Domain names?

[edit]

Just what domain names do they need to register to the tune of $1000 in one quarter? Domain registrations are as low as $8/year with some registrars, and Wikimedia seems to show more of the cluefulness of techies than the cluelessness of marketroids in its use of names, using a large number of logical subdomains (e.g., en.wikipedia.org) rather than thinking they need to register a different domain name for every subsite, subproject, slogan, buzzword, and so on. See Domain names for more information. The amount is due to many renewals this trimester. Anthere 10:05, 20 August 2005 (UTC)Reply

I think the registration of trademarks are included in this section as well. Angela 10:30, 21 August 2005 (UTC)Reply

Uncategorized fees?

[edit]

Certain costs seem a bit untidily large to me, as similar sites to this can be run for signifigantly less funds, and the "uncategorised fee" is in the pricing neighborhood of certain services that I do not believe we should pay for, as users of a free information website... although it is my belief that those services should also be free, largely.

I do believe that should this service cease, David Thau or any number of other early world wide web providers of free communication exchange could either host the site or suggest other hosts.

More transparency and information

This budget is cruelly missing more details. It only gives a rough estimation. What, why, who, when, how much ? Those are the answers that should be present in any budget/accounts report. Dake 19:31, 21 August 2005 (UTC)

You may confuse what a budget is and what a final report is. The budget is done before spending any money. It is an estimate of what we will have to spend. So, when we give a certain amount to be expected to spend, we mean we estimate that during the next trimester, we will have to spend such a budget. For example, we have some domain names renewal to do this trimester. We do not need to know exactly how much will be necessary, but given the average amount for each domain name and the number to renew, we know we will need 1000 dollars. It will be this trimester, but we have no idea if it will be done on the 15th of september, or the 18th. "Who" are "those" with the right to use the credit card. For most expenses, it will be Jimbo. For travel costs, it can be directly Angela or myself. How much is precisely what we try to estimate. The interest of a budget is mostly to be able to know how much we need to be able to function properly. This is not an account report. Anthere 04:26, 22 August 2005 (UTC)Reply

That's a good answer. But can you tell me where to find the "final report." I.e. if I were to donate, can I look at exactly how you've spent donated money in the past? E.g. Are you traveling on economy? or first class? are you staying at the four seasons or motel 6? are your hardware purchases at the most competitive rates?--Muchosucko 01:44, 23 August 2005 (UTC)Reply

Sums

[edit]

Hola.. Hello..
There is problems with the Q2..

I quote the asterisks:

  • *$2900 for rent, $440 for supplies, $140 for cell phone, $290 for file cabinet, $20 for shipping
  • **$350 for Corp/legal fees, $210 for card service fees, $70 for bank fees, and $490 for uncategorized

&

  • Office expen* $2,500.00 2.78%
  • Misc** $1,000.00 1.11%

For me..
2,900 + 440 + 140 + 290 + 20 = 3,790 & not 2,500..
350 + 210 + 70 + 490 = 1,120 & not 1,000..

Are the $2,500 & the $1,000 estimations too?
Why don't do some sort of summary of the effectives purchases when the quarter ends?
Excuse me if I'm wrong, but it misses some explanations here.
