The republics of Azerbaijan, Armenia and Georgia are in the South Caucasus (Transcaucasia), the republics of Dagestan, Kalmuk, Karachay-Cherkessia, Kabardino-Balkar, Ingush, North Ossetia and Chechnya in the North Caucasus (Kafkasönü), which are affiliated with the Russian Federation.
