Every editor will count their own points. Members of the jury will recheck them to ensure they are in line with the point system. All new articles must be available until 10 December 2020. Decision of the judges is final.
Rules and Regulation
[edit]Editors are free to create and editor any article as long as it relates to Pakistani women. However, the following rules and regulations need to be kept in mind.
- Only participants registered in Wikimedia projects are allowed to participate in the Contest.
- Each participant takes part in the Competition with only one account which must be registered on the Challenge page and Dashboard.
- A new article must be written in Urdu or English from 5 to 30 November 2020 inclusive.
- The created article must have at least 150 words.
- Contest entries must not contain copyright infringement. Participants may be disqualified for massive copyright violations .
- The jury may disqualify a participant for violating the principle of "fair play", in particular for using botanicals, for not adding articles to the list within a reasonable time, for bulk uploading pre-prepared articles at any stage, as well as for any actions that hinder fair competition or introduce other participants misleading.
- When summing up the results, the quality and quantity of works created by the participant of the Competition are taken into account . Quality means the volume and a reasonable degree of illustration, completeness of disclosure, the degree of supporting materials with links to authoritative sources , design.
- For each article created that meets the requirements , the participant receives 1 point. The jury can mark the volume and quality (style of presentation, design, illustration, etc.) of the article with one or two additional points.
- Nomination "Outstanding Women of the World": For the creation of an article about a person already described in the Swedish Wikipedia , but not described in the Russian Wikipedia, points are awarded with a double coefficient. That is, for such an article, a contestant can receive from 2 to 6 points.
- When creating articles, you can use the vocabulary .
- An article should be remain online till at least 10 December 2020 otherwise no points are awarded to its editor.
Point System
[edit]Please calculate your own points using the following system. All points are cumulative.
- +0.5 point for every new category added to an article
- +0.5 point for every new WikiProject added to an article (old or new)
- +1 point for each image added to an article (new or old) (including your own photos).
- +1 point for each +1,000 bytes of added content to an article, in either language
- +1 point for each new source you add to an existing Wikipedia article
- +5 points for each new article created in either language
- +25 points for a Good Article in any language.
- +50 points for a Featured Article in any language.

Naming articles
[edit]Please ensure that the spelling of the individual's name is correct. If possible use an official source for it. Additionally, Syeda, Dr, Mrs, Ms, Justice, etc should not be used to create an article since they are not the individual's name but her title.
