Introduction

History

Mexico City is the capital of Mexico. It is also one of the most important cities in Latin America and the world-- economically and culturally speaking. Its total extension is 7,815 km2 (20,232 square miles). Mexico City is the financial and political epicenter of Mexico, constituted by 16 Burroughs. It lies at 2,200 meters above sea level. Mexico City proper has 9 million inhabitants, and Greater Mexico City has 22 million. It was founded by the Mexica (Aztecs) in 1325 as the seat of the Aztec Empire. In 1521 the Mexica fell in battle to the Spanish Conquistadores and in 1535 it was established as the capital of the Nueva España [tk virreinato], serving as the seat of the administrative and economic power over the Spanish Empire, which extended in North and Central America, Asia and Oceania. In 1821, after the Mexican Independence War, the Spanish government ends and is replaced by the First Mexican Empire, lasting until 1823. In 1824 the Congress decides to reunite the Powers of the Union in one city, creating the Federal District (Mexico City)

Wikimedia México

Introduction

The Wikimedia Foundation announced the approval of the creation of the Wikimedia Mexico chapter in Wikimania 2011 in Haifa, Israel on August 3, 2011. It was formally established as a Nonprofit organization in February 2013

Potential allies and related communities

In the past, we have worked with several communities in the open software and open culture movements, local government and multiple media organizations. These and other potential allies can help us overcome the challenges of staff (paid and/or voluntary) and communications in both English and Spanish. We’re working towards further [tk] with the Mexico City government in matters of security and facilities for our guests.

Our candidate venues for this event are:

• José Vasconcelos Public Library--total capacity of 5000 people, auditorium for 500 and open spaces)
• Palacio de Minería (“Mining Palace”, former engineering school)--7 salons each with capacity for 400 people, open spaces

Leisure time

The Vasconcelos library and Palacio de Minería have both open spaces reserved for their users for leisure time. Alternatively, we’re considering the Soumaya Museum as an alternate venue.

Plane: The Benito Juárez International Airport in Mexico City (IATA: MEX) has 2 terminals with local and foreign flights available. Several nearby cities also have airports (namely, in Toluca, Pachuca, Puebla, Querétaro and Cuernavaca)

4. Certificates testifying as a crew member of the aircraft that arrives, or
5. Book sea, if a member of the crew of the vessel up to the Mexican port in international voyage. If the above by air crew to enroll in a national ship anchored in port, you must present the book sea, document certifying their enrollment, data from the boat and the Mexican port where this is located.
