Adding to Wikidata

[edit]
Test yourself!
You should add statements to Wikidata items...
  1. as fast as you can. (click to expand or collapse)
INCORRECT! It's always a good idea to know what you're talking about. Researching an item before adding a statement to an item is a great idea.
  2. after obtaining permission from an administrator on Wikidata. (click to expand or collapse)
INCORRECT! Anyone can edit Wikidata. This means you do not need permission from anyone to edit. We do encourage you to practice editing before you start editing items.
  3. if you notice that something is missing, and you have a reliable source. (click to expand or collapse)
CORRECT! Usually when you notice that something is missing, you have done your research. If you have a source to back up your claim, add that statement.
  4. only manually, editing one item at a time. (click to expand or collapse)
INCORRECT! You can make automated, batch edits to Wikidata through some tools, software, and bots. Before making batch edits to Wikidata, however, it's a good idea to practice with manual edits to be sure you understand what you are doing.
