Karakalpak Wikipedia

[edit]

Questionnaire

[edit]

Contributors

[edit]
  • Wikimedia Statistics can be difficult to interpret. What is your impression, how many steady contributors do you have?
  1. Although there are given 40 users as active, in my observation there are 4 or 5 users I know (including Azizbek, Ajiniyaz, Bekan, Farhad) actively contribute to Kaawiki. And I'm really interested how it will seem in 5 or 10 years:) Inosham 22:55, 10 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
  • Are your contributors mostly native speakers?
  1. Most of them. At first, we tried to cover users who can write in Karakalpak accurately. However, after realizing that non-Karakalpak users can assist (sometimes even more) better rather than native speakers, we now welcome any users in our local Wikipedia. Inosham 22:55, 10 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
  • Where do your contributors live (regions/country)?
  1. Majority live in Uzbekistan, but some Karakalpaks are also contributing who temporarily live in foreign countries (i.e. I am in the UK at the moment) Inosham 22:55, 10 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
  • How common is it that your contributors meet in real life?
  1. I am afraid that it isn't common to meet one another in-person. Nevertheless, we used to meet online for several times last year. And now telegram is an only source we keep in touch frequently. Inosham 22:55, 10 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Other Wikipedias

[edit]
  • Do you have special contacts with other Wikipedias (maybe in related languages)?
  1. Sure! Uzbek Wikip(m)edians are whom I can consider as supporters and/or close colleagues in Wikisphere. Inosham 22:55, 10 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
  • Do you translate a lot from other Wikipedias? Which ones?
  1. For me, Uzbek and English are more understandable and easy to translate. As far as I know, other Karakalpak users also translate from Kazakh, Russian and Turkish as well. Inosham 22:55, 10 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Organization and support

[edit]
  • Is there a Wikimedia chapter in your country? How does your language relate to it?
  1. Unfortunately, no. I hope we will have our local user group/chapter in the long run. Inosham 22:55, 10 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
  • Are there work groups in other organizations about Wikipedia?
  1. I am planning to work on it when I come back to my homeland. Inosham 22:55, 10 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Your Wikipedia and the linguistic community

[edit]
  • Is there a language institution for your language, like an Academy, or a club of people interested in your language? Do you have contact with them?
  • Who (else) supports you?
  • What does the public outreach for your edition look like? Do you have flyers, give lectures, training etc.?
  • Do you get feedback from readers?
  1. Sure, we get feedback/interesting queries regarding Wikipedia on our telegram group. Inosham 22:55, 10 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
  • What other encyclopedias exist in your language?

Content

[edit]
  • Does your edition concentrate on certain topics, like your region and language, or Latin Wikipedia on Roman history and Christianity?
  • Did your edition enjoy text donations, for example from older encyclopedias?

Language

[edit]
  • Is there a generally accepted norm about your language (spelling, dictionary, pronunciation)?
  • How do you deal with different spellings, dialects etc. (like B.E. lift and A.E. elevator)?
