Turkic Wikimedia Conference 2023/Survey results

From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki

This page contains the results of a survey of Turkic Wikimedia Conference 2023 participants after the conference in Istanbul in October 2023.

A total of 28 people participated in the survey, which is 31.1% of all conference participants.

Scholarship Process

[edit]

This year, the provision of scholarships for affiliation representatives was systematized and received an official face, where the process of electing/selecting delegates to the conference was delegated to the affiliations themselves. There were two pools of delegates:

  1. User Groups with Bylaws and a formal Board of Trustees can go through the same steps in selecting delegates as chapters. Both types of affiliation elected/selected delegates through their governing bodies (Board of Trustees).
  2. Communities without any affiliates (Chapters and User Groups) must elect their delegates through community consultations.

We also provided scholarships to those individuals who applied for the conference program and whose application was accepted by the program committee. These individuals made important contributions to the conference program.

Survey results:

Question Agree Disagree Neither agree nor disagree
Was it easy to understand the scholarship application process? 15 0 2
The scholarship application was easy to complete 14 0 2
I was informed of my application status clearly and in a timely manner 15 0 2

Event venue and environment

[edit]

The original plan was to hold the conference at Üsküdar University, with which Wikimedia UG Turkey has a partnership. But, unfortunately, due to regional issues, it was decided to change the conference's location, which finally took place in the Mercure Istanbul Altunizade Hotel.

89% of conference participants surveyed were satisfied with the environment, accessibility, and language support of the conference space.

Recommendations for the future:

  • Improve video quality.
  • Improve room lighting.
  • improve the technical infrastructure of the rooms.

Strengths:

  • The quality of the conference translation.
  • Catering.
  • The program was well-designed with two tracks.
