If most speakers of the translated language are likely to live in an area with the same local currency, it's fine to replace the US dollar amount (more exactly: $ 1,208,719 ) with an equivalent in the local currency, e.g. "more than 900,000 Euro". The translation should not imply that $1.2 million is the entire amount of money ever donated to Wikimedia (it is just the sum of the amounts requested in the current proposals to the FDC).
