Reason | stagnant proposal with more opposition than support; outside of realistic WMF scope |
Details of the proposal | |
Project description | Document verifiable (no original research) and neutral facts about companies and products to help consumers make choices that reflect their economic values. The kind of information should be decided by the community and evolve over time, but here is my initial thinking. For each product, where is it produced, how many workers are there, where do they reside and how well are they paid. For each company, who owns it (other companies), where is it registered, what certifications has it won (e.g. fair-trade, fair-labor, B-certification, etc) by reputable organizations, what standards does it follow and what kind of rating/grade has it obtained. |
Is it a multilingual wiki? | One multilingual wiki |
Potential number of languages | Many languages. A company or product page should have a faithful translation into every language for which it has customers/consumers (hopefully all backed by the same semi-structured data). |

Discussion
[edit]- Oppose because this sounds like a project or user group that should take place within Wikipedia rather than as something seperate. Rubbish computer (Talk: Contribs) 16:24, 20 October 2019 (UTC)
- Support I was surprised in a good way to see that someone has suggested this already. I think it's a good way to quickly look up a company to see how well they treat their workers and the environment. If this isn't suitable as a Wikimedia project I'd love to see it as a separate website. Varoituskartio (talk) 19:50, 5 November 2019 (UTC)
- Strong oppose - Seems like promoting a company, it is against the TOU to advertise a company. This won’t even fit into a group project in Wikipedia. Arthurfan828 (talk) 13:05, 8 April 2020 (UTC)
- Strong support - it only can include neutral, objetive and standard based valorations. BoldLuis (talk) 00:34, 2 May 2020 (UTC)
- Oppose Seems to me that this is a proposal for an advertisement space. Economical facts of a website is better in the hands of the owner himself. Arep Ticous 08:41, 9 May 2020 (UTC)
- Strong oppose - Semms like an advertisement service, clearly not WikiMedia business. Miguu (talk) 00:36, 3 August 2020 (UTC)
- Support but internet platforms like Google and Apple doesn't seems to like such idea and have deplatformed a few similar tools, if Mediawiki is to create such tool then there are extra risk to be considered. C933103 (talk) 17:56, 15 June 2021 (UTC)
