Template talk:WikipediaSister
Add topicWithout the text it is better, only the NAME is really required so it can be even more Spartan as far as I am concerned. Good job Ropers :) GerardM 23:42, 10 Jan 2005 (UTC)
Alt text
[edit]I see wikitext like
[http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/Main_Page http://commons.wikimedia.org/upload/4/4a/Wiktionary-logo-en-35px.png]
in this template, and the resulting HTML has stuff like
<a href="http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/Main_Page" class='external' title="http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/Main Page"><img src= "http://commons.wikimedia.org/upload/4/4a/Wiktionary-logo-en-35px.png" alt="Wiktionary-logo-en-35px.png" /></a>.
The alt text is inappropriate; it should be alt="". How can I make it so? I am unfamiliar with this apparently-undocumented style of creating clickable images in wikitext. —AlanBarrett 20:14, 13 Jan 2005 (UTC)
MediaWiki has long allowed you to simply type in the URL of any image on the Web and get the non-clickable image. Previously, I had enclosed that within a normal wikilink, like so:
[[:wikt:Main Page|http://commons.wikimedia.org/upload/4/4a/Wiktionary-logo-en-35px.png]]
And it would work. With the upgrade to MediaWiki 1.4b4, you now have to enclose these non-wiki image URLs in the external link syntax. I suppose this makes it harder for vandals to easily embed inappropriate images etc. by just typing in the URL. –Minh Nguy...n (talk, blog) 05:46, 16 Jan 2005 (UTC)
- Thanks. So, you don't know a way of controlling the alt text associated with such images? —AlanBarrett 19:15, 22 Jan 2005 (UTC)
- No, I'm afraid not. But the alternative is to embed an image the normal way, and have that image's page redirect to the project page. To me, that's a hack at best, and the URL would be a bit misleading. Maybe we should file a bug at MediaZilla asking the developers to come up with a solution. – Minh Nguy...n (talk, blog) 20:43, 5 Feb 2005 (UTC)

Reversion of CSS layout
[edit]I see that the layout of this template has been changed from the CSS version (which adapts to narrow screens by reducing the number of sister projects per row) back to a single table that always has four sister projects per row (and which sticks out past the right hand margin if your screen is narrower than about 660px). Would anybody object if I converted back to CSS with floats, while trying to keep the look of the present version? —AlanBarrett 12:44, 8 October 2005 (UTC)
On second thoughts, I think I'll just revert to the version of 4 March 2005. This template was previously language-neutral, but the version of 26 July 2005 added lots of English text. If people want an anglocentric version, I suggest doing it on a new page, such as Template:WikipediaSister/en. —AlanBarrett 13:29, 8 October 2005 (UTC)
