User:Hogü-456/Thoughts on Free Knowledge

From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki

At this page I write down my thoughts about Free Knowledge and my thoughts about the mission of the Wikimedia Foundation. A often cited statement about the mission of the Wikimedia Foundation is the following:

„Imagine a world in which every single human being can freely share in the sum of all knowledge. That's our commitment. “

In the bylaws the mission is described as:

„The mission of the Wikimedia Foundation is to empower and engage people around the world to collect and develop educational content under a free license or in the public domain, and to disseminate it effectively and globally. “

This is from my point of view more realistic. From my point of view not all knowledge should be free. There is personal data about people that is important that it will be protected. In Germany and the European Economical Area there are detailed data processing rules and it is only allowed to process as much personal data as needed for an usecase.

Economical aspects

I think another important point when thinking about Free Knowledge are the economical effects of free sharing of knowledge.
