Talk:Wikimedia Summit 2022/Participants' list
Add topicNumber of participants
[edit]Distribution aside, I want to say that I appreciate the work made to reduce the number of in-person participants. It's important, if nothing else, to reduce our carbon impact. Nemo 08:14, 14 May 2022 (UTC)
Selection
[edit]Hello. Given that the Wikimedia Summit is an event organized by Wikimedia Foundation dedicated to the affiliates and counting that for the good of the planet and for the safety of all at this time, now an online presence is preferred, as wikimedian and affiliate leader, I found unclear some points about the equity in this decision. For example, historically user groups (regardless of whether they were also non-profits associations in their countries, and consequently had an ED) were always able to sent only one representatives in any of the Wikimedia conferences. As now I see someone can send two, is this rule changed during the pandemic break (and waiting for the "movement charter [to] eventually outlines equitable rules and processes for participation")? Despite the declaration of a selection "without a heavy skew towards Western Europe and North America", I can see all the West European chapters. It was taken into account that redimensioning the number of the chapter's representatives from 2 to 1 would give the opportunity to widen the diversity of the audience, giving the small affiliates - some of which have never participated - the opportunity to be present in an event which is made for them too? 14 of the chapter's second sit would have allowed the presence of 14 more user groups, for example. Thank you in advance for the response. --Camelia (talk) 15:10, 15 May 2022 (UTC)
- Hi Camelia.boban. FYI I opened a similar section here: Talk:Wikimedia_Summit_2022#Questions_about_the_participants_list (I figured that page would have more watchers). — Rhododendrites talk \\ 15:30, 15 May 2022 (UTC)
