User:JanEnEm/My experiences
For those who are interested in what I experienced when contributing to the TMF projects I created this article. Not in the least as a reference for myself ;=).
Community portals
[edit]The very first thing people need to do when contributing to a wiki is looking at the wiki's Community portal.
In a default MediaWiki installation, this is a single page reference named ' wikiname:Community portal'
and is refered to by a link in the navigation area of a MW page.
The various TMF projects altered them in different ways:
- MediaWiki: wikipedia:Community portl. Moved to the (collapsible) 'Interaction' menu from the Navigation panel!
- MetaWiki: Replaced by a series of articles, placed in the Navigation panel under the collapsible title 'Community'
Editor's behaviour
[edit]When starting to contribute to WP and other projects, I had to learn about the 'rules to follow'. By summarizing I hope to create myself a quick access to these pages. Here are (will be) some references to them.

Wikipedia (En)
[edit]About the language
[edit]I am not sure what language preference there is on the WP site: Us-En or Uk-En? (Or whatever other xx-En there might be ;=)
My involvements
[edit]Personal projects
[edit]As stated before, I tend to get involved in as many MediaWiki projects as can be, because I am convivnced of the power of community editing, be it through MW or any other open CMS project. MediaWiki however has had my attention starting somewhere in 2005 and still has today!
I maintain a MW site on the intranet of the (small) business I run and for my family documentation. On that site, I also experience with simple to slightly more complex template structures.
Commercial projects
[edit]I introduced MW on several occasions for customers, where I did the initial start up of MW, usually on a dedicated Ubuntu Linux server in a virtual environment. All these projects are intranet solutions. No commercial MW projects yet.
