Scholarship team response

This grant did raise some significant challenges all centred around the funding available. When the scholarship process was put together we estimated that 20-30 people per affiliate at $30 for data, $30 for Headphone/camera which gave us the approximate $2000 per affiliate. Even at that rate the Scholarship budget we had was not going to be sufficient if every affiliate applied, we assumed that most affiliates would not see any significant need to apply. One of the issues is that with one bucket of funds its generally accepted that individuals only get to receive one portion. This created a dilemma we need to look at in the future where over lap between affiliates causes potential for people to get multiple portions. The scholarship team takes on board your recommendation "WMF to oversee individual scholarships for Wikimania in the future and to not repeat this process going forward" we hope you will be willing to join discussions on the Wikimania 2022 virtual scholarship process when the COT 2022 commences.
