Novial
[edit]Questionnaire
[edit]Contributors
[edit]- Wikimedia Statistics can be difficult to interpret. What is your impression, how many steady contributors do you have?
- Zero, at present. During the years 2006-2011 there were about 4-5 regular contributors, but nowadays the project is virtually dead. IJzeren Jan (talk) 14:25, 4 January 2015 (UTC)
- Are your contributors mostly native speakers?
- Being a constructed language, Novial has no native speakers. All contributors are people who either have learned it to some degree or don't know the language at all. IJzeren Jan (talk) 14:25, 4 January 2015 (UTC)
- Where do your contributors live (regions/country)?
- No idea. IJzeren Jan (talk) 14:25, 4 January 2015 (UTC)
- How common is it that your contributors meet in real life?
- No idea, but probably it has never happened. IJzeren Jan (talk) 14:25, 4 January 2015 (UTC)
Other Wikipedias
[edit]- Do you have special contacts with other Wikipedias (maybe in related languages)?
- Do you translate a lot from other Wikipedias? Which ones?
- When writing an article, I use several Wikipedia editions as sources (mostly English, Dutch, German, Russian, Polish). Can't speak for others. IJzeren Jan (talk) 14:25, 4 January 2015 (UTC)
Organization and support
[edit]- Is there a Wikimedia chapter in your country? How does your language relate to it?
- Not applicable, since Novial is an international auxiliary language. IJzeren Jan (talk) 14:25, 4 January 2015 (UTC)
- Are there work groups in other organizations about Wikipedia?
Your Wikipedia and the linguistic community
[edit]- Is there a language institution for your language, like an Academy, or a club of people interested in your language? Do you have contact with them?
- There are a few websites dedicated to Novial, but the only real authority are the works of prof. Jespersen, the author of the language. IJzeren Jan (talk) 14:25, 4 January 2015 (UTC)
- Who (else) supports you?
- Nobody. IJzeren Jan (talk) 14:25, 4 January 2015 (UTC)
- What does the public outreach for your edition look like? Do you have flyers, give lectures, training etc.?
- Do you get feedback from readers?
- What other encyclopedias exist in your language?
Content
[edit]- Does your edition concentrate on certain topics, like your region and language, or Latin Wikipedia on Roman history and Christianity?
- The most elaborate articles are about mathematics, biology and martial arts. IJzeren Jan (talk) 14:25, 4 January 2015 (UTC)
- Did your edition enjoy text donations, for example from older encyclopedias?
Language
[edit]- Is there a generally accepted norm about your language (spelling, dictionary, pronunciation)?
- The standard has been established Jespersen's grammar from 1928 and dictionary from 1930. Later revisions by others exist, but are rarely used. IJzeren Jan (talk) 14:25, 4 January 2015 (UTC)
- How do you deal with different spellings, dialects etc. (like B.E. lift and A.E. elevator)?
- This is not really an issue in the case of Novial. More interesting is the question how we deal with vocabulary that is lacking. The project has a few pages with newly coined vocabulary. IJzeren Jan (talk) 14:25, 4 January 2015 (UTC)
