Our problems and needs
[edit]- Wikimedia Ukraine needs more volunteers to do chapter work (to work on chapters)
- Shared knowledge (North Macedonia) - lack of volunteers, many people would like just to engage in online activites (editing)
- Foundation is not in favor to have many paid staff members
- Kazak group needs help with a tool, which helps with changing a text from one script to another, as the guy, who was maintaining it is not available and they are in pressure of time (by their government)
- Is it possible to find funds for paid edits?
- Answer: WMF would not grant it, due to possible conflicts in the community, but e.g. Google was paying interpreters to translate articles between languages, sometimes GLAM/educational instutions pays their personnel to contribute etc.
- We need to help newbies to overcome troubles and demovitvation during their first minutes/hours/days on wiki - the clue might be paid group of mentors, who can respond immediately
- Juan: the problem is the self-presentation of CEE, which is kind of passive, we need to work on that, that we present our activities proudly and work on common problems actively without a push
- no funding for edit-a-thons, wiki loves * (per the change of WMF grant policy not to support such activities)
- no money for travel costs - strenghtening community, cooperation, boosting new groups
- NC license of files, commons 2 for images under ND license, because many parties do not want to release under NC, but they can release under ND
- legal problems, different laws in different countries, geoblocking
- no freedom of panorama in Italy
- Turkish Wikipedia - User:Sakhalinio - Excel list of Wikidata QID + city population, need to add population statement (with year and source) to wikidata (~1000 statements)
- Turkish Wikipedia - User:Sakhalinio - Excel list of monuments with official monument ID (~15000 rows) - merge with existing Wikidata items (which might or might not have a monument ID), then create an item the ones not on Wikidata
