Talk:Wikipedia 20th celebration the way I & my family feels
Add topicHello, All these activities in this celebration are fine . But, no celebration in Wikipedia is complete without having the core job of 'writing articles' . May be we can write articles on a certain theme . --Hellohappy (talk) 09:31, 6 January 2021 (UTC)
- @Hellohappy (talk) Thank you for your kind words and visiting our event page, you are absolutely correct "no celebration in Wikipedia is complete without having the core job of 'writing articles'", actually several events are happening across the globe related to edit-a-athon of writing articles, so, I decided to organize an event in a more creative way, let's all be creative and celebrate Wikipedia20 birthday, "the way I and my family feels". Still, if you want to write any article on any topic, do feel to go ahead and let us know, we will include it as part of our celebration. Namaste, Rajeeb (talk) 11:45, 7 January 2021 (UTC)
Bad grammar and lack of clarity: "the way I and my family feels"
[edit]The theme suffers from extremely poor grammar (in both British and American English):
- The verb should be first-person plural: [We] "feel"
- "My family" should precede "I": "my family and I"
"The way my family and I feel" is correct grammar.
Even with corrected grammar, the theme suffers from lack of clarity. The verb "feel" has a different meaning when it doesn't have an object phrase ("feel about"). I infer that the intent is not to get a snapshot of the emotional health of one's family on the occasion of the WP anniversary but rather to learn "how they feel about" the anniversary or possibly "what they think about" it. Note that the former (feeling about) implies a certain degree of binary judgmentalism (either good or bad) whereas the latter (thinking about) is more open ended.
Possible alternatives:
- Wikipedia's 20th Anniversary: How my family and I feel about it. (Still awkward)
- How my family and I feel about Wikipedia's 20th anniversary. (Still somewhat awkward)
- My family's thoughts on the occasion of Wikipedia's 20th anniversary. (Much better)
- Thoughts on the occasion of Wikipedia's 20th anniversary.
