We ask that you not make any nominations on the talk page. It would be good to keep an element of surprise and make sure the person celebrated wants the recognition and gets to have the spotlight on them for some time. Instead, if you know an amazing Wikimedian, who you would like to celebrate, use the nomination box. NSzafran-WMF (talk) 20:25, 27 February 2023 (UTC)Reply

Person centered celebration

[edit]

I think it is not good to celebrate specific persons in a detailed blog post. I dont like person centered celebrations. Instead I like the celebration of specific projects with a focus on facts about the project and with only a few adjectives. In the past and also at the moment there are dictatorships with a cult of personality. This is from my point of view a bad thing and a reason why I think it is not good to celebrate specific persons. About the word 'Mea Hanohano'

[edit]

I think it's a beautiful word. I'm Japanese. I can read English to a certain extent, so I sometimes translate Metawiki.

Hawaiian expressions are wonderful, but for us, they are not very close. English is difficult for me. Furthermore, please understand that it is difficult to translate a foreign language that is popular and attractive to English-speaking people. If you came up with the original sentence, please help us by imagining the difference in basic knowledge between English-speaking people and people of other languages, and whether this word would be easily accepted in South America, Eastern Europe, etc.

Of course, we would be happy to directly transcribe Hawaiian names of people, things, and places. Kizhiya(WJPUG) (talk) 05:32, 24 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
