Urdu Wikipedia
[edit]Urdu Wikipedia was started in 2004 and we have 150,138 articles so far (as far of March 2020). Wikipedians from Pakistan and India mostly contribute to Urdu Wikipedia. We have recently launched our social media handles for the betterment of Urdu Wikipedia.

[edit]- Wikimedia Statistics can be difficult to interpret. What is your impression, how many steady contributors do you have?
- Are your contributors mostly native speakers?
- Where do your contributors live (regions/country)?
- In general, Pakistan. The Urdu Wikipedia is run by admins and contributors most of whom are based in Pakistan, while many Pakistani users located abroad (mainly traced from the United Kingdom, United States, Canada, Middle East and Australia) have also played a constructive role in the growth and development of the encyclopedia. Being a largely spoken language in India, Urdu-fluent users from this part of the globe have a potential frequency and outreach as well. Ajay.raja 16:49, 20 March 2010 (UTC)
- Among Indian administrators of Urdu Wikipedia, are Aafi and Yethrosh, as of November 2024.

- Up to date, a Wikipedia meetup has been hosted in Karachi while Hyderabad has held what could be one of the first "Simple English Wikimeetups." In the Karachi Wikimeetup, one of the main agendas was the promotion and use of Urdu Wikipedia. Ajay.raja 16:49, 20 March 2010 (UTC)

Other Wikipedias
[edit]- Do you have special contacts with other Wikipedias (maybe in related languages)?
- The Western Punjabi Wikipedia (pnb), Sindhi Wikipedia (sd), Pashto Wikipedia (ps) and Kashmiri Wikipedia (ks) all have active native contributors from Pakistan (amongst the other respective countries), most of whom tend to have a certain knowledge of or are completely fluent in Urdu. Organization and support

- Pakistan does not have an established Wikimedia chapter though it is being proposed. The Urdu language would be significant and important in relation to the chapter. Ajay.raja 16:49, 20 March 2010 (UTC)
