Add topicInternationalization (redubbing)
[edit]Under Internationalization I think it would be good to somehow add a link to c:Help:AI video dubbing which is how the first videos by Terra X in English have been created. I think the best scalable way to improve this approach would be to work on the SoniTranslate issues named there to improve the quality and to work on some Web UI on toolforge for creating many transcripts and redubs (and maybe also for getting these checked).
It's a complementary approach to encouraging other countries' public broadcast entities to release their media products under CCBY so they can reach a wider audience and be more useful. Once English-language TerraX (and others) videos are widely used, this may facilitate people in other countries such as media organization people to think about publishing their media under CCBY (the English-language videos here are largely not by media organizations). - Also see Community Wishlist/Wishes/Suggest media set in Wikidata items for their Wikipedia articles. It's important that the qualifier for language is set for these videos in Wikidata. Prototyperspective (talk) 13:26, 5 November 2024 (UTC)
Great idea, more languages sounds promising
[edit]Would love to see some of this automatically translated across languages, or presented in a way that lets reusers see which language subtitles/dubs exist and decide whether to use it as is or add translations. –SJ talk 18:12, 18 March 2025 (UTC)
- Would appreciate if more people got involved in that and I wouldn't be the only contributor anymore who translates these to English. Maybe you could clarify a bit what you mean: people can already see which subtitles exist. Redubbed versions are linked in the other version field of the file description. Showing other language redubs that are in that field of the File information template within the video would be a great thing if that's what you mean and Community Wishlist/Wishes/A tool for auto-transcription to speed up the creation of TimedTexts subtitles for videos on Commons is related to that as is Community_Wishlist/Wishes/Multiple audio tracks for the same video. I may create another wish linked from these more specific to redubbing / seeing other available languages if there's no support for multiple audio channels or similar.
